All aspects of the job are typically what you would expect, except for management.


Allow me to preface this review by saying I had a part time, temporary position as a picker only. I received this job offer through a work agency.

Management
They're pushy, commanding, and essentially terrible at their job. 

Temp employees such as myself, wore nametags. These served no purpose, as management would literally snap their fingers and exclaim "HEY! I need you." to get your attention, followed by a come here motion without even making eye contact. Terrible communication as a whole.

I had taken the job as a picker only, but management demands that you fulfill other tasks as well, jobs not in your job description. Expect to do 4-5 other jobs around the warehouse as the management please, with no bonus compensation. All with the same aggressive demanding "HEY!"

Other
- Major intersection of Hurontario and Britannia West.

- Regular bus routes are close by. If you do take public transit, keep in mind the walking time from your stop. For me it was a good 10 minutes.

- For your lunch options, there's a Wendy's/Tim Hortons, and a Subway restaurant along Hurontario. Ingram Micro is far enough that even on your lunch break, you can only really eat at these places if you drive with a car.

- Parking spots seem to be ample.

- The majority of the lockers are located in the washrooms, which were all completely used by full time employees. Personal belongings such as watches and cellphones aren't allowed past the revolving door, so you'll load them in an envelope and give them to security to hold. You can also put them in your car, if you have one.

- Absolutely zero free lockers for my own temp group meant storing our lunches in the communal fridge. I never really ate lunch or stored mine there, but there's a glaring risk of someone stealing your lunch, or worse, an allergy accident.

Overall
Normally I'm a patient person, but it's been tested when I worked there. Please, save yourself the headache and reconsider working for the management at Ingram Micro.

Ingram Micro being as big as it is for some reason decided to outsource their HelpDesk to another company, a telemarketing company to be more specific.

While Ingram Micro is not a bad company overall, the outsourcing company is just terrible, we wouldn't have enough tools to work and the managers didn't want to bother Ingram with our requests. We would also be under this outsourcing company policies and rules, which means that many times we couldn't do our job due to their dumb rules, for e.g., we had to support DropBox, OneDrive, Office Online and so on, however, those websites and many more would be blocked and there was no way to work properly. 

We also could not under any circumstances troubleshoot the customer's problems, WHAT? Yes, that is true, the outsourcing company wanted us to work on as many cases as possible, their way of thinking was exactly this: if it takes you more than 10m to fix it, ignore, escalate or postpone it. 

And the issues keep going, Supervisors/Team Leader without ANY people skills to the point that it was not rare to hear one of them screaming publicly: IF YOU DON'T GET BETTER YOU WILL GET FIRED. While we had to have a diploma and Microsoft certification there were other people working with us that couldn't distinguish a GPU from a subwoofer or even use Google to search for the issues and I swear I am not kidding.

If you are reading this and plan to work for Ingram, good luck and you should try it, as I said before Ingram itself is a good company. However, if you are planning to work on an outsourcing company that takes care of the Lv 1 and 2 support, forget it, go search for something better.

Working as a Sales Representative at Ingram Micro has been an incredibly rewarding experience. In response to the expulsive growth of the computer and technology information (IT) industry beginning in the early 1990’s, the company grew rapidly.  The competitive nature of the distribution business demanded constant changes in order to differentiate and take advantage of market share. The environment was challenging but also provided the opportunity personal development and career advancement. Management was very supportive of associate’s development through training and promotion.

Then came the decline in the computer and IT sector which lead to reduced profit margins, the need to outsource and lay-offs. Those of us who were fortunate to retain our jobs had the benefit to travel for work to train and develop associates in other regions and cultures. 

Work/life balance was a major challenge, more so with the advent of laptop and cellphone, but I enjoyed every aspects of the job. I looked forward daily to the interaction with my colleagues and vendor representation to resolve issues. Although some of the trips were gruesome, I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the cultural exchanges.  The most fulfilling part of the job was training, coaching and mentoring: especially new hires, the outsource providers and co-op students.

Overall rating is poor because:

1.Job Work/Life Balance: It was common to be harassed into working extra hours without consideration for employees needs, even up 14 hours a day at times and not during the Xmas rush.

2. Salary/Benefits: Salary is low and benefits were often discussed on spoken of in front of workers yet rarely did workers have direct access to them. Keep in mind that the majority of the company's workforce is taken from temp agencies.

3. Job Security/Advancement: Non-existent. Easy to be fired; sent home; laid off; asked to come back; etc... Common to be cross-trained but do not expect formal promotions even after several months of doing multiple roles.

4. Management: My direct manager was clearly a substance abuser and yet that manager's colleagues seemed fine with it. During my time there, the GM was fired for a scandal and the supervisor pool was rife with overbearing and uncaring types. To put it simply, one was lead to believe that the worker is always wrong unless being approached by the top manager visiting from L.A.

5. Job Culture: Met a lot of good people who were trying to make a start or a change in their lives. Although while on the job, social interaction and teamwork is strictly prohibited for the temp workers. Direct hire workers seemed to have more flexibility.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The overall work environment is toxic and the old female employee's have a tendency to complain about new hires saying they were looking at them just because you are working hard and re messing with their daily average, secondly you have no job security and they will fire you for inadequate reasoning and not compensate because they would hire from workforce company's and offer them a short term contract and lead them on saying that you are working good and we might hire you basically beating around the bush and not giving a direct answer and the management is also pretty sketchy so beware.

No job security, toxic employees and management 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very toxic since the old employees don't want their dynamic so they will go to the extent of saying you were looking at then in the wrong way  and the management will not to anything about it and instead they will fire you and give you pooor reasoning and not even compensate you.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Everyday is like you never know when you will get fired

Don't get me wrong Ingram as an organization is great and the people that work for Ingram have some great talent. The company  has a strategic focus on Cloud, my view like most others that have worked for Ingram Cloud  posted reviews in this forum (you should read thru the feedback) poor leadership, no strategy, with no people skills are unfortunately true,  I would recommend that you re-think and look at other strategic areas of the Ingram business before joining this team..  The actual cloud sellers are great people with a lot of skill, however,  they are setup to fail with unreachable targets. Poor management creates poor morale and the majority of people are unhappy.  People leave almost regularly and in my few years I have seen my entire team move on within the first 6 months and this seems to be a regular cycle on the cloud team.   People join then realize that they have to move on because of the toxic management and no support on how to achieve success.

Benefits: mediocre - no maternity/paternity top ups. Most of the paramedical benefits are not even covered such as Acupuncture. 

Tools: You are given a 5 year old laptop whose battery is almost gone. Then you buy a personal laptop to be productive but your access is limited so you are forced to use the 5 year old laptop. 

Work from Home/ flexibility: It took a global pandemic for them to realize that its ok to work from home. Work from home will not lower productivity. 

Leadership: Culture where everything is important. No empathy for employees. If you work 16 hours one day but ask for a 2 hour break the next day to attend to something personal - you are asked to take the day off because management feels you will be slacking off. Management is so "operational" in thinking that they cant think beyond productivity and throughput even in a non operational role. 

The only positive thing to say is that you will learn a lot and there are some good people who work here who can help make the experience bare-able. 

I would urge anyone applying to a role in Toronto to seriously consider all the pros and cons.  



Ingram Micro works with the vendors and sales reps to ensure employees are trained in many areas of the IT industry.  Regular training sessions are part of your work week done either first thing in the morning or at lunchtime.  

The job is very detailed oriented and requires great organization.  Lots of perks for the sales reps.

As an Account Executive you manage your own accounts, however, there is a team environment.  Co workers are always happy to help which is invaluable in such a busy work day.

The challenge in this position is time management.  There are service levels to be met for your customers and sometimes that can get hectic.

Despite being a very busy day, employees receive lots of extras from various vendors.  As well you are trained on the latest in products (software and hardware).  Lots of incentives.

A great bunch of people to work with.

Having worked at this company for 10 years, I learned a tremendous amount of product knowledge.

Great work environment, staff are kind and helpful. Although the work environment is nice, the demand is very high and fast-paced. The problem is that there are specific goals for each area being worked in. One area required employees to do 60 picks an hour, which means you need to get 60 products within an hour. To pick that into perspective, you only have one minute to find the product, scan it and place it in the shipping box. This may seem easy, but when the item is not in the area it is supposed to be, you would have wasted time walking there and searching for it. Sometimes, the product is not in the right spot so, you have to go to that area to find it (if it is there). For summer students, you are paid just above minimum wage, but for the demand, I believe students should get paid at least $1 or $2 more.
