In the position of Administrative Assistant, I ensured office runs efficiently, provided administrative support and interfaced with all levels of corporate personnel.

I was trained for Receptionist and Administrative Assistant duties. After three months, assigned for the role of Administrative Assistant with supervision of our reception area (with two receptionists).

These are the main duties of Administrative Assistant position (in Brampton office):
• Assist with written and electronic correspondence and reports, as required
• Order and maintain staff name plates, business cards, access cards, parking permits, telephone extensions and long distance codes
• Back-up support for reception, ensure that telephone calls are answered in a professional manner, clients/visitors are greeted warmly, mail and faxes are distributed efficiently, and mail and packages are ready on time for courier pick up
• Ensuring that photocopiers, faxes, and telephones are properly maintained
• Assure that office supplies are maintained at optimum levels and order supplies when required
• Manage scheduling of telephone and access systems
• Organize general office: boardroom, copier room and kitchen including stocking, clean up and coffee machine maintenance
• Coordinate and prepare moving of storage area office
• Maintain record management as per GC RMMS
• Move and organize offsite storage
• Carry out variety of projects for all departments: Executive, Financial, Human Resources, and Commercial Lines, as required
• Proof reed for accuracy and process invoices for payment
• Relieve of reception during absence

It was my first position after college. I loved all aspects of this versatile and team building position.

After our company moved to Oakville and settled down, I resigned.

This is a great place to work so long as you are a Male and hold an Account Executive position.  If you meet those two requirements you are “god” and can get away with murder, your account managers and team processors are held responsible for your errors.

Staff are over worked and under paid.  Position changes, years of service and licensing are not taken into account when it comes to raises.  There are staff members who hold a licence, having worked there for 5+ Years and have never received a raise—making 30k/year.  The squeaky wheel gets the oil here.

Several times licence advancement was brought up, however, it was deemed by Management a Level 2 licence was not required to preform my position as a marketer or account manager.  (You will note it is listed as a requirement on their job postings).  Great Employees are let go as they hold on to individuals who would prefer to collect a paycheque for gossiping about the halls.  Employees are not replaced when let go or while on leave, they simply stack the role onto someone else’s full plate.

Dare not take Vacation time. Despite having a team of individuals available to cover your book of business, everything will left for your return.  This includes urgent client requests.  No overtime to get caught up will be provided.

You get commission off your personal policies HOWEVER Personal lines will not send you pink cards- you have to print your own.  Basically if you work here and have your insurance here your service is terrible.

Social committee does their best to make the work environment enjoyable with the time and resources they have.

I was initially advised that the role would include mentorship, structured support in learning the position, and commission-based compensation. It is important for prospective employees to clarify compensation details and ensure they are accurately reflected in writing, particularly when commission or incentive pay is discussed.
Based on my experience at HUB on Vancouver Island, I would encourage candidates to carefully assess management structure and workplace practices. There appear to be inconsistencies in leadership approach and adherence to best practices, which can impact team morale and retention. Several employees have expressed concerns regarding high turnover and management effectiveness.
Career growth opportunities may be limited for experienced professionals, as advancement does not always appear to align with tenure or prior industry experience. Instead, additional responsibilities may be assigned without corresponding increases in compensation or formal progression.
This role may be better suited to individuals early in their careers or those in a dual-income household who are comfortable with a more entry-level compensation structure while building experience.
Prospective employees are encouraged to speak directly with current or former staff in their local office to gain a clearer understanding of day-to-day expectations and workplace culture.

I've been at HUB for several years and would highly recommend this company.  I have found my career has grown tremendously over the years and there is a lot of opportunity within the company.  

The work environment is team oriented with some great, knowledgeable and fun people to work with.  I think I have one of the best teams, we support each other and collaborate on projects and there are always new and fun challenges to tackle.  

I've always felt comfortable around management, they'll provide great insight into the business and guide you through your career.  Management is also very thoughtful towards our colleagues, thinking of ways to improve company culture and everyone's work experience.  

HUB is also a rapidly growing company.  In the time I've been here we've grown from the 10th largest to the 5th largest broker in the world. This creates opportunity for everyone in the company. 

In terms of work-life balance, we're constantly encouraged to take time for ourselves, to rejuvenate and do the things we love.  

I can't say enough good things about this company, I believe that's why myself and so many others are still here for so many years.  Whether you're just starting your career or are looking for a change, I believe HUB is a great company where you will see growth in your career and as an individual.  



If I could give 0 stars I would. 
There isn’t a single positive thing I can say about this place. 
Unprofessional , no work life balance and nothing to show for it. Notoriously the lowest paying brokerage everywhere despite having competition on every block. When injustices are mentioned so that hopefully you may come up with a resolution , you become the problem for speaking up. The squeaky wheel doesn’t get the oil in this company , you get the boot instead. Well actually, you won’t get fired they’ll just push you to your limits till you decide to leave the toxic environment that it is. Management has favourites and they make that very clear. They set you up for failure. I truly believe in trying to leave something or somewhere better than you found it but, that is nearly impossible for this company as they do not want to hear any feedback. Good luck even getting an exit interview/survey. It all sounds good on paper , until you start working and you realize you’ve probably made the biggest mistake you could. 
My advice? Invest your time somewhere, where it will be valued and where you will be valued as an employee. Nothing about that is HUB. Run don’t walk if you value yourself and your mental health. 

This is a great place to work, and there are lots of awesome people. Hub is the only brokerage in town that seems to have employees with 10+, 20+, 30+ years with the company. It is a very fast paced job, and depending on your department, you typically have a very large workload. Insurance is known to have a high turnover rate, so there are periods of time where staffing is an issue, but then a wave of new hires will come along and join the team. Benefits are a little expensive, but good coverage. They aren't the best paying brokerage in town, but if you come with experience, you will get a good offer. New hires without a license however, don't get a very great starting wage and it's difficult to move up from that and stay within the same department. Some of my coworkers in my branch and other branches stay 1-2 hours overtime almost every single night to get some of their work done, and they don't receive extra pay for it. The company will allow those employees to use that time to extend a lunch hour if they have an appointment, etc, but you definitely wouldn't be able to combine those hours to take a whole day off, or extend your lunch hour everyday, etc. 

In my time here I've noticed extraordinary wait times of 1+ hour on average, sometimes as high as 3.5 hours, and instead of doing anything about it, management blames it on SOME workers not taking calls when they should. I was told hour plus wait times was not normal when I started, but almost a year in and its just as bad as when I started, but management still tries to say it's not normal. This job is soul crushing. I spend my day listening to people complain about the same thing all day knowing I can do nothing about it. The fact my job even exists is mind blowing. We already have machines that transfer calls like I do, except they will also tell people to stay on the hold, or offer them an automated callback. We don't have enough staff and the end of the day frequently has 10ish people in at least 1 que that never got answered but are still expected to wait or go online to book an appointment. I dont know why this position exists. I received 0 training since day 1 and know nothing about the company besides how long the wait times are. Any company with a business model of "payments can get through right away but for anything else you have to wait an hour+ while the calls will randomly drop" is a company I would never spend money at or work at, and is only a matter of time until something breaks in the company

This is my opinion based on my experience as a manager with Hub TOS. 

Manager position is more suited for a Type A personality that’s not afraid to step on some toes, put in lots of extra hours, can handle being micromanaged and likes to micromanage others. 

Not suited for someone looking for work life balance in a collaborative fun environment that promotes personal growth. 

There is quite a bit of data entry redundancies for tracking sales, quotes and dispatches. There’s checklists to help keep track of all the checklists that you need to complete.  Almost everything needs to be tracked manually. 

I found upper management to be negative and pessimistic. I was asked to blind cc, tell my team how “pathetic” they were doing. If an employee had something important come up that conflicted with business needs it was “Not my problem”.  I felt that they we’re not transparent and we’re always working an angle. 

Personally I would not recommend Hub TOS if you’re looking to join in a leadership role.  

Could be a good fit for a career driven individual looking to gain some experience as an agent.

I've worked at HUB for many years and it's a fast-paced and friendly environment. Teams collaborate and internal transfers and promotions are encouraged and supported. I personally have advanced and seen many others advance.  It doesn't happen without working for it though - invest in your own development, skills and expertise.

Management cares about your thoughts and opinions - you're encouraged to share them if you want to see change. Honest feedback is valued from all employees and an annual survey is sent out.  Feedback between surveys is also encouraged and appreciated.

HUB is a good fit for employees who take initiative and care about the quality of their work.  There's lots of opportunity for advancement for those willing to put in the time and effort into their growth and development.  You're also supported in staying in the same role and becoming an expert if that's what you want.

There is no perfect place to work but HUB has heart, is transparent and cares for their employees.  It is a busy workplace for sure but the people are good people.  You'll have great coworkers and a manager and management team that cares.
