I learned how to separate customer service and interpersonal socializing. I learned not to take certain remarks personally. I learned the appropriate way to handle emergency situations. I can socialize with anybody now, despite being reserved and shy.

The management frequently changed hands. I respect the effort they put in, but I often found myself managing myself and my concerns on my own.

The workplace culture was great in the beginning. I was truly happy for once in a job. I made new friends. However, I felt I stayed too long. It began to deteriorate over time. The long term employees, including myself, were given preferential treatment despite several deficiencies in their character, health, and work ethic.

The hardest part of the job is during the winter car wash season. It is cold and wet. Customers will come non-stop, very little time is given for breaks/lunch if any at all. Often times you can have 4 to 5 employees working at the same time, and still find very little time to catch your breath.

The most enjoyable part is the laid back spring and summer season. There are less customers, giving you more of an opportunity to provide 1 on 1 service. It's a better experience for the customers and the employees.

I would go to work with the unsettling feeling of not knowing what I was going to get into trouble for that day, nothing was ever good enough for the owner or the current manager we were not allowed to talk to each other or to look like we were enjoying ourselves. I learned to to take bad days on the chin, the management would never tell you that you were doing a good job no constructive critsism they just let you blow in the wind until they had a reason to fire you (total power trips) never took the time to listen to your concerns about the job, always had something negative to say about everything and everyone. My co-workers were the best! Awesome friends I have made they stood up for me and I did the same for them, even after I got fired for another co-workers mystery shop I still go in and see them everyday to see how they are doing. Hardest part of the job is to not go insane cause it gets incredibly boring and also to have to put up with the manager and the owner. Most enjoyable part of the job was going in to see my co-workers and customers which some of whom I have made great connections with. I do not recommend anyone to go work for this company unless they enjoy to feel as if they are worthless and nothing more than dogs to the owner and manager. They will also try to steal from you if they are given the chance.

- I worked remotely from my home with one or two days per week at the Husky Hardisty site.
 - I learned details about tank storage, blending as well as commissioning and start-up of large tanks.  I gained an appreciation for the process and political history of the Hardisty area.
 - It was a great privilege to work with senior operators who were happy to share wisdom gained from decades of experience in and around Hardisty.
 - The hardest part of my job was getting used to working remotely from home rather than going to an office.  I learned how to schedule and balance my work day with family needs.
 - The most enjoyable part of the job was standing on top of the tank waiting for the high high alarm to trip as we brought the tank back into service.  It was extremely satisfying to watch the efforts of many good people pay off with a safe and successful start-up.  Very proud moment.

My first day of work was June 14, 2010, as a cashier. I did not have any knowledge about the Cash counting job and also did not any knowledge about the cash register. Our Manager taught us how to use a cash register and a credit/debit card. She also taught us how to fill up the cooler and display our inventory on the shelves. I also learned from her about 4P(Price, Product, Promotion and Place). She told me that the 4ps is the most important element for marketing. Our co-worker was friendly and helpful. Any types of problem, they helped me a lot. The hardest part of the job was how to handle the customer. Our Manager told us that our five fingers are not the same. So all customers are not the same. Customers' satisfaction is the enjoyable part of the job.

I would start with going through my inbox.  Dealing with the ones that are time sensitive or people wanted information. That is very important that you give the customer the best experience as you are the first line 
I then would work on any requisition, and any re tech training that needs to be addressed.   Process any purchase orders, arranging hot shots if need be.  Being on top of logistics, is very important

I worked on various tasks such as, Learning Matrix.  having to decide what positions require certain minimum safety requirements.  I also planned the biggest turnaround we had ..arranged the venue, booklets, lunch for the workers

I also created a monthly newsletter with what is in the Husky news and what we have coming up.  I actually created a daily update during the turn a round;  I would update the work that is being done.  I created a Contractor Spotlight and would put them in the newsletter as a thank you for their hard work.

Only two leaders in the organization have been consistent with their proper approach to the company, CEO and SVP HO&OS , they look like excellent managers that anyone wants to works with them.

Some managers don't have experience handling people nor technical experience but they are managers because they are friends with somebody in leadership

If you want to succeed in Husky, you need to be friend or share coffee with leadership. Corporate offices people spend all their time walking around +15 and drinking coffee at Starbuck.

Areas of the company are silos working on their own without following company structure.

Corporate initiatives to the areas are some times not well planned and waste time to implement and areas are taking the approach to close the door to any initiatives (good or bad) coming from corporate

Major Organizational changes are done every year with the excuse of improving the organization, this cause that people live unease because they don't have job security

Husky was a great work company for me to have worked for during the 13 years I spent with them.  The other employees were for the most part very competent and caring individuals who took great pride in performing good work.  The managers were focused and fair minded people that made good business decisions and worked with their staff on a personal level.  Value growth was important to Husky but not at the expense of safety or integrity of operations.  I feel maybe this part was over-emphasized as our competitors were able to achieve safe work environments but with much lower cost affecting Husky's competitiveness.  That said I do respect Husky's commitment towards operating safely and responsibly - something the company's done in almost every environment possible making them a top quality oil and gas operator.

overall, it is a great experience of working as cashier at the husky gas station. Everyday, I meet with new people and learn about their culture and type of people. I also learn how deal with the different type of customers. My co-workers are really good. I understand their needs and motivate them to do good. for example, one of my co-worker needs money then I told him to do work outside and interact politely with people. so that they give you tips. I also motivate him by giving him feedback that he is doing very good and very soon you will buy your own car. The hardest part of my job is when i have to sit free in night shifts. I will use my time to do cleaning and dusting. The most enjoyable part of my job is to interact with people and learn how to deal with the customers and how to motivate my co-workers.

I was a wrench pulling field maintenance worker, changing vales one day and gathering garbage the next. The next thing I know, I was asked to meet with the maintenance supervisor for a job opportunity because I knew my way around a computer and was fairly knowledgeable with windows software and Microsoft office. I had an informal interview with my supervisor and was asked if I would consider taking the position of maintenance planner because of the recommendations of some of my co-workers. I was given a short probation period to see if I could make the cut, in which I surpassed their expectations. A substantial pay raise was given and I had my own office, I was on my way to a new career and further advancement within Husky.
