This business was absolutely horrible to work with in the 7 months I was with them. Not only are you expected to drop everything for them at any time (calling to take a shift an hour before it starts, then if you say no you are ridiculed and bullied by management for the next month)
All they do is hire young teens for their SUPERVISORS which just sit in the back on their phones all the time.
Scheduled breaks aren’t a thing. Forget about trying to go to the bathroom during a lull because you’ll be screamed at by the general manager. Forget about that 30 minute break because your teen supervisors will say you only get 10 for a 9hour shift! No 15-min breaks either!
This job made me hate my life and when I was faced with a dire family emergency, I was bullied for MONTHS by the GENERAL MANAGER because I had to fly out of the province.
I also ended up having a health emergency where I needed to go to the hospital and despite having MULTIPLE doctors notes and being hooked up to a 24/7 heart monitor, the manager asked if I was lying to get out of work.  Complete disregard to everyone and everything, and not a professional run business at ALL.
The only “good” thing is that you get a free treat every night after work, which I believe is to only entice kids to staying at that horrible place.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Free ice cream... I guess?????

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Wildly disorganized and chaotic. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It seemed super positive and encouraging at the beginning but slowly did a complete 180, with a lot of red flags in hindsight. Every day of my process from initial interview to eventual departure was one headache after another. I found a lot of the optimism and "family values" preached about weren't really backed up when those values were tested.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I couldn't even tell you because I didn't know what was happening one day to the next. First I was going to do my training in Victoria, then it was the mainland north of Vancouver, then it was in Kelowna and eventually they landed on sending me to Ontario for a week. Due to disorganization on their end, that week needed to be extended to two weeks. I found out I'd be flying to Ontario like a few days ahead of time and found out I'd be staying another week less than 24 hours ahead of time - each week spent 4 hours away from eachother across the province (Huntsville & Burlington). They made me pay for the rental and hotel on my card too even though they said they wouldnt (they did reimburse me, eventually).

I worked at the Newmarket location for a year and a half a few years ago and had a poor experience. I would constantly be scheduled on days I did not have available, they would often schedule me for days I booked off, and did not follow the hours I asked for. Not sure if they still do this, but a lot of shifts will be « on call ». You do not get paid for being on call even though it means that you cannot make any plans that day because you’re expected to drop everything and come in if you’re called. For an ice cream store I find this on call system ridiculous. The management is also not nice to the supervisors as they are constantly negative about their performance and rarely provide positive feedback. On closing shifts I would often stay for a ridiculous amount of time - up to 2 hours during the summer. When I had school the next day this was an awful inconvenience. This store also does quite a lot of young hires who have absolutely zero work ethic. I often had to pick up their dead weight which is part of the reason for such long closes. I will say, however, it was quite a simple job as you only need to scoop ice cream and serve a drive thru, but this is one of the only positives.

Management and customers are great, but other employees are not. Toxic, gossip-filled place. Employees are not allowed to miss shifts due to illness (legitimate chance of being fired if you get sick). Layoffs very common due to the seasonal nature of the product. Hours completely unpredictable (might have 30 one week and none the next). Employees commonly sent home early or have shifts cancelled if the weather is sub-optimal for ice cream purchases. Little to no training provided. All around a complete mess due to poor communication of expectations.

I really don't recommend working here unless you are desperate, and even then I hesitate. Really not suitable except maybe as a first job in high school (most employees, including supervisors, are in this age range -- a high school student who sticks around can easily become a supervisor here, which is a solid first work experience on a resume).

Worst experience of my life. Literally broke me. But I will say the staff were my joy. To be honest some of the upper management are really, honest, decent,  good people that I thought highly of!! 
It’s heartbreaking that sadly some upper management ruin and break good people down to the point they don’t even recognize themselves anymore…. (all secretly done too) .Work place trauma is an actual thing …. it’s extremely difficult to go through! 
        Also sad nobody listens … it’s all one sided. There are two sides to every story …. But with them there’s only one side … forget how hard you work, or your loyalty or dedication… forgot the results you achieve….they will take the side of upper management every time, before some lower class employee … they won’t even ask for your version of events….
disheartening and extremely depressing situation. Definitely traumatizing… 

The workplace here can be really fun as it is all teens who work here. You'll definitely make a lot of friends here however some can be pretty immature + frustrating to work with. I'd say this is a good job to work at for a first job/highschool job. However it is extremely fast paced due to popularity in the summer/the drive thru. It can be stressful at times, and you for sure will have a sore wrist if you are working here during the summer. Job can be kinda demanding, repetitive, and expectations can also be unclear at times. Management has been kinda lacking lately as well. If u want to work a lot you will get tons of shifts here up until the weather gets colder. A typical day will consist of greeting and scooping ice cream/making milkshakes for customers, restocking the freezer/fridge, cleaning surfaces, restocking napkins, straws, spoons, taking drive thru orders, taking out garbage, tub refills, cashing out customers. 

As an outbound selector job was relatively easy, heavier in the cooler with milk , freezer was lighter if you didn't mind the cold, outbound supervisor is awesome,  but... lots of seasonal young workers, or immature drama filled teenagers , yet they press that they hire A+ family oriented employees and there was maybe 1 employee out of 10 that was under that statistic , if you don't mind giving up a weekend day everyweek and having split off days then the shift won't bother you but it sucks. As a outbound selector your shift starts at different times depending on the day of the week and with no end time other then when the work is done we're done. Also the pay is disgustingly low, considering this is no small company,  it's a multi million dollar dairy business and they pay fast food rates. Think before you rely on a good paycheck 

Having worked here for the past few years you can see the transformation that is going on around you. The company is 84+ years in the making and the vibe of this organization is exciting.  Everyone that has been brought in has added to the team and the energy and overall excitement is contagious.  Amazing culture based on core values and "doing the right thing" vs. just doing things right.  The Family has really endorsed a foucs on employees and making this the premier place to work in the Kawartha Lakes.  As they say, working here is not just a job...its' a "journey"!!! :)

This job was a solid way to gain some hands-on experience, especially if you’re new to the working world. The tasks were generally manageable, though things definitely ramped up during the summer months. I got along well with most of my coworkers and supervisors—they were friendly and easy to work with.

However, since many employees were on the younger side, there were moments of immaturity and occasional drama, which sometimes made the environment feel a bit like high school. It was also clear that the manager had favorites, leading to noticeable differences in how people were treated. If you weren’t in their good books, it wasn’t uncommon to hear them speaking negatively about you, which contributed to a somewhat toxic atmosphere.

This is my first job where I look forward to coming in everyday; literally never had a "bad day". My coworkers are hilarious, easy to get along with, we treat each other with respect and we aren't afraid of rolling up our sleeves and working hard to get the job done! Management truly wants the best for their employees and work diligently to ensure there is a positive workplace culture built on our five values that guide us in all our decision making. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing I am making a difference everyday as we grow as a company.
