The company had no safety vests for workers to wear and saw nothing wrong with this clear violation of labour law in an environment where forklifts and heavy equipment routinely operate. Management is inept and demanding, blaming workers for being unable to meet impossible quotas while offering meaningless or even detrimental advice to achieve these quotas. 

The average day at work involves being bothered constantly by management asking for "your numbers" (i.e.: how many files you have completed) and subsequently decrying your "slowness". This is the case regardless of how many files you actually do. Be ready for pointless delays caused by managerial grandstanding, long hours in an awkward location (a car is practically essential; only the 96A and the 118 go near the warehouse in Ottawa), deplorable attempts to speed workers up (such as posting "results" so as to create "competition"), and a culture of utter devaluation. Going home at night to start this again was a torture.

On top of the crushing demands, the workplace has no concept of life/work balance. You will experience neverending pressure to take on overtime to compensate for their inability to fulfill their contracts. The slightest delay in returning from lunch or break elicits the profoundest sort of whinging from team leaders regardless of when you actually start work. Taking time off was a nightmare. I got the sense that sales had signed several contracts that they simply could not actually fulfill because it satisfied some sales goal of some kind; the company in turn automatically blames the people working for it rather than attempting to honestly understand the disconnect between contract promises and their ability to actually fulfill that contract.

The work itself is almost criminally easy. There is no challenge, no interest, and no variation. Simply scan and index. A barrel of bees could do the job, and after a week or two you will be bored stiff of the work. It's monotonous and bland. To be fair, they do allow you to listen to music, but it is a small solace.

This company will chew you up and spit you out. It is an uncaring, seething pit of uselessness and decay from whence nothing good arrives. The pay was low for the suffering incumbent to the job. If your other option is starvation you could probably survive this toxic environment for a couple of months - otherwise, I suggest working elsewhere.

Expect to work with super sensitive information (sometimes even government information) for minimum salary. There are no chances of salary raise, just some 50 cents if you're lucky because the company and the union have been at negotiations for many years... negotiations that always end up in favor of the ancient employees only while the newer employees gain nothing.
Syndicate only care about ancient employees (those of more than 10 years) so don't expect they'll fight for you.
 
This company tolerates racism and discrimination big time, there was a big incident all over the news a while ago and the perpetrator of the racism is still working there. I've personally witnessed many situations of harassment and management decides to do nothing because they're too scared of union.

Management is highly disorganized and take the worst decisions. The supervisors don't care about the employees, they just care about keeping the big boss happy. However they will tolerate pretty much anything (lateness, people that do whatever they want) as long as the production is high they don't care about anything else. And I've seen the cases of 2 people who were not paid after two months of work.

Environment is toxic. People seem to always be in a bad mood, older employees are always complaining and looking down on everyone, there is high competitivism and people are always stabbing at each others backs. I've never worked at a place with such toxic co-workers before.

There is no such thing as earning your place and being a good worker and role model, at the end of the day, the older employees will get all the benefits even if they are lazy and work half as hard as you. Stay away from this place. The only good thing is the insurance, since they have 100% dental among other benefits.

It might be a great company to work for if you can get in as a driver permanent full time since it is unionized. Coming in at entry level as a Records Coordinator is tough to endure.

It's great if you like physical work, more like a workout. I lost 5 lbs. during the few months I was there.But it's really a numbers game. It's a challenge to maintain the quota the management has set for you as your numbers might decline to due fixing other people's f#$% ups. I am referring to the people that worked previous shifts before you that didn't finish their jobs properly.  

We're either pulling out boxes of files or putting them away. Some people get away with not putting away boxes all the way to the back of the shelf so the next poor sap ends up doing it when he gets sent to that location. Or another frequent occurrence is others stacking heavy boxes on top of a stack and placing the lighter ones at the bottom.

As result, this slows down your production and time. Management might be aware of this but they don't really care. You're not really being monitored as your do your work. You have a handheld scanner to scan labels for all the file/ file boxes you process  All they are concerned with is the bottom line if you could maintain your quota. Which is why I believe some workers cheat the system and take shortcuts. They fudge their numbers just to make their quota of number of boxes put away or pulled.

Another thing I didn't like was that I would often get relocated to another one of their satellite locations. They were all in the Metro Vancouver area however it's quite the distance having to be moved from south Burnaby to east Coquitlam and not be paid gas allowance ( commuting from Richmond ).

-inbound up to 1500 packs of paper( loans, mortgages ect.)
-label and organize these bundles into sections of the warehouse that they will be getting put away.
-Fine sort the bundles into more detailed piles for easy put away. It could be back logged days that i would be sorting.
- If put on the task of doing "file put away" i would scan one paper at a time from a sorted bundle to the correct unit and shelf and proceed to find the file the bundle of paper belongs to and put it in. I would continue to repeat theses steps till the alotted time for the task was up.
Minimal communication due to consantration.
Our department was also responsible for checking rush orders or half day orders which requires checking the system every 10- 15 minutes. It was also our responsibility to go pull the order which could be files or boxes. 
I also put away and pulled boxes from assigned locations which weighed up to 50lbs.
I learned how to use the specialized computer program to the fullest of my abilities, as well as hand scanners and label printing machines.
I was very close with a few of my older co workers who were very supportive with my  wanting to learn and grow within the company.
I loved the job mostly for the independant working but as well how close of a team we were and always excelled as a team.
The hardest part of this job was having to put 50lbs + boxes away in very high parts of the warehouses.

Iron Mountain Incorporated is a reputable company in North America. Dealing with numerous confidential and classified documents sent from several companies, it was my responsibility to organize boxes in the warehouse according to our operating system. On an average eight hour day, i'd store around 800 boxes. These boxes weighed anywhere from twenty to sixty pounds, and no doubt all this lifting amongst three stories in our warehouse was extremely physically demanding. If no boxes were to be stored in a day, my other job in the company consisted of going through these paper documents, and scanning them in our system once they were requested back from the company, making sure we kept copy of the files. For the company's sake and privacy of others, I am never to disclose any information I have seen when employed for Iron Mountain. For the greater portion of the summer, I worked alone in the warehouse, I grew very tired easily and had no one to support me morally nor physically. It was very hard labour and I certainly did struggle at times but I had to stay mentally focused to get the job done and complete what was being asked of me. My manager, did not work in the warehouse, but several in times in the day he'd come check up on me, making sure everything was running smoothly, very good guy. Very small staff of four members, but we did work extremely hard and accomplished plenty during a day.

A tipical day starts with a morning team meeting where all concerns about the goals for that particular day are brought by the drivers, and clarified by the supervisor. While I worked at Iron Mountain, I learned about the importance of confidentiality and protection of the information. Also, working as a team is part of the learning. A daily part of the job is creating a good environment of interaction with co-workers as all the preparations to go on the road are done. Many customers with different personalities are waiting for you at all kind of companies. The daily duty of a "Mountanier" courier is to do deliveries and pickups of the items required by the customers and register them on the system, using a scaner software. It all need to be done in a timely manner. Driving through trafic and doing some lifting, might be the hardest part of the job. Finally, all picked up and/or returned items will return to base. I had a fun time while working hard. Having your breaks, making friends, and getting support from your team when is needed is also part of the job.

I really enjoyed my time here, which is part of the reason I was less than pleased about being laid off. The people I worked with were fantastic and we all vibed really well together. Management was the best I've ever experienced from an employer. If we brought up any safety concerns, lack of PPE, or potential materials that would aide us in our work, they were on it almost immediately. The pay was kind of not good- only a couple bucks above minimum wage with little to no room for advancement. They'd offer you a maximum 3% raise and didn't care what the inflation rate was. Temps and casual/contract staff didn't get raises, bonuses, sick time, or benefits. They laid me off with less than two weeks notice because they would rather waste money cycling through and re-training temps with their high turnover rate than hire on a trained contract worker and supply them with benefits and a raise. This seems to be a common issue as my fellow staff became rather peeved about the outcome of my time here.
They pretend to care about you as a member of their community until your contract runs out, then they'll toss you aside like yesterdays paper.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The camaraderie between you and your peers.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The large disconnect between leadership and staff. Constant organizational change and steadily increasing workloads create stress and the lead to cynicism and a lack of buy-in across the organization that rarely, if ever, is acknowledged or addressed by leadership.  None of it is malicious but is a real life example of the saying that"the road to heck is paved with good intentions".

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There is a disconnect between what the company aspires to be and the reality. Peer to peer things are supportive but like soldiers in the trenches rather than teammates winning the race.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Be prepared to start early and finish late but still not be caught up. Sooooo many useless meetings that could have been an email or group chat instead.

A typical shift would be 8:30am to 5:00am with 30 mins unpaid lunch. I would clock immediately once entering the building. I would then receive work orders to complete while checking my work e-mail for possible additional tasks. I would continue to do so until the tasks are complete on time and when the shift ends with occasional overtime. 

I learned the use of software programs Request and Safekeeper Plus. I learned further use of Outlook and MS Excel. 

Management wasn't the greatest. There was quite a turnover rate within the leadership and supervisor staff. Lack of consistency and objectivity. 

Workplace culture was great! Very fun and casual. The culture balanced out the workplace stress.

Hardest part of the job was the daily labour of lifting 50lbs at awkward heights in a tight, dirty, dusty environment with 3 floors and a quota.

The most enjoyable was the coworker atmosphere and the culture.

As a note, as I was a part-time worker, the star ratings of this particular company would probably be completely different coming from a full-time employee as they probably have more benefits, pay, etc.
A typical day at work would consist of coming in, and typing up orders all day. We would be timed on our typing speed everyday. We had to maintain a certain quota. It wasn't mandatory but more implied. Speed was essential.
In the beginning, I wasn't too happy with the job. It was nothing like I had imagined. I found it very boring and repetitive. I learned how to control my anxiety and come up with ways to start enjoying the job. My French also strengthened.
Management was excellent. Very friendly and understanding.
My co-workers were fine as well.
The hardest part of my job was in the beginning of my job, when I had to accept that the task will be the same all day long.
The most enjoyable part of the job were the people. They were really friendly.
