-You don't know which hours you are working until the day before
-Evening shifts are all they offer, which means you don't see your family or friends
-Repetitive stress work means you will be repeating the same tasks over and over again, sometimes for days at a time. I suffered nerve and tendon damage despite bringing this to management's attention.
-Safety is on the onus of the employee, though work hazards abound.
-No safety protocols in place for respiratory hazards
-Oil and batter all over the floor between heavy machinery is considered "safe"
-Management is under-qualified to handle their responsibilities, and regarding the safety of others
-Quota demands override practical concerns
-Regressive work culture
-Incredibly hot in summer - no water bottles allowed
-"No recordable injuries" in two years. There's no injuries if you don't report them!
-A myopic focus on short term goals without any vision for the long term.
-High turnover, low retention. Management is unconcerned about the long term.


the first few months are okay but then comes a really intense workload with limited support - they like to say their culture is strong but be prepared to WORK HARD with little recognition. Decisions come slowly, you have to fight for every inch, and creativity is heavily regulated. It will appear fun  if you're performing well but expect heavy blame and finger pointing when something goes wrong. Its great if your looking for experience but I cant say its a place where you will want to stay long.  As you read the reviews, read as much as you can and listen to your gut feelings.. There's some well-meaning people in the org but there's a reason some of those comments say those things.

Poor leadership, lack of accountability by Management, high turn over of capable leaders, poor work ethics and fair treatment

High dysfunction ~ad hoc rules & changes made to cover errors

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Correction of other's errors and lack of attention in addition to regular work load. Constant pivoting, panic & long hours

The most boring job ever. Slow-paced and outdated to the core. Run by people who totally lack the most elementary business sense, and who have been there for ever, mainly because the company is not there to thrive, but just to survive. It is resting of their laurels on when High Liner Foods was the market leader in frozen foods, in the 80's. Now, it is a totally un-dynamic company run by a bunch of VPs who are there to maximize their own personal gain and retirement fund. If you want to be proud of the work you do, High Liner Foods is probably not the place for you.

8 hour shifts, you will start on nights and may be there for a long time depending on their need for more day shift producers. Sometimes voluntary overtime on Saturdays. Toxic politics make High Liner absolutely unbearable. Very incompetent management team who favor suck ups over valuable team members. A worker who speaks up about it will be bullied by the management team. A lot of time off and a reasonable paycheck help make it almost bearable.  Also some nice coworkers. Unionized plantI learned to favor my mental health over a paycheck 

- really great experience as an intern 
- balance in work/attending client meetings (not always in front of your computer all day)
- hybrid work environment- 2-3 days a week you can work from home 
-very welcoming work culture 
- as a student, there are a lot of people that have been in the industry for a long time that you can learn so much from, that being said, there are not a lot of young people at the company 

Had to call everyday to find out if you worked a day or night shift. They make there Manpower employees work a night then work a day shift atleast once every week. I was only given about 3 or 4 hours to rest between shifts. 

Lucky to get 40 hours a week, pay is way below average. I had to beg for my 4% vacation pay that was promised to me. 

A lot of the senoir workers have been there 30+ years and get off on picking and belittling the new people. Not a safe place to work 




Classic scenario, CEO over paid and the non union workers fighting for scraps and substandard benefits.  The biggest lesson was seeing how an environment can take decent people and turn them into monsters in order to fight for their livelihood.  Go back to school and get out of this industry.  The good years are over.   The fish has a longer shelf life than the upper management.

Excellent company overall. My manager was superb , great work ethic, family orientated, knowledgeable. Launched several new products that simply underperformed. Innovation was needed to be a better fit with todays demographics . Western Canada and Ontario retail sales are now through a broker.

Pay, and benefits were in the top percentile.

Culture is amazing from the start. I love that they care about each employee. Love that each employee has a voice. Business model is not work for HLS but work with HLF. Such an amazing work environment and people. Business structure is amazing. Tenure within this company makes me feel safe and well taken care of.
