 Very disappointed with the onboarding process and totally caught off guard at the expectations that were not detailed in the posting or during the interview. Be prepared to avail yourself both on schedule and off. Training is on your own time with no compensation until after you complete your probationary time - not mentioned until after your hired. Be prepared to furnish your SIN AND Drivers Licence for your personnel record. Be prepared to get a Vulnerable Sector Check, paid by you to find that it wasn't necessary. And out of pocket expense. Be prepared to submit and pay for 2 TB Tests. Not mentioned in the job ad - but Covid testing was. 

The people I was supporting were my inspiration to go to work every day. I learned from them to be patient, to care, to help, to be there for each person,  to value every moment of our lives. 
I management my job with love, loyalty, ethics, punctuality , providing good care and to be a valuable team member.
The hardest part of the job was to leave the people I use to support.
The most enjoyable part of the job was to listening to each person, to be able to help them when they need or ask me and I learned too much from every person.
I enjoyed  the opportunity to work with people with different nationalities, languages, ideas, etc. It was excelente opportunity for me.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I had a great experience doing my placement here. Great team working around the clock to make life comfortable for Residents.

Working with residents with Dementia but plan of care is always towards meeting their needs.

There's inclusiveness and diversity with one goal - creating a conducive work environment for staff to meet the needs of the residents and their families and make them comfortable. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get to work on time. Follow the plan of care and provide activities of daily living including emotional and psychological care.

The opportunity and potential for this home to be successful are their, but a stubborn refusal to change old ways and the way it has always been is what is holding it back. I have never worked any other place before this one, where the managers do not approach the work as a team. Accountability is lacking in a major away and this must change. Very difficult to get things done because if it costs too much $ you will get a flat no. This home is the stereotypical privately owned facility, where it is there way or the highway. The residents and staff deserve far better then what they are forced to settle for. Sooner or later everything will come to the surface.

fun work place with supportive management;  not all about the numbers but how you personally grow and develop. Decent amount of red tape and politics, but this is expected of a big company.  The most enjoyable part of my job was working alongside my colleagues and learning something new everyday. there were times where there would be some friction or a disagreement between colleagues,  but it was always handled in a mature and professional manner.

Home like environment . Staff support each other. Work life balance environment

It’s small home so you are responsible doing most of things

Healthy and positive  work environment. Great mentorship and orientation process to support new staff

Staff able to manage the workload by having great orientation process

The experience at this home always tethers between pleasant and stressful, with a beautiful home like environment, friendly and helpful staff, wonderful and happy residents while dealing with often stubborn and ignorant management and unrealistic work expectations. Certain times can feel like whiplash, wondering ‘why am I still here’ and ‘how can I leave these wonderful people’. All in all good for experience and providing a sense of purpose but not good for long term health of self. 

The maintenance department was still in disarray as a few months prior the heating boilers (2) had broken down, the home was evacuated as there was no heat. Lots of things were on the back burner as everyone scrambled to get things back in order. I had to do a lot of work to get the confidence back in the workers in housekeeping and maintenance. The owner had too much on her plate and thus it was a tough place to work in.

Worked there for 2 yrs before moving to another city and really miss it after working in other homes.  Friendly management who were really interested in you as a person as well as an employee.  Tons of opportunity to learn if you are interested in advancing you skills.  Staff generally really supportive of each other.
