Management only cares about an issue if it’s going to cost them money. There is little to no training in any department, just shown your station and given a log in and told to find it in the manual. If the manual doesn’t have it, google it. Advisors are left to their own devices most of the time with very little training. Service tech apprentices are expected to do as well as the licensed guys, with no training or supervision. Any attempt to get help usually results in “when I have a minute” or “I don’t have time to stop”. The constant problems and mistakes due to the lack of communication between departments and training for employees makes it hard for anyone to do their job correctly and end with a happy customer. Empty promises are made to the “good” employees to keep them around and “bad” employees get left to mess up to the point of termination. It’s a revolving door of employees, so you’re constantly training new people while learning yourself and trying to keep up to the demand of the company. Customers show up already distraught because “last time [they] were here, it was a bad experience”, and service staff are left to try and figure out the problem and the fix it. It’s dirty (dirtier than I would expect a dealership shop to be), it’s outdated and unsafe. No lift assists in place for heavier items, causing injuries to employees. Outdated computer systems constantly crashing. All around, it’s a stressful place to work, especially if you have any pride in your work. 

Working at Leggat Stouffville Ford as an Automotive Service Technician was, unfortunately, a disappointing experience. From the start, the management structure showed clear signs of being unprofessional and disorganized. There was a noticeable lack of communication and structure, which made it difficult to perform efficiently on a day-to-day basis.

One of the most frustrating aspects was the apparent favoritism within the service department. Certain technicians were consistently prioritized when it came to job assignments, while others were left with little to no work – a serious concern when hours and income depend heavily on consistent workload.

Despite being a dealership with potential, the high turnover rate across multiple departments spoke volumes about the internal issues. That should have been a red flag early on. Unfortunately, the lack of leadership and fair treatment made it clear over time that this was not a healthy or sustainable work environment. I would not recommend this dealership to future technicians seeking a stable and respectful workplace.

Avoid at all costs. Management takes a flexible approach to following OMVIC regulations, and it can be discouraging to work in an environment with no moral or ethical center. While the dealership is part of a corporation, you don't get the sense that it's run by anyone competent enough to oversee such a large workforce. For example, there is no consistency in implementing workplace standards, and HR is often confused if you approach them with questions about things such as statutory holidays or lieu days. Salespeople frequently fight and undermine one another, and are encouraged by management to intentionally withhold information from customers to meet sales goals. The CEO is fueled by greed and has a terrible reputation in the industry. Hourly employees are made to sign away their rights to overtime pay. Not recommended.

I was at Mazda for about 8 months and unless you are one of the main 3 boys you are in for a shock. Unbelievably demanding and ridiculous expectations from technicians. Will call you s butcher if you don't grind down the face of the brake caliper piston when doing a brake job or a service. Yes you read that right, the face of the piston. Don't worry about the boot because they'll just put silicone on it and blamed you if you tell them about it. Service manager is a great dude but stuck in the my way or the highway sense of thinking. Shop foreman gets fed more then I've ever seen and well tell you to go well ef yourself when you ask for help. 

The 1st 6 months of work for this company was stupendous; great manager and a fun and dynamic work culture. Then COVID-19 hit and the 1st major wave took its toll on our company. Eventually, the company brought in an ex-Pat as the new parts manager and it was downhill from there. Of course, writing disparaging comments about certain names are not necessary here but it became an unsavory experience. 

Nevertheless, my initial Parts Manager was great and overall really enjoyed my work experience at this company as we all worked as a team and got the job done every single day.

Been with the company many years. They claim to be all about family and inclusion. If you aren’t making the company a buttload of money they couldn’t care less. Unfair? You should work harder to make as much as the guy that does nothing. Disorganized? You should organize your station better. The only thing the group sees is numbers. You can do 20 cars in a day but if they are all 0.5s they don’t care. They only care about the guy that does 5 brake jobs all day and makes 15 hours.

If you are looking for a professional environment, look elsewhere.

Management does not care about their employees. The only thing they care about is whether they are making more money. They expect you to work long hours for less than market value pay. You basically cannot be sick and are expected to work while sick because they under-staff their departments and don’t care whether you have someone to cover your work duties.

It is one of the most toxic work cultures I have ever seen!

Working for Acura on Brant has been enjoyable with days that are never the same. From dealing with customers to training staff, the workplace culture is fast paced and ever changing. The hardest part of the job is during slow the slow season, keeping staff motivated. The most enjoyable part of the job is meeting all the different people from new staff to customers that visit the dealership.

You can make a lot of money if you're willing to work hard but you will never see and recognition for any extra hours worked or extra work produced. Management is a joke. Seems to be a revolving door for employees, people continuously  joining and quitting. Shop atmosphere is every man for themselves.
