its fun i try to help the players have fun doing it and keep the game moving. I talk to the players give them quick advice try to cheer them up if needed.
my co-workers are usually new to the job so i get the pleasure of teaching them giving them pointers to help their game. first intermission i'll ask if they have any questions about any of the calls i made or if they didnt understand something. at a stoppage of play if its something quick i'll skate by and tell them example, "hey yell louder so i can hear you". just simple thing slike that. then at the end of the game ask them if there is anything i can work on. then visit with them as we get changed or get ready for the next game

Get to Referee games on any day of the week but more frequently on weekends varying from 7:30am-8:00pm. Getting yelled at and losing control over a game and trying to regain control over it is the hardest if not the most hardest part of the job. The most fun about it is getting to watch a hockey game and see kids learn. Most Games only being a hour to two and a half hours long.

it was a way to keep me involved in the hockey community without having to play. I enjoyed officiating the fast pace game. You learn to act calm under high amounts of stress from coaches and viewers. The hardest part of the job was making sure that you never made a mistake because if you do the consequence is more stress put under you. If you know hockey and are trying to make quick cash, i'd recommend being a hockey referee.

Being a referee is a complicated task, many of the people I interviewed with only worked for 1 season. one reason I learned is the process of being assigned games to work requires diligence on the part of the individual where it could be a less involved task. availability is key for working as a referee if you want to work a lot.

being a referee for hockey Alberta you only work weekends and since its games you might have a big gap in between games so you have to sit around and wait. i learned a lot about communication and maturity because you responsible for the safety of the player.

Fun place to work, with a great staff who is passionate about the work they do. Very welcoming organization with a family type atmosphere. Very hard working individuals.

Turning my passion to a job was great, but sometimes fans can be a little bit too much, but it's all part of the game. I love how everyone in that building shares the same passion for hockey

Get paid well for a 14 year old but can be hard with the intense hockey environment, but can also easily build yourself up the ranks. The people working alongside you are helpful and make sure you're given a decent amount of games.

A good job for busy people. Some coaches can be tough to deal with but overall a pretty laid back and nice job to have for making cash during spare time.

learned how to lead how to listen to complaints. you create your own schedule and that is very beneficial you are very much in control of how much and when you work.
