Hilti was a truly strange place to work. The products and customer-facing support is fantastic and second to none. They have industry-leading technical services for anyone large and rich enough in the construction industry to afford their wares. 

Behind the scenes however, it gets odd. Hilti is run more like a cult than a business, with absolute allegiance and dedication expected from day 1. They take you away to Oklahoma (or did pre-covid) for a month to educate you and indoctrinate you into the fold. They expect zero questions, full dedication, and results. Quickly. 

Management is a mess. Local management helicopters and occasionally kills deals with the "Hilti way." They will never admit they're wrong (even to customers) and care more about their "way" than even making money. 

There's a great company in here somewhere. Maybe in Europe the rules are different and the organisation is well-run, but in Canada it was a mess and I'd sadly not recommend it to anyone. The pay was good if you did well, but very inconsistent. They'll only keep you if you're a cult member, hence their great scores in "place to work" polls that only ask people wholly engaged anyway. It's like polling a nursery looking for kids. 

Great product but the company will not listen to the customer driving business on their needs not the customer.  Your days will be spent trying to explain to customers why their orders are weeks late, and as you progress building sales you actually get paid less as it is year over year growth and you don't get paid on that growth just your target.  Employees have been forced to pay for office/business expenses such as paper, shipping boxes, tape and are charged for wear and tear on devices.  Long story short is they over engineer everything including tools, processes, and relationships.

Great products.

Lots of ongoing sales  + product training.

Work/Life balance.

Job Security.

Career advancement opportunities (may require most to U.S.).

Weak leadership in sales team.   Regional Managers are often very little more than distributors of forecasts + company communications.     Most do very little to support their sales team or come up with creative solutions to help their team succeed.

Very good company to work for but be aware that if you want to move up in the company you have to wait for them to recommend you do.
It is not how you feel that you are ready but how management feel about your move. Also, be aware that others that might not have what it needs to move up are often chosen before you simply due to favoritism and personal friendships.
Workplace culture can be overwhelming especially when favoritism is present and too obvious.

the time spent here really took a toll on my mental health

Good local culture but the leadership out of Head Office is quite disconnected from the feet on the street.  Our president also made a number of promises and never delivered. She had promised our entire MO Canada Goose Jackets and gloves if we achieved certain KPIs.  Many of us did and never received our ‘gifts’... we did get a different jacket but not what was promised and still waiting for our gloves but it’s been over a year so my boss said this is not likely to happen....

Overall they have a good culture and wotk life balance. Lot of improvement till the point you lose track of what's working and wahts not. Some local managers are inexperienced and will put unnecessary pressure on you (micromanagement). You must be a social butterfly or a bootlicker to be considered for promotions. And if you take tuition reimbursement they will make you pay it back when you leave them.

Training was favorable.

I enjoyed travelling, but there was a High Sales Calls Count per day.

Mentor was selling into my territory; customers were telling me that this was happening.  Manager did not care and did not remove from the sales budget.

They had a different account manager every year for the past 6 years.  Should have took notice.

Training received was the only thing that was benefitial.

People are awesome. Procedures can be overly Germanic. World class training program in Tulsa where you meet peeps from all over to learn about the business. Great earning & advancement potential.

To me the culture is the most important thing i have never felt like a number, always treted as an equal a little sister a part of a family
