They always hire new supervisors and they end up quiting after a couple months. 
Bad management in general, supervisors lack knowledge and take bad decisions which slow down production and then they put the pressure on workers. Current supervisors are on a constant powertrip. Tools and machines are always broken and the company don't invest in reparing or replacing them. Reparations are always temporary but it end up being the new normal. Be ready to work with machines held together with tape and ty-raps. There is no Work-life balance, ambiance is also really bad since a couple months, people are calling sick all the time and end up finding other jobs because they are unhappy. HR are arrogant and lack experience and profesionalism. The company is really dirty, you'll be sweating a lot in summer and freezing in winter. Working uniforms are provided by the employer when you finish your probation.
In general a huge lack of experience, profesionalism and respect coming from supervisors and HR. The only good things in my opinion are the insurances and other workers that are really nice and helpful. 

Worked here as a pole framer. When I was hired I was told they expect 80% consistent effort this is so far from true, they're expecting a solid 100% every day and are very unrealistic in their expectations from new hires. 

I got basically non existent training, was told id get a months worth of training on a separate skid supervised by a chargehand and got something like 1 weeks worth, it's insanely loud there and hard to communicate, and for reasons I can't understand it's looked down upon to ask questions. They expect you to understand everything the first time. 

The job pays great, but it's a terrible job. Almost no mental stimulation, very repetitive physically demanding tasks in the elements and very little room for advancement. It's an absolute sweat shop in the summer since you have to wear chaps ontop of your pants. 

Very hard on lower back and neck/shoulders. 

Management preaches safety and caring but do not care about you or your safety. Will do whatever they can to bend rules in order to pay you Insufficiently. Micro management when not needed and no help when actually needed. Was a decent place to work when I first started 4 years ago. I’ve watched multiple competent engineers get chased out due to the toxicity of management. As soon as you have a hint of backbone you are treated like garbage. 

Cannot trust managements decisions as people they put in place as assistant managers or chief engineers will tell you to do unsafe things and then fight you on it even though you are the experienced tradesman. 

You will also be told that you have an ego, too prideful, and capable of sabotage towards other employees. As well as If you do a job slightly less sufficient as your last job you will be told you are attacking the company.

workplace culture varies as all different types people work there so it depends on the team you are with.
hard on the body/lower back was the hardest part of the job as well as working in the elements.
the most enjoyable parts were getting to work with a chainsaw and feeling accomplished when i was able to save a pole from being cut in half.

This job is unionized so great benefits and job security.  The job can be physically demanding for some, but after 2-3 months you will adjust with a medium amount of effort.  The hardest part is working within the elements, freezing rain/snow in the cold months, heavy sun with risks of heat exhaustion/sunburns in the warmer months.  The culture is the mentality of "Do the bare minimum".  If you are the type to want to professionally grow, this isn't the place as advancement is minimal and the job is stale.  It can provide a great life if you manage your money well, but no intellectual stimulation.  Some risk of obsolescence for the company given the product they manufacture, but not for a while.  Good for a simple life as you are relatively over-paid and have steady work.  Some slow periods may result in lay-offs for less senior employees

The micromanagement is what the manager does, controlling the time you spend in the system, and controlling your daily tasks.

The atmosphere within the company is friendly; no one bothers you or shouts. The culture is organized; they listen to employees and learn from them.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You do your job and leave, nobody asks

A typical day at work would be somewhat social and fun with coworkers, you still get the job done while having a good day. I learned how to work fast and efficiently. Management is decent the people who work the hardest are the supervisors and the forklift drivers but the GM doesn't do much to help out. they have a diverse group of people, and accommodate for people with illnesses. the hardest part of any job that's general labor is the physical work. The most enjoyable things at this work place are the people, they always look out for you and help you as much as possible.

A typical day at work has me pulling lumber orders all day long(great exercise) and packaging orders for shipment to Home Depot stores across western Canada. I have learned to identify about 100 different types of decking and lumber. The management team at Stella Jones are very well liked and work closely with the production crew. It is like a big family in our department. The hardest part of the job is the 8 hours or more of heavy lifting. the most enjoyable part is being around my co-workers as they are a fun bunch of men and women.

Was brought in to “help change the culture” b/c the plant and production managers perceived it was bad. The culture and workers were amazing, very knowledgeable friendly and very hard working. They just wanted a bobble head who would do what they said no matter how ridiculous it was. They have no clue how to lead let alone manage people. Ask to see the employee engagement surveys before accepting anything offers, you’ll have an idea what you’re getting into. 

This is an excellent workplace to build up your skills. The welders, assemblers and inspectors are amazing people to work with. Even some supervisors are great. They solve your every doubt and make sure to teach you everything you don't know. They are very patient and skillful. My only problems were with the actual engineers/supervisors. They have 0 interpersonal skills, always talk in a condescending tone and treat you like a thief in most occasions. They do give you all the protective gear.
