I was a former employee here. Not the right place for me. First off I would like to get out of the way that this place is a great place for customers to grocery shop, and the owners in general are wonderful. 
The main issue with this place is management. The manager (not owners) don't follow appropriate employment standards.  Days you are not scheduled to be working that day are added on the schedule anyways without warning.  Other examples are the short notice of your schedule. Even after letting management know you are not able to work that specific shift that they suddenly placed you on. 2 weeks notice of your schedule "Should" be given. 
There is a lot of intimidation and scare tactics on the employees. Talking is not aloud at all, unless a customer or manager approaches you. Asking another employee a quick question is not aloud. You are not allowed to leave your station at all, even when the place is slow. Washroom break is hard to get.  If your break is even 1 minute over the limit, you get in trouble for it. Management is the only issue here, If they treated the employees better they wouldn't have such a high turn over rate. They should think twice about who they hire as management. 
Employees who work there and are high school students are afraid to speak up. So nothing changes. 


Most co-workers are nice. If you're social and outgoing you'd fit right in with the group. However, the management is awful. They will make you work really hard and set up unrealistic expectations. There is literally no room for growth within the company. There are people who have worked there for years still doing the same old tasks. They will watch you like a hawk and wait for you to fail if they set their mind to it. If you're looking for a short-term position with some flexibility it's not that bad. I do not recommend if you are looking for somewhere with a relaxed environment or if you're hoping to grow and level up in a company. 

I had a lot of problems with management, Specifically, management changing my schedule on short notice, getting upset over minor things, and refusing to train new staff. The manager at the hot table is also hostile and constantly on edge. There's also a lot of drama at this store between staff and management. I worked closing shifts, which were done by myself. There is a 10 step process for closing which is hard to do by yourself. You are expected to be in the back washing dishes while simultaneously also being at the hot table serving customers. It would be a lot easier for 2 people to close. 

a typical day at work would be stocking shelves helping customers with stuff that they are looking for I learned alot, like to be social cause you have to when you help people also independent and doing it mostly yourself .management was okay not perfect because i have gotten bullied in there by the manger. the hardest part of the job would be looking for the product for the people because most of the time it wasn't on the shelf. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to do different stuff other than stock and face the shelf.

This store does not treat employees fairly. They turn a blind eye to their favourites and then they watch over you like a hawk and micro manage everything you do.

i do not recommend that anyone to apply to this company.


management is very disrespectful towards their employees

they tell you to bust your behind for them and then they never even take the time to say thank you or good job.

then moment you stop working for one second they ridicule you and make you feel like a worthless piece of trash.

In the beginning they will treat you like a King/Queen. Making sure you’re introduced nicely to your department. Here you will meet your kind coworkers who make the job bearable. But after some time working there if you are a good worker they will start to take advantage. Management will threaten to fire you with every mistake, favouritism for coworkers will demotivate you, and customers will always be right at your expense. They even broke their own rules during Covid protocols showing that workers health does not matter to them. 

I've learned some Italian words, and I've learned a lot about different food products. The managers are really friendly and joke around, but at the same time, keep everything running really smoothly and they take their job seriously. The hardest part about the job is dealing with picky customers. The most enjoyable part of the job is encountering cheerful customers and bonding with my co-workers.

Management makes work difficult, often do not communicate to each other so you get in trouble for following their orders no matter what you do. Even when not busy you have to keep appearance of looking busy, the customers can be rude and you just have to take it. The atmosphere is passive aggressive and all managers are rude and get power trips. Pay is not worth it. You don't even get employee discount. 

Lady York Foods is a great starter job for anyone, it has relaxed and forgiving management as well as flexible hours. As a high school student this job is 100% the go to job. It let me balance my social life with work, the managers were also very lenient when it came to taking time off for school such as exams/papers etc. the only negative part was that there is no free water, so that was disappointing. Long hours is great pay so i didn’t mind that, shorter shifts are also available. 

The management at Lady York foods is great! They are all very respectable of school hours and other commitments. I have been employed with this company for 6 months now and I have learned communication skills, confidence and customer service skills that will benefit me in the future. The most enjoyable part of this job would be being able to meet new people everyday as well as being able to connect to frequent customers.
