I have been employed at Hearthstone by the Lake for almost 10 years!! When I joined the team, I had no idea that my little part-time job would turn into a full-time supervisory role that I'm very proud of.  Working with seniors is truly my calling and Hearthstone has helped me discover this. I enjoy the hours (7-3 in my case), the responsibility, the multitasking, the challenges, and the relationships I have built with my co-workers, residents, and their families. I work with great people, with career longevity like myself. Just like any job there's pros and cons, but I wouldn't have stuck around this long if I wasn't enjoying what I do.

Working at Hearthstone by the Lake was one of the best experiences in my life. The staff is very friendly and inclusive and the homeowners for the most part are in a decent mood. One of the biggest hurdles about working here however is having patience and tough skin with staff and clients. The job itself is is stressful on staff so you need to be able to read when people are having good and bad days. Additionally, 99.9% of the clients you work with have Dementia so one day they may be your best friend and the next they may be calling you names. One of the greatest things about working here however is that the name calling gives you a tougher skin to tackle other aspects of your life. I would not recommend this job if you run on a short fuse but if you have patience and love + dedication to what you do, it will be the greatest thing to happen to you.

I had no interest in spending more than a year in this establishment.

Management is very poorly organized and do not like change.
More often than not, they are in panic mode because of residents' feedback and complaint.

This was a couple years ago, so I'm not sure how much they've improved.
The people though, although not very well versed with managing this place, are spectacular human beings, super pleasant, and great to work with.

I left because there was no room for me to grow.

A cook's job at this place is very cushy, simple menus, small restaurant, repetition cooking, perfect for someone looking for a long term position to retire with.

I can say that the most enjoyable part of my job is that I can help the residents by just being there talking & listening to them. I am treating them like a real family and they do treat me the same way. It is indeed a fulfilling job for me because I am not just working but I am enjoying every single day with them. There are times that it is tiring when it's busy but at the end of the day, I'm still happy because I was able to help them feel they are not alone, encouraged them to go on with life no matter what.It is a great pleasure for me to work in this facility.

Team work and the Management are awesome and mostly the Residents are so lovely and kind and friendly

When there’s a Ccac (PSW) from 
 outside not helping you .

I love to give care to a palliative resident

My years@ YDC was a great learning experience, belonging to a team that excelled on every level from food services to front line staff.  Each and every employee made each and every day special for our young clients. It was always a great feeling of satisfaction each and every day with a whole team of knowing we all made a difference in all departments. YDC made me a stronger team member. 25 years later we are still connected.

Was enjoyable to work at, learned to keep patience under check and be very diplomatic. Management was pretty good but could really improve and be more in touch with employee's needs. In general the workplace culture was very good. The hardest part of the job was trying to juggle between home owners quirks and management misunderstanding of situations. In general very enjoyable working with most home owners and staff.

first thing in the morning, assisting clients with personal hygiene and then make breakfast. residents are respectful and easy to please. management is always there to assist you with any difficulties at your job and very flexible with scheduling. working with seniors can be stressful but it seems to be manageable working at this place. very helpful co-workers and pleasant environment.

My interview was with General Manager and owner.
The GM very personable.
Hearthstone is an amazing place to work.
We are here to help make the residents day better in any way we can.
Talking with them, taking them for walks.
Letting the Residents know you care for them and about them.

I feel safest at work with all the safety precautions.  There is a team approach where everyone works together and management leads the way.  There is a very active health and safety committee and all staff have been able to get the Pfizer vaccine.  The residents are happy and appreciate the work we do.
