Lake Country Co-op's slogan is "You're at home here" but if this place is a home, it's one you run away from and never contact again.

The on-boarding process is non-existent, with new hires being dumped on other employees rather than management taking the time to train them. This results in  workers that are essentially "deadweight" and puts more pressure on other staff working alongside them. Having to spend your entire shift doing your and someone else's work makes putting out stock and the nightly "jobs" take far longer then they should. If you somehow manage to get All of the Stock out, Every "job" done, the whole store faced, management will meticulously search for the one thing you did wrong and make sure to let you know that you did it wrong.


By far the worst part of this place is the S**t-talking. There is someone who works at the grocery store location in a high position who will s**t-talk everyone to anyone who will listen. This person will make fun of employees, call them slurs, and even say that he is targeting someone to get them fired. This person has created an awful work environment with multiple employees jumping ship to find new jobs with 5 people quitting in the last month with 5 more planning to quit (myself included). Upper management is well aware of this and yet continues to do nothing.

Contrary to what the rant posted here might make you think, I don't hate the Co-op, A brand that orients itself around community has the potential to be a fun place to work at, but there are people and problems here that can continue to be ignored if that fun workplace ever wants to be achieved.

The shifts were really accommodating, and you could tailor your schedule to what was needed according to your life. Full-time work was proactive, and you always had something to do. The people around you were nice but cliquey at times. The hardest part of the job was interacting with some of the coworkers, and the odd heavy lifting. The most enjoyable was the interactions with those same coworkers, and being able to be yourself while you were working.

Great place to work for, friendly coworkers. Unionized so that's always good. Extra benefits for being a member-owner of co-op while working.
Suffers from some of the same problems as everywhere. Pay couldn't keep pace with cost of living (despite the union). I left before inflation got really bad so I'm not sure how it's been updated.
Not a tremendous amount of room for advancement within the company depending on what you're going for. I was hoping to get into IT through here but no opportunities came up and I was just kind of stuck in my role at the gas station.

Being on the road doing deliveries.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The complete lack of organization and working with intoxicated co workers all day.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Disorganized. Lack of leadership and direction. No proper training for new employees. Favoritism.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Doing the jobs left over that the bosses favorite workers don't want to do.

I worked with Co-op for nearly 10 years. I started as a casual part-time meat clerk and I worked hard I loved my job. But as soon as I wouldn't choose my job over my family they dismissed me. They claim to be family oriented but that's a lie. They are under staffed, improperly trained, lack communication and it is very stressful to work for them

People you work with talk s**t behind your back. A certain someone is too “busy” to deal with “petty s**t”. “If you don’t like your job, find a new one!” Garbage pay for the amount of work you’re expected to do.  Unfairly treated. Seniority according to union contract is a thing but the people that run it say it’s not. That it doesn’t matter. 

Lake Country Co-op is a very progressive company
Expanding  at a very well thought out  pace
Board of directors have a well thought out plan for expansion
Management is well versed in the agriculture business
Direct producer contact is well planned and acted upon
Experienced employees play a important role in all areas

Low pay, no full time jobs available, no room to grow within the company and benefits aren't good.  It's a great place to work if you just need to supplement your income.  But don't waste your time if you need a career.  Go back to school instead.  This grocery store is so overpriced to shop at also.

I started in Dec 2018 and I enjoyed getting an insight of how much work goes into the daily duties. I like the management they allowed me to talk to them and work as much and as little as needed. It needs more ways of dealing with loss prevention and accusations of theft
