Honestly, at first going in, I thought that I would end up going places within the company. As long as you show up for your shifts on time, do what you are supposed to do, you would be golden. Management at the location I was placed at wasn't the greatest. I was promised hours that I ever so desperately needed as I am a young father, and the most I saw was about 15-25 hours over the course of TWO WEEKS consistently. The most hours I've seen was 34.50 hours and that was during the holiday hours and right after that, my hours went straight back down to little.. to almost nothing. So if you are gonna work for any lids establishment, make sure there is a good and fair manager and if you are looking to survive on that job, make sure the hours are there before you accept the position. The reason I say to make sure management is good there, is because I was promised two positions on two different occasions and on both occasions the position was given to someone else BUT I knew nothing of it until a couple weeks to a month later. So that is something to think about when considering a job at Lids and also looking to grow within the company.

As far as a typical day at work goes, it is exactly what you would expect at a hat store. A really laid back day. Almost everyday is a slow day.

An enjoyable part of the job I would say is dealing with customers and sharing your knowledge on sports and the products you are selling.  

The hardest part of the job would be the paperwork. There is a lot more paper work than you would expect from a at store. I would also say that the budgets and goals were almost always unattainable mainly because of what they are selling which is hats.. Something that not everyone needs as opposed to pants or shirts or shoes ect. Anyone can leave their home without a hat, but nobody will leave their home without shoes pants or a shirt. So the budgets are more of a clothing store rather than a hat store.

My home store is simply awful. Management does not care about employees whatsoever. The fact that this company allows people without two braincells to rub together the ability to manage their stores is absurd.  All they do is complain about your numbers (even if your numbers are better than those of the manager complaining) and if your numbers ARE up to par they will straight up make up statistics to make it seem like you are doing a poor job. I have had my manager change my schedule last minute or give my shifts away without first consulting me on multiple occasions. There is absolutely no direction. Manager will get angry at you for not doing anything but not tell you what to do, or will tell you to do something and then get mad at you for doing the exact thing that he just finished telling you to do. On top of that, the manager will straight up lie to customers about their orders, saying that they will be finished or shipped to store soon when they haven't even been started, and then try and blame part time employees who get six hours a week when the customer complains that the order is incomplete. The hardest part about the job is trying to find the urge to get up in the morning knowing that I have to go into work and get in trouble from management because I didn't sell enough hat steams  between 7PM and 8PM on a Tuesday night. Again, everything is the fault of the part time employees. And if you speak up about it, bye bye to your hours. I have seen the manager and assistant manager work 95% of the stores hours just so the part timers don't work. Furthermore, when part timers complain about the lack of hours, they are simply told to get another job. At this point, I think I WILL get another job.

A typical day at work would include meeting the customers needs along with completing various tasks within the store. Working as a team player is key within the company and it has helped me build long lasting relationships with not only my other coworkers but with customers as well. 

I have learned a lot in regards to good customer service and showing initiative while working. 

The management at this location is stellar. I have an amazing manager who has become a mentor for me and who has taught me many basic skills. 

I would not consider my job as being "hard" in anyway. I think if I was to consider something to be difficult  it would be to keep up in high traffic times(for example christmas) but overall I think it comes with time and experience in which i have gained over the years i've been working with the company. 

The most enjoyable part of my job is meeting new people and being a role model for the new staff.

When I first started my store was completely staffed. But since most people treat this as a floater job, everyone had moved on to another job. 

For 8 weeks there where only two employees who worked in the store. The manger and myself. During this time I would be working every day, or I'd work a 12 hour shift with no breaks. I had to learn how to do everything a store manger would do & was expected to do so. All while getting paid minimum wage - with no benefits. When we finally had hired a new employee it took another 3 weeks for her paperwork to go through so she could open & close the store.

The whole time our GM promised he would get us people from other stores to help us out - never happened. I was promise a management position with a pay raise & benefit package - never happened. I ended up getting so fed up with this company I just quit. I had no time for my family or personal life and felt like a slave to the company. 

By far the worst job experience I ever had.

Terrible place to work. They treat you like dirt. Out of my 9 years in retail/customer service worst place I have worked. The higher ups such as dms and regionals judge you and accuse you of things you never even did or they get mad cause you messed up. But thats from no proper training at all. Read manuals and books on my own time cause they didn't give the training time. I ran my store for 3 months with no store manager and was not given raise for doing all store manager duties and not providing me with enough employees so me or my employees can actual have a break and go to the washroom. Countless shifts this happend to me. When I said something amd spoke up cause none of this alright. I get let go after ten months cause they said im not the right fit. Overall terrible turnover rate overall bad place to work. Stay away

The management lies to customers and says that they do not have things in stock when they are really just in the back. They just don’t feel like getting it. Also if a employee goes to get it for a customer they get mad. The store manager is really uptight. They don’t give you hours. Very unprofessional. Only a 10 minute break and then only a 30 minute lunch if you work over 5 hours. So you could be standing all day for 8 hours and only get 40 minutes break. Even when they’re no customers in the store they have you “pretend” like you are doing something. While the management and leads play around and joke. You’re not really anything in this company unless your a manager. Overall this company was not great atleast this store wasn’t.  The pay isn’t enough and if you get no hours and barely pay. Then your paychecks are really short.

You'll be standing around all day in an mainly empty store and then ridiculed for not re organizing the hats 1000 times or looking busy in this empty store.  

Management is terrible. People constantly quit and they don't do anything to replace the people, they just throw the work on the part timers. When there is enough staff there is no shifts. HR is almost impossible to reach.

The people are usually really cool or really weird.

Hardest part is reaching goals in such a low volume company and then being punished for the companies lack of demand. They make horrible business choices and then write you up because it's not working with the public.

Most enjoyable part is going home .


It was a great job to work at. I've been interested in sports clothing & accessories since I was a little boy.

I learned a lot about the basic day in - day out operations of running a retail store & keeping business flowing smoothly.

I had a great relationship with my fellow co-workers & we always did our best to work together & achieve whatever it was that needed to be completed. As well as giving me a chance to be responsible on my own over the course of the 2 years I was there.

It also helped me more so with my sales knowledge & simple dealing with customers. Showed me that there was a definite demand for the products we were selling.

A typical day at work included stalking shelves and working the counter for sales.It took a few days to get used to the work environment but I quickly learned the routine of stacking shelves and working at the register.The management was strict but rewarding when we met the required sales.My co-workers were very outgoing and exciting to work with. We always got along and worked well together. The hardest part of the job was managing the store alone when co-workers were on their breaks, but if I needed assistance they were always ready to help. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with co-workers and getting along with them making longer shifts feel shorter.

Working at LIDS has given me much insight into the culture of retail as well as customer service. As it was my first retail job and my first time being an assistant manager, I had much to learn and the management staff were extremely kind and helpful with showing me the ropes. The hardest part of my job was learning how to complete embroideries using the machine, but it quickly became second nature to me after a few sessions with the machine. Having the right people around me to guide me and make the workplace a fun environment definitely helped me continue to stay at LIDS and want to work there for quite some time.
