A typical day is having no idea what you’re doing as they constantly change their minds about how they want things done. They pay well as that's the only way they're able to keep employees. This workplace is extremely toxic and lacking professionalism. They don't train you, they expect you to know things without actually communicating to you about what those things are, or what their vision is. 

Management is highly unqualified, they have no structure, you're constantly pulled multiple directions because they don't know what they're doing. You do things one way, then another boss says no do it this way. But either way.. even if you're doing it right, they'll say it's wrong.

The free lunches and happy hour are just to mask the extreme dysfunction.

The managers are quick to reprimand you if you even try to communicate with a coworker regarding  work, if they’re of the opposite gender. 
Due to their own insecurities and guilt.

You will try to communicate issues with management and ask for help, just to get shut down and treated extremely poorly.

You cannot have any fun or enjoy working there. It's been the most toxic environment I've ever worked in and wouldn't wish this experience upon anyone.

It’s embarrassing to have even worked here since they have such a poor reputation. 

The most enjoyable part was the friendships formed with fellow employees. 

They hire you for the position you applied for and then move you into another position that they are unable to fill in the company. Then if you don't do well in it (because it is not your scope), they let you go or berate you. Staff turnover is uncredible and something that is very far from a normal amount. They sign you onto LOA, then stop paying it once you have settled in and left your previous job. Management is inexperienced and does not care about the employees or their wellbeing at all. It’s a very tense and unfriendly environment. There is zero chance of moving up in the company as they are very suspicious of their employees and literally think you are stealing their proprietary property and give it away to the competition -which is ridiculous of course - but it is the kind of daily drama you must deal with. I do not recommend working for them as it was such a terrible experience for me and for so ay others.

The best part of working here is the supportive team environment and strong management. The company values professionalism, safety, and quality work, and employees are given opportunities to grow and improve their skills. Overall, it is a stable and respectful workplace.

The job can be fast-paced at times, especially when working on multiple projects or tight deadlines, but this also helps develop strong time-management and problem-solving skills.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is professional, supportive, and team-oriented. Management is approachable, safety is taken seriously, and employees are treated with respect. Communication is clear, and teamwork is encouraged.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day includes reviewing daily tasks, coordinating with the team, working on active projects, and ensuring work is completed safely and accurately. Each day is productive and involves problem-solving and teamwork.

Kan-Arm Contracting is a fast-paced company in the drilling and blasting industry, so the day-to-day work can change quickly depending on project needs. In my opinion, that is likely where some past reviewers may have struggled. This is not the type of workplace where everything is always predictable, but management is straightforward about expectations and works to provide employees with the support and assistance they need.

For someone who is willing to work hard, be part of the team, and adapt to changing priorities, Kan-Arm is a place where that effort is recognized and rewarded. You are not treated like just another number. The company makes a genuine effort to create a positive workplace culture, including monthly lunches, stocked fridges for employees, and involvement in many local events and festivities throughout the Fraser Valley.

Overall, Kan-Arm is a strong workplace for people who are motivated, team-oriented, and comfortable working in a dynamic industry.

They don't appreciate anyone they hire for more than a month or so. Then it becomes very apparent you are a burden to them. They expect everyone to bend over backwards for them, and in turn you get comments like 'shake your head', 'come on, use some discernment' 'that's MY proprietary property' etc etc. Its not worth the promises they give - they don't follow through. They say things like 'let us know what we can do better' and then IF you dare to tell them, they shoot you down that  instant and do the exact opposite of what you said. Its very strange and surreal. Right down to how to set up your own work area. They go through your desk in the off hours. Its not uncommon to come in, in the morning and have your sticky notes thrown out, or your drawers rifled through. 

Shocking turnover rates and for good reason. Management & Owner seek to pit you against coworkers, make you feel incompetent, have no idea what they’re doing, change their minds on a dime and not tell you, intimidate you & overload you with useless paperwork and no direction just to name a few. No amount of money is worth this work environment. Every terrible rumour is true and doesn’t even scratch the surface. Genuinely felt as though management tried to make everyone have nervous breakdowns. They spend more time being petty and creating stress than working. You will need therapy to unpack the physiological warfare you deal with every day.

I love where I work! I like that every day is different and challenging. I find that management expects what they should expect show up on time to work and do the best job you can.

It sometimes can be a very fast-paced environment, so that can be a little stressful at times. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I find that management is very understanding when time off is needed and co-workers and management do everything they can to support each other.

This is hard to describe because it is that bizarre. You'll be wooed in at first. But it doesn't take long for the narcissism and passive aggression from management to begin. It is an extremely disorganized company. You will never be good at your job because you never know what it is you are actually supposed to do. Asking any questions for clarity just adds to the confusion. And now you are labelled incompetent. Management literally gets joy out of degrading, not just you, but everyone. It’s not the fact of being able to handle it, it's that anyone with any self-worth wouldn't put up with it. So just don’t.  

Days are always busy and full so you need to be someone who likes a fast pace but co-workers are supportive and everyone works as a team. 
Fridays have social time and they always celebrate worker birthdays, milestones and other achievements with the staff which is great. Management are generous with lunches, field trips to sites and other group activities as well as good pay and bonuses. Office is busy but laid back with good music always playing and everyone gets along well.

Management sees beyond your resume to your potential and provides the opportunities to grow. They care about their employees and have created a positive workplace where there is no drama, and teamwork is a reality. I look forward to going to work and doing my best to help the company succeed - part of that is my work ethic, and part is because I feel valued and appreciated, so gratitude to work for great people in a good environment, with excellent wages, makes going to work easy and enjoyable. I definitely recommend working at Kan-Arm Contracting.
