Ka Ni Kanichihk

This community organization has the opportunity to be amazing, it assists many community members. The org has had MANY skilled, educated employees, but after seeing the disorganized, and unethical management and supervisory structure which doesnt follow basic labor laws, or safe work practices, (this is cloaked under other 'PERKS' )- but when qualified staff indicate opposition to shady policies the management team does what they can to remove the 'problem' employee. Poor support, communication and lack of advancement. Sure there are plenty of cultural opportunities, and elder support, however, it is difficult to get specific expectations on paper, and a lot of internal gossip.

Being a part of the team at Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. has taught me the value of being a constructive team member. While employed I have learned many useful skills such as working with youth, creating, developing, and presenting work shops and school presentations. The management is always looking for positive results and helping the workers grow as a team and as an individual person. Co-workers there are warming and welcoming. They will help when ever possible if you find yourself stuck with a problem or situation but allow you to fix the problem yourself. The hardest part of the job was meeting the mandate of the curriculum to the last letter. The best part of the job was helping youth and developing youth to deliver individual presentations at various schools.

New ED is determined to run the organization into the ground. Constant bullying, lying, and mismanagement of funds.

If you've heard good things about working here, it was either from before 2025 or from one of the Ed's cronies.
The budgets don't line up, people are constantly on stress leave, and none of the management has any idea what they're doing. They were all friends of the new ED who were handed their jobs without the needed experience. 



They gave me covid, didn’t tell me, infected my whole family, did not provide appropriate PPE, I injured myself on the job, they didn’t care. Told me I had interpersonal problems… because they don’t like honesty or being held accountable for their actions. They are very comfortable preaching over others tho.

a typical day at kani would be answering phones filing and dealing with day to day tasks such as faxing, mailing, emailing, answering phones, ect.. the hardest part of the job was having to learn to do things on my own. the most enjoyable part of this job was that the people there are great to get along with easy to talk to. please keep in mind that this is not a paying job. this is a work practicum placement that i have done for my college certificate.

The best part was two of my colleagues I worked with.

The fact that there is no leadership or consistency 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Hostile and aggressive with a lot of lateral violence and bigotry 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very stressful and a lot of negative energy

I enjoyed working with Ka Ni Kanichik because this was my first Facilitating job, I was able to explore and gain a new experience in this field. Which I really loved and enjoyed being able to get a long with the girls and able to cook. Being a facilitator came naturally to me and I'd love to try this out again sometime, but would need more training in.

This company is great to the community,  but not to the staff. Huge turnaround and if you have depression, disability or take time off due to an injury they find ways to make you feel shame and get rid of you. Watch your back! 

I'm a task oriented person and while Ka Ni Kanichihk was a positive place with a very laid-back atmosphere, it is not for a person that likes to remain busy. Lots of the work load is based on participant interaction which cannot always be guaranteed. Culturally motivated and a lot of chances to experience culture and education.

This organization is a very pleasant place to work. The management and staff are helpful, gracious and welcoming.  I would recommend this organization to anyone who is looking for work in a community based company, who are accommodating to the staff, clients as well as the general public.
