Tree planting is the hardest job you will ever have. The conditions are often tough, it is physically and mentally taxing, and you are out there on your own. The management does not provide much (if any) support to new workers (which comprise over half the camp; only about 1/4 or less of planters come back the next season, for a reason). 
In those terms, it may not be much different from other Ontario companies. The work is tough, the pay really depends on how hard you work. 
However, the management is awful. Everything is disorganized, and you often end up with days where you run out of trees early, the trees are frozen, etc, which can make it really hard to make money. The company also barely respects your human working rights, and may ask you to still go to the block if you are sick, injured, etc, where you will not make a single dollar if you are not physically planting trees (no day rate for injured/sick workers, and essentially no sick days either). 

If you are new, and can somehow get a job out west in Saskatchewan, Alberta, or BC - do it! If you have to plant in Ontario though, this is probably not the worst company around. But definitely not the best. 

If you are an experience planter, don't even consider this company.

This work provides a space to live with your coworkers in tents in remote landscapes. Having to live with them ensures you live a life. More lived in the sense of really getting to know people in feeling closer to others than you would in any other setting of job. That is the bonus, having people close to you after hours only, though you are made to work crazy hours doing more work than ever needed. Tiring, very tiring and over worked for the pay. They also do not take injury seriously and will keep trying to get you to work when injured. They do not consider your needs though you do feel tough after working for them because your body will get very fit. Being around other humans can be fun though you don't get much time off work ever to actually talk much with them and notice the amount of work you're doing is far too much. Stay away from bad influencer that are just trying to deal with pain in bad ways. Attempt to relax, enjoy the nature and find good people that have your best interests in mind.

This job is very tough and requires a healthy and supportive workplace, and yet the opposite often occurred. Camp supervisors and crew bosses broke SO many health and safety rules. Not a safe work place or environment, toxic behaviour and recklessness were common and unchecked. The company was not financially stable, with poor organization and little to no training this caused contracts to be failed often. Food supply was not consistent, with many shortages on dinner or poorly cooked meals. The camp supervisor failed to care about his employees, and refused to help if he was hungover. And after 2 months of grueling work with poor pay, there were many payment inconsistencies. 

Planting is one of the most gratifying jobs physically and mentally  that I ever have. we works in all kinds of weather, from rain and snow, to 35-degree heat. The work itself involves strapping on planting bags full of trees which is really hard on the body. We have to drink lots of water continuously throughout the long day of work.I learn to push myself to the limits without give up even when the condition are really hard. Everybody stinks of sweat and is pretty dirty but at the end of the day, we are proud of what we have done. its also a great place to make new friends because everyone s friendly.

I've worked at HRI for 7 years now, and have watched the company grow from a small and unorganized collection of camps to one of the largest and most successful tree planting companies in Ontario. Every camp fosters an inclusive and enjoyable culture, where people are more friends than co-workers. The company provide the opportunity to make good money if you are willing to work hard, and everyone is guaranteed to leave the season with memories to treasure.

Planted and worked for this company in Alberta and Ontario, company has issues with treating planters fairly and getting them paid, have been done planting for a whole month and I am still waiting to get paid and the company keeps giving excuses as to why they can’t give it to us yet. If you like not getting paid for work then join HRI. Great PLANTERS, terrible management.

As a tree planter, there is a target minimum amount of trees that a planter must plant so that it would cover the minimum wage. For example, you would have to plant 1100 trees per production day  if a tree rate is 0.11 cent per tree. For some people, that’s easy, but for others, it can be impossible. What matters is accurately assess your physical fitness to see if you have the endurance for this kind of job.

out come of this type of work is good in many ways some like military training but for tree reforestation as a tree planter myself for many year like to have the forest there the next generation to come as the forest industries it makes feel good that a land cane be cut to replant and have jobs there in those places that are been cut and regrowth.

Tree Planting itself is a very intense experience - not many people are cut out to survive it - let alone thrive at it.

The people at this company do a great job to train you and support you along the way - teach you how to become an epic treeplanter and make tons of $$$$. 

Food is FANTASTIC and Camp Life here is SO FUN!!!

Great experience to connect with the outdoors and meet great people. Living in what we call the bush, isolated from everything. You bring your own home (tent or van), cooks on site to feed you and long days of planting but very rewarding. You have to put in the work if you wanna make $
