*   multidisciplinary teamwork was productive and positive to both patient care & staff

*   independant practice was supported within their "program management model"

*   social work collegial support was strong

*   discipline lead demonstrated open favorites among social workers.   she was alowed to act as a manager wich violates the consultative role the position is designed.   I was subsequently transfered to a medical program that all social workers knew required 2 social workers but employed only 1 - discharge planning was chronically delayed due to work overload, hence patient beds were occupied without medical need

*   confidentiality is near impossible when interfacing with patients due to roomates

*   bullying was utilized as common practice toward social workers not favored by the discipline lead. outright yelling & treatening occured behind her closed door on a regular basis when I fell from being one of her 'favorites'. this occurred because I eventually had to report her best friend, a longtime cancer progrm nurse, to our program manager when she would not cease her interference with treatment team treatment plans.

*   the union stewart where I made formal grievances while bullying was happening was a socail worker very good friends with the social work discipline lead - the process of grievances never moved forward during the last 2 months I worked at the hospital 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing. Compass treats staff with no respect in violation of hospital policy. Unfortunately I couldn't give no star but the one positive was meeting lonely patients. Nurses and Doctors that work for the hospital were great. Above and beyond people. Unfortunately the private company from England that employs over half of the hospital hire incompetent management and don't address problem. They just sweep everything under the carpet to keep their jobs. They blame workers for problems to fire the ones that stand up for themselves 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with poor management. They were out of touch with the operation and report to a private company that operates hospitals in many provinces that is from England. They are stealing money from our provincial governments and citizens 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very tense, poor morale, no training and so micromanaged 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get messy, filthy equipment ready to cart all over the hospital.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Money is good. But that is about it. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The people you work with. They are there for themselves and the money, they are not there for patient focussed care. The clocks on the floors are terrible and the patients are discouraged from reaching out to patient relations for assistance if they are being treated poorly or are not getting the proper.l care they deserve. Patients are shoved out the door without the proper education to continue with their care. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. Very very toxic. Don’t stick up for your patients, otherwise the other nurses will work against you. They want easy, not right or fair. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
This depends on the areas you work in. But floor nursing is hectic and stressful. Filled with PT, OT, MDs and and other acronym that may want to do something with your patient, usually when the nurse is trying to do patient care. There are no set schedules and support staff show up at any given time, even during patient meals.

Checked personal and cultural food preferences of individuals.  Coordinated meal orders, including assistance with food choice and portion size. Provided assistance with set-up and positioning at mealtimes.  Supervised the consumption of nutritional supplements. Collected information to aid nutritional assessment including nutritional risk screening, food record charts, weights and other anthropometric measures. Supported the availability and use of appropriate feeding aids as prescribed by the Occupational Therapist. Consulted with all disciplines of the dietetic team about the management plan for patients. Communicated with dietitians about role and data collection, as required. Made sure patients were happy with their select meal choices.

You had to be very organized to get the work done. You always had to be professional and pleasant. Most days that was easy as the volunteers were wonderful to work with and hospital staff were great people. You had to be understanding and compassionate at all times as you never knew why people were there or how there day was going or what they had to deal with. You had to work well under pressure because it could get very busy and people (doctors, nurses etc.) could be on a time limit. You had to be able to multi task as everything happens at once.

I can only speak for my specific area, but toxic is an understatement. Management clueless and only out to promote themselves.

It's an environment of covering-your-butt and trying to stay afloat in a sea of relentless work thrown at you (after all, not enough staff to do everything). 

Oh, and then management will throw "high priority" nonsense tasks at you requiring you to drop real work that benefits patient care... a great way for them to remind you that they're still the boss. 

It's a shame. It's truly beneficial to work with patients and make a difference in their lives, but the bureaucracy is enough to make you smash your head through the monitor. 

If this sounds desirable, go ahead and apply. Otherwise, consider Walmart/McDonald's/Uber over this.

Too many road blocks to move departments

Dry and dull with little to no guidance or motivation from supervising staff

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Extremely boring. I was hired for a payroll position that turned out to simply be data entry. Why would I need a degree in business administrations and specialize in accounting to sit and enter numbers all day? Why?

a typical day at work you go in and start your rounds and start a regular routine if the patient needs something or help you assist them to the best of your ability. the hardest part of the job is not having the help when needed  for transfers or anything that requires more than one person.they do not work well as a team  I learned how to cope with a wide variety of personalities. the most enjoyable part of my job was the patients and  making a difference in their lives.

I worked at KGH as a housekeeper for 12 years (still waiting for my ten year pin) the work environment in the housekeeping department is very hostile. Pride, hard work, polite, and respectful are all looked at as a weakness by management. They prefer quantity over quality. If you are willing to lose your self respect and dignity by polishing managements shoes, this is the place for you. If you want to make a difference and have all the qualities that are deemed as a weakness and want to grow and flourish... probably not the best place to start out. 

stock the gift shop, stock the tuck shop, cashier, balance cash at night. cover shifts in gift shop when needed. Order product, enter stock when needed. Design display window for special events.  My co workers and Volunteers are a joy to work with. It can be very fast paced and you need to be able to manage your time as you do not want to leave your volunteers alone for long periods of time. Requires a lot of walking and standing and lifting.
