There is lots of potential for apprentices, to get logbooks completed, and climb the ladder to becoming licensed. However, you'll have to spend those years at a lower salary than the average aviation maintenance facility and struggle trying to make ends meet while working an exuberant amount of hours killing yourself for the benefit of the company. The employees on the floor are few and between, considering the amount of work at the facility, and most of which are fresh apprentices. On the plus side those who have been there for a long time are very knowledgeable and amazing people to learn from. Overall, the employees on the floor are good people and the facility is nice and safety is a great importance to the company. It's a decent place to work. 

It’s a good place to start as an apprentice or if you’re new to aviation. If you don’t have any other good options at the time. Pay is way below industry average. Overtime is expected ( if you’re not putting in overtime chances given to advance/ get log book tasks are minimal) and you’d have to do it anyways if you don’t like eating Mr. Noodles everyday for dinner and drinking its leftover broth for breakfast. Benefits are basic. It’s a bit of a drive out of town and no public transport options to the site. Good place to learn and start you will work with a lot of skilled and knowledgeable ACAs and mechanics. But leave before the place takes away your passion for aviation.

I worked at JD Aero for a couple of years. Left only to take a job closer to my home town.

Learned a lot at JD. Interesting work. Best schedule around, they really improved that over the couple years I was there, it was nice that they listened to their employees and gave out an awesome schedule. Good people and great customers. Always enjoyed my days there. Would recommend this as a place to work. They expect a lot out of you but what company shouldn't. Got experience that would have been hard to get so quickly at other places. Wish them the best!

Under staffed
Workers dont get along at all. Talk behind each other everytime. They don't tell you the issue, just emphasize badly with others.
They give you couple months working at cleaning interior and exterior parts before put you in right area.
Apprentices are treated badly and there isnt much help for proceeding with your log book everything is left to you instead of receiving the proper work. Then they wait you to have mistakes to let you leave for saving full time employee benefits after expanding probation period to another 3 more months


When it comes to delivering expert Heavy maintenance in a positive environment,under management that ACTUALLY cares equally about customer and staff, JD Aero is among the best i have seen. A modern, Young, work force means its not only a great place to gain experience but also to be a seasoned Engineer. I think the company is headed to great heights. Good time to join. All together an easy recommendation

Typical work day is 10 hour shift with a weekly rotation that allows for only ever working 3 days in a row (OT available if you want it). learned a lot about airplanes and maintenance.
mngment helps and comes out on floor. Involved in business.
team atmosphere, we all helped each other out during high pressure times.

great to be apart of an industry that didn't exist in the Soo years ago.

Basically a slave labour camp when I worked there. Worked 7 am to 5/7 pm, two weeks straight with one day off, repeat. All workers are on contract. Management known for being vague when describing the contract. As a young worker I signed on for much less per hour than thought after deductions not normally applied for employees.

JD Aero was a great opportunity. The management was amazing. They provided me all the training I needed to be effective at my job. I love the team I work with and it is a great environment.

JD Aero is a great place to work. You get to work independently and as a team. Lots of opportunities for learning and growth. Wages are fair and do include Christmas bonuses and increases every year.

Just started three weeks ago. Great boss, coworkers, etc. They have workers from all over the world. Very clean, efficient work place. Facilities are amazing. 3 lunchroom areas. Foosball!
