I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a company that leaves much to be desired in terms of management, employee appreciation, and food safety. This company, has a plethora of issues that warrant attention, not to mention is financially unstable and has had significant layoffs in the last year.

First and foremost, the lack of effective management is glaringly evident. It seems as though there is no clear direction or leadership within the organization. This leads to confusion among employees and a general sense of disorganization. Decisions are often made last minute and haphazardly, without considering the long-term consequences for the business and its workers.

Employee appreciation is virtually non-existent in this company. Employees are treated as mere cogs in the machine, rather than valued contributors. There is a palpable lack of recognition for hard work and dedication, leading to low morale and high turnover rates. It's disheartening to see individuals who invest their time and effort into the company go unnoticed and unappreciated.

Perhaps the most concerning aspect is the company's disregard for food safety. In an industry where the health and well-being of consumers should be paramount, this company falls short.

First, they eliminated the majority of the Food Safety team - the team that should be the top priority in a facility that is producing FOOD. This left only 3 Food Safety staff at their facility.
Next, they eliminated both Food Safety Managers leaving only the Food Safety Associate who ended up taking on a significant amount of job duties. No raises or appreciation was given.
Finally, after the Food Safety Associate successfully achieved FOR THE COMPANY, a prestigious Certification that would benefit the company, they eliminated their position the following week claiming "company restructuring due to financial issues". Oddly enough, the company has no issue spending thousands of dollars on parties, alcohol for happy hours and snacks, despite their "financial situation." Talk about LACK OF APPRECIATION!! The site manager also did not fight to keep the position which was a huge letdown... claiming he had no idea this was coming.

The company currently has ZERO Food Safety staff on site which is appalling given the company is a FOOD producer.

The amount of food waste is equally appalling. Thousands upon thousands of plants are rejected (majority are thrown out) on a fairly regular basis due to insignificant flaws (microscopic) deemed unacceptable by the client. The company has not sourced new clientele thus are stuck appeasing their current client.

In conclusion, my experience with this company has been deeply disappointing. Where I thought I had the Production Managers backing, and ultimately was betrayed by his lack of support against the removal of my position, was extremely hurtful  and my trust broken. 
The company lack of effective management, constant financial instability, failure to fully appreciate employees, and disregard for food safety are major red flags.
I suggest to strongly stay away from Infarm.

Sadly the company (in Canada) has been shutting down locations across Canada, it seems the business model is unsustainable. It was great to be here to learn and get things started or done but the training is lacking and there is not the traditional guidance. A lot of my training was through other people in my position in another place (Vancouver/Hamilton) so it was a lot of virtual meetings and Q&A. Not a huge amount of accountability so you have to be really driven to work and make sure your part is done or being worked on. The upper management is very questionable and it seems to be very hard to make decisions on the higher end without going through 9 reviews from different departments that have nothing to do with the proposed decision. There is a lot of bloat in the higher end management and it was very difficult to deal with. Everyone seems to be involved in everything, HSE was for some reason involved in maintenance procedures and dictated changes they wanted to see even though they have no idea how our machines work or what the procedures should be. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with the plants was the best part. The freedom to do my job without management constantly breathing down my neck because it was remote. Being inherently trusted by my manager to do my job and to ask for help when I needed it. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having to get all of my farming done on time when it was too much before the rearrangement of the routes. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The Calgary Field Team (different from the Calgary Hub Team) was a supportive environment that valued independence, competence, fun, and community. The work environment was inside of Safeways and Sobeys across the city so it depended heavily on what stores you were in often. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Drive to your first location, farm, package, and clean up. Drive to the next locations and do the same things. Video call meetings were common. You tended not to see any other Infarmer for weeks at a time.

No room for growth in the company, and zero drive out of management to set goals and create drive to move forward in your role. Alot of talk of having a fun, engaging culture, work life balance - no follow through. Upper management seems a bit lost and people team have no idea what they are doing. Alot of growth in a very short period of time so alot of important things have fallen through the cracks, and you get the feeling management does not care about employees... just if the job is getting done.

This is a new company with ambitious and realistic goals for food sustainability. I am proud to be part of their team as I believe in their mission to produce food locally while being energy efficient. 
I cannot say enough about the talented, smart and kind people I work with. The benefits are great, and the holidays and sick pay are on point. The only downfall is the wage does not meet the cost of living these days.

All the team members and people from other teams are friendly and awesome. We always help each other when needed and willing to exchange ideas about work and life. 
Tasks are very repetitive. But can have flexibility to improve if you're willing to explore better solution. The managers always welcome suggestions and have a try.


Floundering company with upper management that consistently makes bad decisions and pushes the consequences of those decisions onto their workforce. The people who I directly worked with were amazing but it was hard to thrive when the company couldn't provide health insurance or even proper supplies for working due to lack of funds.

Everyone is helpful and very supportive. They are the best people I've ever worked with, even the managers. My manager especially was very committed to making sure you feel supported and heard. 

Terrible leadership and division of labour. Many do little work for higher wages and others do the lions share of taskmaster type work for less wages.

Infarm is a great idea wich was developed in Europe and currently merged to Canada wide
With the right management it will grow and be defined as one of the best places to work in Alberta
