Kenworth Truck Centres

When I first started working there, they made it seem like this was an exciting fun place to work and emphasized all the training you'll get to kick start your 310T license.

I quickly realized after the first week of training that you're just thrown into the wolves with barely anybody having the time of day to train apprentices because management hounds them at how many hours it takes to get a job done. 

Job gets pressured to be done quickly, then the truck comes back because the job had to be rushed. Happens every day because the service debt and managers over promise to the customer so their fleet buys more trucks.

Shop environment had old and dirty equipment for a "dealership" and politics with management (from foremen to managers to upper managers) make it very difficult to enjoy coming into work. They'll take any chance they get to write up techs to cover their own behinds, which results in VERY high turnover rate. 

I haven't gotten a raise in the entire 2 years working there (not even a basic cost of living increase) which they justify by giving those who ask for raises a "negative performance review" to justify not paying us more.

In the end, I barely gained any new experience, was jumped around different departments (PDI, paclease, retail) whenever they needed to fill a spot after someone quits or gets fired and wasted 2 years of my life barely making any money in the process. Only select few veteran techs get special treatment there because they have years and years of experience to make service whatever profit they can. 

This only scratches the surface, I could go on and on. If you're an apprentice trying to earn their 310T license STAY AWAY FROM DEALERSHIPS ESPECIALLY KTC! They only care about the bottom line and you'll have to spend every second making sure you cover your own rear to not get thrown under the bus. 

You're better off working for a private fleet, or a leasing company like Penske or Ryder. At least they'll have the time to train you and pay you better than a couple bucks above minimum wage. Even licensed techs got underpaid here. 

Management demonstrates no support and no respect toward newly hired technicians. During conversations, the manager often avoids direct engagement and appears distracted, which discourages open communication. Feedback is predominantly negative, with no recognition or encouragement provided.
Although training was promised, no clear or fair path is defined. Technicians are frequently rushed to complete tasks regardless of prior experience, with minimal guidance or support.
The shop experiences extremely high turnover, creating a revolving-door environment. Many employees resign without notice due to low morale and disappointment, while others are terminated without being given a fair opportunity to succeed. Long-tenured technicians are treated differently, often choosing preferred tasks and assigning less desirable work to newer staff, who are then held accountable if issues arise.
Additionally, the shop lacks essential tools and resources and does not operate at the standard typically expected of a dealership.

A typical day at work requires me to do whatever any different department requests of me; whether it be clerical, filing, payroll, or anything administration-related. One day I could be working exclusively for the Service Dept., while another day primarily focused on the Sales Dept. I worked with a diverse and interesting hodgepodge of people with different methods of conducting business, while keeping it fun and all the while learning and progressing. While I can't think of anything that really sticks out as being "hard"; I will say that Mondays were a little on the stressful side, as I was responsible for payroll for the Service Dept., which was time sensitive, while still conducting the every day duties that were required of me. I firmly believe that it's the people who you work with that make the job more enjoyable or more difficult. In this specific case, the people were amazing, and I enjoyed working with them day to day.

My experience with this company was mixed overall. It’s not the best place I’ve worked at, but it’s also not the worst. The team was generally friendly, and the work environment was manageable, though communication could have been better at times. I was completely new to the field when I started, so I expected a bit more hands-on training and guidance. Unfortunately, the training process wasn’t very structured — most of what I learned came from observing others or figuring things out on my own. While that helped me develop independence, it did make the first few months more stressful than necessary. Management could definitely improve by offering clearer onboarding and more support for new employees. On the positive side, I did gain valuable experience and learned a lot through trial and error. Overall, a decent workplace, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

A typical day at work was well-organized and fairly busy, with a balance between individual tasks and teamwork. I learned how to manage time effectively, improve communication skills, and handle responsibilities efficiently under pressure.
Management was supportive and approachable, always open to feedback and willing to help when needed. The workplace culture was positive, inclusive, and motivating — everyone worked together to meet goals and maintain a friendly environment.
The hardest part of the job was handling multiple tasks during peak hours, which required focus and good time management. However, this also helped me grow professionally. The most enjoyable part of the job was collaborating with my coworkers and seeing the direct results of our teamwork and effort.

KTC has potential and provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the truck parts and service industry. The job can be dynamic, helping to develop customer communication and technical skills.
However, internal organization could be improved — especially coordination between departments and communication with employees. The workplace is not always well-maintained, and there is a noticeable lack of team spirit. Overall, it’s a place where you can gain some experience if you are patient and able to work independently.

Management is completely out of touch. 
A mine field of egos that do not tolerate suggestions or ideas for improvement in any way. 
No possible advancement.
Most employees are there to pass time and take any excuse to not do something. Constantly rushing to get work done because no one does anything proactively.
Backstabbing capital of Ontario. Say nothing to anyone. 

At Kenworth Truck Centres, they have a work-life balance and truly believe in supporting their employees so that they excel. My manager is the best leader I have ever had. He has trained me with alot of patience and in the best way possible. I couldn’t wish for more. Thanks to Kenworth Truck Centres for giving me this opportunity!!!

Overall a great place to work. All departments worked together for the customer. Shop atmosphere was great. Good bunch of well trained work associates. Management supported the shop. We had fun in our work element.  Good mix of challenging jobs which feed your desire to learn. Company supplied training on a regular basis.

if i would have done it all over again i would have demanded straight days from the beginning. They would hire guys for days instead of letting the employees have a chance for straight days. But still good place to work for if you were looking to make money and learn about the Kenworth product..
