Hi-Kalibre Equipment Ltd.

Normal 8 hour shift (7-4pm). As part of Valve Shop crew, check with my Lead Supervisor who would assign tasks which could vary allot. When it was busy, I would go to the busiest sector. Primarily handle a huger backlog of repair customer valves and downhole tools. Once assigned paperwork to get go ahead, dismantle valve, tools,  clean body (caustic tank), sandblast parts, lap balls then estimate for repair. At one point last fall there was a backlog of over 100 such valves. Once this was caught up, customers gave go ahead to repair. 
Coordinate schedule with Lead hand, begin assembly for testing. In one day I could do 10-12 jobs. Another day I could be moved to test the valves (LO/hi Pressure-4-12 tests). This also involves torqueing test caps/nubbins on valve. If passed they would be painted. Tests were recorded on hard drive for Engineer approval. I could also be assigned many other tasks, as I was back-up driver (Pick-up and delivery in Edmonton/Leduc area. I also was assigned tasks in machine shop (cut parts with band saw, lap new balls, ect). I also could have new employee job shadow me to train.

I worked with many layers of management (Owners, Engineers, mangers, lead hands) and front office staff, machine shop, Valve Shop as well as Clients, suppliers, contractors in shop and field.
Hardest part: short notice for job completion(a few hours to a day). I almost always completed it on time, helping company to retain or add work contracts. Also this gave me the most enjoyment. I was rewarded for this many times.

Everything was very bad and dirty. The manager was brain washing people and giving people low wage and recommend us to work fast with heavy equipment. People there were either rude or half fake people and they keep telling you did good but they back stab you and worse things is when you did something wrong they laugh at you. I don’t see any management in the company. After few month working when you know how to do the things and they try to drag you down and saying you don’t meet there standard.  Also the most ridiculous thing is they lie to people that position is open when there was already someone in that position role. What kind of big company lies when hiring people it’s a red flag. The hardest part of the job is know you did good but people do not appreciate. I only enjoy boss telling lie that you did good but after few weeks they will say no. What I learn working there is work fast and precise with over 100lb valve what a joke. They also ask you to be safety but keep putting pressure on you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I have been working with them for several years with minimal wage increase, BUT then when I trained a new employee they offered a higher wage than what I was earning. Also, when they try to offer you training for certain skills, by the time you accept, they've already given it to someone else. Very unprofessional

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
If you missed workdays for being sick and came back, they would give you more work and physically harder work than usual

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
we have our own working space but most of the time its been hard for us as we need to lift the heavy parts to our table.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I am doing different parts as what the customer needs.

When I got hired I started on the shop floor where I had a great hands on learning experience. Since then I have been promoted into an office position that I absolutely love. The management here recognizes skills and talent and because they are so hands on they see it first hand. 

At Hi-Kalibre everyone is treated as equals. I feel very lucky to have been hired here because now not only do I have a career, I also have joined an amazing team of people.

Management always looks out for their employees and are incredibly approachable when it comes to any issue that may come up. Its great working for a company that really cares about each individual.

The company was very understanding when I had a family emergency.
They did all they could to keep their staff on as long as possible during the economy downfall, I only worked there a few months when they had to implement work share but they still kept me on. 
The people I worked with were amazing and willing to teach me other machines.
The only issue I had was no night shift differential but the people on nights made it worth it.
Just over all a very good company to work for I'd go back in a heart beat if my life currently allowed for either shifts hours.

This company has poor management, they try to look good but when you actually work on the floor it's like high school all over again. They have a weird view of loyalty and basically emotionally manipulate people to work extra long hours. Most people that worked there were either looking for new work, quit or just didn't care about their job. The company is really great at pretending and has very little follow through. Nice facility but misplaced judgement and petty management nit picking. Foreman is creepy and asserts himself in an awkward way.

I have worked for Hi-Kalibre for about 4 months and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Management is supportive and extremely easy going, they are appreciative of hard work and show this both in meetings and by events such as BBQs. They have really created a fun environment both in the office and in the shop and because of this I actually enjoy coming to work each day!

Only work for them if you want to get stuck in one position your entire life no growth with them, management was good but they don't know what's happening in the shop. Pay was not great compared to other companies with similar job titles. Your job highly depend on oil market and work week may reduce to 3 days in slow times.

Arrived early at work everyday. Punched my time card and start working on the work orders intended for QC department. I enjoy working with all my co workers and the management is very approachable and helpful. The hardest part of the job is transfering the big valves to valve shop for assembly and testing.

I started at Hi-Kalibre as a delivery driver, worked through the warehouse and finally landed at an inside technical sales position. Management was always accommodating and they reward hard work with fair pay and advancement.
