KMC Mining

Work conditions - Very bad working conditions. If you are luckey to work in the shop (tent) you will have to work in high level of smoke and fumes from welding, gauging, and running equipment. There is no ventilation. But most times we work out doors next to the shop in the yard changing large components is rainy and extreme muddy conditions. With all of the graders around not one is avaiable to clear mud and snow from yard. Most water pools under the equipment, good rubber boots a must.

Tools and equiment - The tool cribe is deplorable and does not have the proper speciality tooling to complete the work. The tools that are remaining are in poorshape and dangerous. Service trucks are also in poor repair with the service bodies falling off. No heat in the winter no A/C in the summer.

Saftey- Tool box meeting preaches safety as the should, but once the coveralls are on you are expected to break all the rules. If your caught your fired. If you speak up your fired. If you get on any bodies bad side your fired. 
 
Union- Union members voted down the same agreement 3 times. After arbertration the agreement was forced upon us with no option to strike and fight for a fare deal. The union is in the companies pocket. Do not expect any real repersentaion they will only do whats best suits their own interests.




NO JOB IS BETTER THAN ANY JOB AT KMC

A typical work day is your on your own, sink or swim, its up to you to ask the right questions, find what you need to do the job, and don't depend on to much floor level supervision for solutions. You will learn more from the tradespeople on the floor then your leadership. I leaned how to do lots with nothing to work with, that's all I can say. KMC lower management very shady, different answers from all of them on all subjects, very poor communication between shifts. Workplace culture has improved from fearful to reasonable. Now they give you time for a sandwich at least. Hardest part of job is lack of tooling, very slow, un-prioritized training program, most supervision is less qualified then most mechanics on the floor. Best part of the job is 2 weeks off, and the employees there are great, but usually move on just like good management does.

By far the worst company I have ever worked for. Left the house at 6, got home at 9:30 but only got paid for 11.5 hours a day. Very rude and disrespectful employers. Had to call in to a hotline every morning and wait to hear your name to see if you were going into work. Didn't get called in for my 5 days, my 5 nights, then had 5 off, then still didn't get called in for the next 5 days. Finally I called in and the had changed the shift schedule to a 7 & 7 (didn't inform me) and they were on days off already. So I had to wait another 7 days to even speak to my foreman to ask for a lay off. When I finally did get to talk to him he said "oh well I guess". I didn't work for over 20 days, and you guess you'll give me a layoff? So unorganized and they really don't care about their employees well being. Also, if that doesn't sound bad enough.. I was hired as an excavator operator and spent most of my time sitting in a pickup spotting haul trucks. When I was operating, the equipment was garbage and/or broken almost 50% of the time.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
25 % of supervisors have no training in employee relations/management leading to no accountability by supervision. However my Supervisor was the best supervisor I have ever worked for in my 40 years in the work force .

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
For the most part the culture was everybody for themselves , which made for stressful work environment, but I felt upper management was trying hard to change this culture in the company

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I worked for a small department with an excellent supervisor so for me it was a pleasant environment and stress free.

Typical work day rain or shine. Would be changing up to one minimum to six earth movers tires with proper paper work complete and inspection on all hard wear. Mining in the oil field was a new and exciting experience. my co-workers made the days go by faster then normal. Management had a lot of opinions and forced many safety  concerns on the daily, which would not interfere but put a delay on how much and how quickly any job would take. I've develop into a strong team player and work very clean. The most enjoyable part about my job is always lunch and the end of the day. some have said that i was the best part of they day because they don't have to stress when am on shift.

KMC mining was always good to me and gave me opportunity to excel and move up with the company when it came to operating equipment. The management was always there to help me if i need it and in a professional manner. 
I learned a lot from other operators which made me a better operator myself. The most enjoyable part of my job was when i got sent to do small projects in different towns. It challenged my abilities in a lot of different ways. The hardest part of the job that i had to get used to was working night shifts. I grew up logging for most of my life so night shift wasnt an issue but all i needed was time to get used to it.All in all i would recommend KMC to anyone wanting to start a career in mining.

KMC had high safety standards. A typical day at work was on a grader and also a haul truck. My fellow grader operators were very helpful in teaching and assisting me in performing my job. Our management with KMC were very professional and helpful with any questions that arise. We had lots of new employees with KMC, so the radio communication was very important. Our management was very helpful when we were sent to new areas of the mine. If a tour was needed, they were right there to help. I think that the hardest part of the job is when we were on standby when I was operating a haul truck. Which was very seldom. The most enjoyable part of the job was the communication and how we all worked together to complete the task at hand.

They had the highest pay in the industry for a certain job.

Upper management was terrible at keeping the company organized in any department. The lack of communication was terrible

Work environment was good and the culture was very diverse and for the most part enjoyable 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Camp to work on bus try and fix equipment with lack of parts have supervision make questionable decisions band aid repairs then back on the bus to camp

Great Team, treated with respect, fair pay, great benefits.  Overall, great company to work for. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I did not find my job stressful. I did my work and enjoyed it.

Friendly and Safe Environment. Great Supervisors and Team members. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hour shift commencing at 7 am to 7 pm. Variety of task including maintenance of buiildings, construction demobilizing, operating some machinery.  I enjoyed the variety of tasks.
