I applied for a position within this organization because I once had a home-support worker through them, and they were amazing with my family. I wanted to be apart of an organization that I could also contribute my skills too. Due to my skill set I was offered to go into work immediately without the official training except for a couple modules done at the office.

The work and position was awesome, and was exactly what I expected. The co-workers I met and worked with were also awesome.
But tragedy struck my family, and a family member died. Due to this, I missed my training even though I had direct communication with the company and even though I had already worked at several locations. I was told not to worry, and to take all the time I needed to grieve. I did this for a couple days. I emailed the office when I was ready to come back (the following week), and was told I would get my schedule. I was then told through email that it was discussed that I would need to do the training prior to working, which would be in another week. I was a little taken aback, as this also meant I wouldn't be paid with no shifts worked. I still took it in stride, and prepared for the training. When training came up, it was never communicated to me where the training was, or whether it was online or in person. I contacted the office again, and heard nothing until the next day, late in the afternoon. And to my surprise, the response I received was my termination letter. The reason? I was still in probation, and I was not a good fit. I asked what I could have done differently, and was told I couldn't have done anything differently. I was also told that they didn't have to tell me anything else. I was horrified! With the pandemic going on, and the death of a family member, I didn't expect this treatment at all.

Many of the staff I came across complained about how they were treated, and how they were stuck in positions and never moved up. This company is not run efficiently or ethically. It is a shame, as I thought much highly of it prior to becoming employed with them.

I unfortunately did not have a good experience at this organization, and I know many others have not either. I would strongly recommend reading the reviews before accepting a position here. It may be a good first job and used as a stepping stone into the social services field.  Management is not supportive to staff and their work or personal needs and will more often penalize staff who are in need of time off for personal reasons. The ED is nowhere to be found most days, and quite often appears to not be unfamiliar with what programs and the youth actually need. Treats for staff are nice, but we need better work environments and pay instead. The pay is maybe the worst part of the job. It is below what the rest of the field pays so essentially you can work elsewhere doing the same thing, in a more supportive environment for better pay.  


Working at KHYS has taught me valuable work-related skills and has helped me grow. It has also broken me as a person. Senior management is toxic and there is a lot of clique-y behaviour amongst staff… if you don’t fit in, you will get pushed out. Cruel behaviour is considered acceptable from some, while others get reprimanded. Senior management is also quick to believe one side of the story while completely dismissing the other.

The pay is bad. Really bad. Especially once you consider the high stress environment every day. The benefits are good (if you receive them on time) but offer very little towards mental health support.

If you decide to work here,. Take care of yourself, and be wary of toxic management who won’t hesitate to twist the situation to benefit them.




This company is built on lies, false promises, toxicity, lack of respect towards the employees.. especially to those who have served long years of service. For someone who has been with the company for a long time, management and owner do not value their staff but treat them poorly. Management always thinks and sees themselves to be right and gets defensive when you give criticism. They’re fake and two faced, they don’t care about the people who do the work.. which are the staff on the floor taking care of the kids. Management is lazy, relies on staff to do their job but doesn’t give credibility towards the staff. Management bullies you into getting what they want.


This place is just dangerous for your mental health. There are  associates that run this house and you better hope that they like you because if they don't, you may as well just leave because you will never stand a chance of surviving in this workplace. There is a level of mean behavior I have never seen before at another workplace. If the associates don't like you, they will go all out to make you feel as uncomfortable and unsupported as possible until you break down and leave. You feel totally alone, it's horrible how they make you feel. I was genuinely afraid to come to work.  This house is horrifying.


Its very stressful place to work at the staff act like a gangs they want you out the supervisors are very unprofessional and has no experience anything you tell them they use it against you the staff gossip A lot and they cover for each other , very hard to get inside their bubble they tread kids very poorly . No wonder the company got 1.6 stars its actually a lot for them they should get zero . Don’t work there find somewhere else or stay home but definitely not KHYS and if you are a parent don’t senD your child there planning to quit soon cant take it anymore , they make me sick .


The clients were overall a pleasant group. Co-workers ranged from a very few dedicated and hard working people to mostly people who were only drawing a check and were very neglectful of client needs. Management very slow to remove proven violators, expected staff to be able to cover multiple shifts and work/home separation was unhealthy.

This job was bad, very bad. It felt like everyday I worked, I had to defend myself against management that relentlessly tried to control everything and dump as much as work as they could on the part timers. The residents were nice though but it was impossible to enjoy this job.
