I'd show up to work at about 8 am and spend the next eight and a half hours running around and trying to place things in their proper spot whilst also balancing having to do the cash up at the front and unloading delivery trucks on my own on Wednesdays and Fridays. 

It was a lot to try and pick up for my first retail job and I was more or less thrown into the deep end and told to swim. It was hard, worthy work that made you feel good at the end of the day but also drained and left little to no time for relaxation in the evening before waking up at dawn for another day.

The workplace culture seemed to be very cliquey there, I seemed to be initially welcomed but eventually, people would get quiet when I'm walking by or they'd look at me whilst talking with one another. As a new worker, it was hardly a open environment after the first week and it led me to isolating myself further.

During my time spent working at the Home Building Centre, i have built many strong bonds with customers and other co-workers. Working in the yard is a very strong team based environment.  I have acquired many soft skills from working in this field, dealing with problems that come with customer service and learning how to solve them appropriately. The hardest part of the job is some of the physical labour, i can do all that is required of my job position, some is more than i am familiar with. But all in all, the job gets done everyday with no issues.

I thoroughly enjoy each day working in the lumber yard and while interacting with customers on delivery.  All the employees enjoy a close knit relationship. A typical day is filled with fast paced, heavy lifting of building materials.  The manual labour is broken up by the constant loading and unloading of trucks with the use of a forklift.  The pay however is the main issue for me.

A typical day at work was was packing drywall,a grulling job,where most days u feel like your arms were gonna fall out of your sockets.
when you were not packing drywall u were getting orders ready for delivery,sweeping the lot,restocking materials and helping costomers.
the coworkers were good to be around.the most enjoyable part of the job was learning to use the forklift.

Arrive for my shift and verify my daily cash float; process transactions while stocking shelves, answering customers questions and filing paperwork into the filing cabinet. End of day count and balance cash and hand to manager. Gather all necessary paperwork and place in the office.

Good and knowledgeable employees are bullied out. Inside management ignores problem people because it’s too much work to actually manage. Instead, they look to push out people who alert them to issues. No true HR department means they don’t take harassment or culture issues seriously until forced. Turning a blind eye means less work for them.

Working here was rewarding in the sense that I learned a lot, and was very physically fit by the time I went back to school. A lot of the people I met I consider valuable contacts within the industry.

As a plumbing ,Kitchen and bath specialist I l had a great client base some of  them I still have contact with at CAA , I have been lucky to have such great learning experiences along the way

It was a good experience working at home building centre because your learn tons of their inventory in the store and out, also you have to serve a lot of customers so that builds my confidence with customer service.

off loading of transport trucks was easy....some good people to work with...friendly customers every day...management doesnt know how to deal with employees...wages are all over the place...all wages are a secret
