I was a salaried manager. The salary was actually quite fair if it would have been a typical 40 hour week. I rarely had a 40 hour week. As a manager, it was my job to cover when staff called in sick or did not show. I was head of the culinary so this happened quite a bit. I was told I could take time in lieu for additional shifts. The chance to take any time off was rare. When I left, I submitted the hours/days owed to me and they were refused. I was told that I was not given permission to exceed my 40 hours. My question to the owner was, “how would the residents have eaten if I did not work?”
His answer was that it did not matter. I had nothing in writing giving me permission. There were two people hired to do the job I did.
The rest of the job was amazing. Beautiful residents, amazing team and great camaraderie between departments. Every department was willing to pitch in to get the job done when needed. At least that is how it was when I was there with 3 other department managers that have also left.

I worked at KHRL for about a 1.5 years. During this time I was "strongly encouraged" to leave school early every day as a high school student. Working 10 hour days, with no breaks, not even a mandatory 30 minute lunch break. The only time I was able to take a break was if I pushed myself to the breaking point everyday just so I could sit down for 10 minutes.
Every day was overtime with no additional compensation, because it was viewed as "we didn't work hard enough to leave on time" while in reality we we're desperately understaffed, with no support systems in place. 
Management encouraged and created drama among the team, pinning us against one another.
We had constant management changes, I had 4 over the course of my employment.
The only good thing about this job were the residents, who were complete angels.

Residents are lovely, poor management. 
If you love:
- Unreliable schedules (they do not respect worker seniority & you're subjected to constant last minute schedule changes)
- Unreliable income (we have constant payroll issues)
- Union Busting
- Lack of training
- Being demanded to do the work of multiple different roles under the guise of 'being a good team player' with no additional compensation
- Constantly being hounded to cover shifts
(list goes on...) then this is the perfect place for you. 

Management expects the world from you but are silent on matters that are negatively impacting employees and residents (fair wages, proper staffing, proper training infrastructure, etc).


I was at kawartha for over 2 year s , and like every job you have ur gossip you can ignore or indulge it’s your choice ! You have a chance to be a part of a great  team on the floor.  My co workers were amazing. My time there helped me realize the steps i have to take in becoming what i would choose as a retirement plan. It’s not a job for the lazy or someone who is always sick and filled with excuses! If you have the teams back they also have yours. If it was not for management and pay it would be 5 stars but if you are a real psw and got into it for the rite reasons, i understand we all need to make a living wage but you also have to work the hours.

Pros:
- Free parking 
- Free meals
- Lovely residents 
- Beautiful facility

Cons:
- Poor staffing levels
- Demanding unrealistic workload
- Staff turnover like no place I've ever seen
- Poor leadership
- Poor training 
- Owner has no healthcare background and doesn't understand what is needed to run a facility. Cutting corners financially on very cruital elements to resident care. 

What happened behind the scenes was more then worry-some. I had trouble sleeping at night.

They get a thrill out of treating employees terribly. Write false information regarding salaries on Indeed. Very stressful place to work, there were days I felt physically ill thinking about going to work there. Upper management and the owners try to micromanage but refuse to provide actual support to their employees. I wouldn’t recommend working here to my worst enemy. There is a high turnover of management, which is a red flag on its own. Run, don’t walk away from this place.

Short staffed every day, all departments 
Residents move out as much as staff members quit
You should have very good stress management skills, be very good at emotional regulation and have good work life balance. If not this place will make you sick mentally and physically. 
Although unhappy, the residents are the most wonderful part about this Home. They are such a beautiful group of people, it’s hard not to become attached to them. 

So many things I could rant but here's a few..this place is the WORST you could work at. The place is clicky, they expect you to pick up for all the slack of other workers and you don't get compansated for it  nor any respect at all for the job you actually do. The managers are horrible..  If management doesn't like you or you try to fight back their stupid expectations..they find a way to get rid of you. Don't waste your time

I waa excited to start there and though i finally fohnd the boss ive always wanted and the morning cook turned into a great friend and made me feel very comfortable but then everything turned when a new director cam in and then i was always on egg shells, watching your back and no one talks to you and if they do they just talk about you behind your back and report you

Underpaid, overworked, inadequate training, horrible management. I frequently went home feeling stressed and depressed (mind you night shift can do this to you). Overall, it was not worth the low pay (this is evident in the high turnover rate), there are many other jobs in Peterborough that pay fairly and treat their employees well.
