The manager in the Atlantic provinces was the one who guided me through the hiring process and was my direct superior throughout my time working at Intrepid. Beware, as they are extremely dishonest throughout your employment at Intrepid. The company provides no training, as is the opposite of what I was told in the interview process. They expect you to learn through watching youtube videos and unpaid practice on your days off. They also do not tell you what equipment you need to purchase yourself if you do not already have the required equipment (in the amount of approx. $1000 CAN). The pay was good, although constant repairs on your personal vehicle add up. Do not suggest to your manager ways they can help you, they don’t like that very much and will punish you for it. During cases where it is impossible to accomplish the objective of the investigation alone, they will not allow another investigator to help, even though it would accomplish the objectives of the investigation. This leads to much frustration as the investigation fails without the required 2 investigators. Again, this may not apply outside the Atlantic provinces, as there are different managers outside the Atlantic area. This was my experience working at Intrepid, be aware of these facts when you interact with this company.

I've seen a couple of negative reviews about this company in regard to the management. Not sure what experiences these people had (or what motivations they may have) but I always found this management group to go above and beyond for their employees. While working here I saw many instances where  management/owners put aside the interest of their financial bottom line in favor of what was best for the staff. It's quite surprising to see anyone raise concerns about management at this company. I would encourage interested applicants to read online reviews, including this one, with a eye of scepticism. It's always best to do your own research by contacting the company, speaking to management and developing your own opinion on whether or not this would be a good fit for you. Use this approach and you won't need to worry about whether or not someone has a vested interest in making up stories that aren't based in reality.

Worked here for multiple years. My manager is probably one of the good ones (You know which ones aren't). Work is busy during the summer, and then during the winter you're probably going to get laid off and told to rely on EI for the next month to 3 months. Chances are you won't receive a raise as I'm still making what I was hired on at. No chance of internal promotion, they'd rather higher someone from outside the company, so don't expect to be able to move up. Their internal website is ridiculously outdated. The standards for employees is inconsistent, one day you'll do something no issue, the next day it's an issue. They'll give you the spiel of "We'll make an effort to keep you" when hiring you, and then proceed to disregard you asap.

I've been in the industry for a while now and have worked for all of the national firms and smaller ones. Intrepid is by far the worst to work for, and you won't know if you haven't experienced the other companies. They expect you to write reports for free, do all of this administrative work on your own time while every single other companies pays you for it. They have the bare minimum mileage cost and see employees as very disposable. Do yourself a favor and just ask what other companies are paying for report, travel time etc. To top it all off, the management there, depending on the location, is atrocious. Condescending micromanagement that has no place in a professional work environment.

management cares about the employees, it isnt all about the bottom line. if you do good work youll get the hours. if you want to travel its possible, relocation is also possible as it is a national company still growing. wages start out somewhat low but increases are frequent and generous. always work in the summer, winter slows down quite a bit but do a good job and youll get the hours. other staff is friendly, however as with anywhere, people talk.

summers can be overwhelming for hours, winters can be limited, plan accordingly.

I have been with Intrepid for approximately 1 and 1/2 years and I find it to be an extremely healthy environment.  Everyone is treated equally from the top down.  I have been in the industry for a number of years and I find this to be one of the few times in my career that I am working for a company that truly cares about me as an individual.  They are not just about the bottom line, which so many businesses are.  We all have our jobs to do and if you do it well, you will be recognized for it.  I feel valued everyday of work, by the people that surround me.  Your future is bright with this company.

Excellent leadership that all start from the President and thruout the company. Truly care about all staff.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Insurance company demands. Seasonal highs and lows

Great culture if you are a loyal, hard worker


Management communicates, listens, and tries its best to  create an environment for all team members.

Everyone matters. 



Management is dishonest and is severely toxic. Micromanagement runs rampant. Management does not allow for independent thinking. Not recommended. If you have any amount of self regard or self esteem, do not join. Other firms will gladly hire you and treat you with respect.

I only left as I was moving away. I learned a lot of new skills and felt supported. Great management and co-workers. A lot of travel around the Maritime provinces but that was one of the perks.  Challenging assignments but it's good to learn.
