Getting report, getting the residents up and washed and dressed for their day. Transporting residents to the dining room for breakfast. Feeding residents who need to be feed and making sure they enjoy their meal. Taking them back to their room to the bathroom. Setting them up for a nap or to watch tv or go to a activity. Making beds, and checking on residents who need to be turned every 2 hours. Helping residents with whatever they may need before lunch. Taking residents to the dining room for lunch. Answering any call bells that may go off during this shift. Feeding residents their lunch and taking them to the bathroom when finished or changing residents product who are not able to sit on the toilet. Cleaning up from lunch. Taking residents to activities or hair appointments in the facility or laying them down for a nap. Finishing any charting that may need done, taking laundry to the laundry room. Co- workers work as a team which makes the shift go smoothly. Management is always around if any questions need to be answered. The hardest part of the job I would say is working short or when a residents sees other residents have visits and no one comes to see them. It breaks my heart to see this. The most enjoyable part of this job is when you have a few minutes and can sit and talk to the residents. Nothing more rewarding than to sit and listen to their story of the war and how they met their spouse. Anything back in the old days warms my heart. It puts a big smile on their face to be able to talk to someone for a few minutes about their life. Showing you the old black and white photos of their wedding day in a long white dress and an army uniform. Or their husband in his army uniform waiting to come home to his army bride.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Bulling in work place, that ED and Doc never stopped and were bullies themselves. Even after being confronted, no changes were attempted.  Need to focus on staff retaining,I stead of just onboarding more agency.  Need to be detectives and recognize why good staff leave. It's not because of residents,fyi.
It's too bad, staff weren't support, imploded with agency workers,  home staff got by passed for OT, first.  Opportunity for advancement was never encouraged, palliative care was poor, only due to lack of staff. The home staff, genuinely care about residence, but management needs to step up and put there running shoes on to help, when shortages occur, resident care is way more important than some of those meeting, like morning meeting.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The disrespect, they talk about being a respective facility,but was not how things were inside. Very unfortunate to be honest.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressfully, demanding like all long-term care, however favouritism definitely part of problem also, resistance to change and evolving.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was complete chaos always. This made it very difficult to stay positive in this type of work enviy

Been with OMNI for 5 years and the home I work at is great, management listens and cares and tries to help with any need or issue you have - even personal. Our staff works fairly well as a team most of the time (not every day can be great). There is some cliques, and rivalry between shifts but that's to be expected at any job honestly, Healthcare or not, and people will talk about others behind their backs, but again it's expected at any job. With what bullying I have endured from other staff my management has handled it and made me feel safe. Whistle blowing policy is hard in a small home, but our union does it best. Yes, we work short and get overworked but it's at no fault to the home, there isn't enough PSWs in any home. I find that they train you well and if you're not comfortable they'll give you extra training. If you're involved in a team (ex. wound care team) you get to attend seminars and learn even more. In my small area pay for a PSW isn't very good but OMNI pays us well, better than most homes in this area. Overall I love working here, and do not intend to leave unless I move. Your fellow coworkers and residents will become family to you.

Working in a nursing home is hard honest work and isn't for the weak stomach or weak minded, nothing to do with OMNI or any other homes. It's a hard rewarding job in any department but in my eyes 100% worth it.

I was so happy to finally find a job I liked after so much uncertainty this year. The work itself was good, very fast paced and I enjoyed being super busy and active all day, even though it put a lot of strain on my body. I really liked talking to the residents, they were all so nice to me. Nice, helpful coworkers.

However, their attendance policy is the strictest I've ever seen and they don't give any warnings. Don't have the misfortune of catching the flu your kid brings home from daycare or they'll terminate you for missing the number of days THEY tell you to take off since you have a contagious virus (especially important working in a care home setting because residents are at risk). Even if you haven't had any other issues and have been working hard, they'll jump right to termination without talking to you about it one single time.

They really should hire some casual staff so that scheduled staff being sick doesn't mess up the whole department... Then maybe they could treat their staff with compassion when they're not feeling well instead of taking away a family's income because a human being caught a virus during flu season.

I started working at Almonte Country Haven about two years ago. At first when I started, the staff I worked with were very cold and set in their ways. I'd say that was the most difficult part about the job. However, some staff and I ended up becoming very close friends. 

The job was very fast-paced and stressful, but it made the work day go by faster. I preferred working evenings when it was a little bit more relaxed and easy going. There was still lots of work to be done though, just less people in your way. 

I found certain staff I worked with to be very gossipy and clique-y. If they didn't like you or the work that you did, they made sure to let you know. Not all staff was like that though. It really went from one extreme to another, as some were wonderful. 

I loved all the residents. They really were what made the job so rewarding! I really do miss them all. 

Management wasn't so bad, but they had their moments. I mostly worked evenings so I barely got to be around the managers, but my manager I actually liked very much; however, she didn't really have much backbone when it came to dealing with the staff that were treating others badly and unfairly. 

You are shown the tasks of your role and then a management staff tells you to do something else.  Later another staff on the management team speaks reminds that this is not part of your job. Senior PSW's run the place.  They behave inappropriately to the residents and at times to each other while on the floor, nothing happens. Many conflicts of interests- lots of family members work there, and on the same shifts.  They are constantly short staff and move staff, instantly you become a PSW no matter what your original position may have been that day. You can't trust anyone, all members of staff talk about each other. The quality of care the residents receive is below standard, residents may wait over 30 minutes to use the bathroom and they maybe lucky to get support.  Some PSW's just hang around the nurses station gossiping till their shift is finished... then resident is waiting for the next shift to begin.

Staff can be heard loudly talking about personal lives in dining rooms and residents rooms during care  
Very sub par living conditions 
Managers can be heard joking with staff about their inappropriate behaviour and seemingly condoning it
Staff do not appear happy, at times loudly proclaiming their displeasure in front of residents 
Residents left with dirty faces and hands after meals
Resident spoken to and scolded like child while staff wagged finger in their face 
Staff complain about being short staffed daily 
Staff are not welcoming to new staff and alienate them
Staff often use derogatory language 
Not a comfortable or welcoming living/working environment 




Just cleaned house with management and beginning to rebuild. So far the new management is responsive and accommodating. Staff are great to work with on all shifts and all departments. Follow the policies and job description and you're looking at a comfortable position. Psw staff are amazing!! Very efficient and have lots of experience with the residents and are currently 7.5 :1. The RN's are very experienced with the home, have excellent rapport with the physician and have excellent leadership qualities . The RPN's are efficient and effective. The covid-19 measures are in place set fourth by public health with well trained staff fully prepared incase of an outbreak. 

There is not enough time scheduled or staff scheduled to complete the daily work load in a safe manner with quality being sacrificed. Management pays no attention to residents and the need for them to feel comfortable and relaxed. They are focused on $$$ Resident spaces are used for storage and are not quiet or private. Staff run around in a hurry creating confusion,  anxiety and an overall neglectful atmosphere. Staff are pleasant and work harder than they have to because, Management doesn't side with them kr put forth issues to head office and the union is non existing and doesn't care. Overall this environment is not pleasant to work or live.

I have received a threat from this company, I suffered a lot from violating my privacy and being bullied. They prefer personal opinions to direct the residents than a professional opinion. My job requires lots of communication which they lack.They have respect to the working schedule. They try to force to do a work that I wasn't comfortable with due to the risks.

And finally just for doing my job for over 8 years they decided they don't need my service and when I asked why they threatened to call the cops. Be aware.
