I worked at the Corvex plant we were doing 8hr shifts and getting appropriate break times according to labour standards 1 ten minute break in the morning and a 20 min lunch at noon. If you came in a half hour early you could have an extra 10 minutes on your lunch for a total of a 30 min lunch and it was paid for (cause you worked a extra half hr in the morning). Then they switched us to 12 hr shifts. and only gave us a ten min break in the first 6 hrs and a 20 min lunch. In the second 6 hours we only got a ten minute break. But labour standards says a half hour for every 5 hours you work. Which meant they were missing 20 minutes in the second 6 hour shift. I told them they were in error and they spent 4 months reviewing my claim at head office. I then put in an official claim to the labour board and my contract ended 2 days after they were notified I had. My claim went through and I received notice from the labour board that they had found that they were not complying with the labour laws and had fined them $300 and told them to fix the breaks and put a notice up on the employee time card area. Letting employees know that they had not been complying with labour laws for breaks. She said they had gave them 30 days to do this. But she told t me that at that point it had been 30 days since they notified Linimar and they still hadn't fixed the breaks or put up a notice so she'd be contacting them again to find out why. I also still have the letter stating all this from the Ministry of Labour. That was over a year ago and I spoke to a girl from my line nothing has changed! They'd rather continue paying $300 fines then be fair to their employees. But god for bid an employee disobey their rules! Linda the CEO is just like her Dad doesn't give a care about her employees just the millions they make for her.

This place is so bad I don't have enough space to explain, it ranges from being watched like a hawk when work is slow, to being ignored when your swamped with work and are asking for help. They take advantage of non English speaking people by telling them; they "must" come in on holidays, punching in 2 minutes before your shift is considered late and you must be docked half an hour, and having foreigners work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week on a "Work Vacation".
       When calling in sick you get punished by having to sign a "pink" sheet, then your monthly bonus gets docked, but not just your monthly bonus but your entire departments monthly bonus. These actions are illegal as Canadian law states that a employee receives 10 sick days each year that they cannot be punished for either monetarily or socially in any way.
        Then come the absurd lies, stating that we are not making any money so the yearly raises are kept to a minimum, but don't worry your promotion is just around the corner. Half the company consists of machine set ups being payed machine operator wages in order to keep costs down, and once again this largely takes advantage of foreigners as they either don't know they should be getting payed more ore are too desperate for a promotion to simply refuse. Do not be fooled by these illusions of grandeur, your skill and work ethic does not guarantee your promotion.

I was hired on being told I would begin an apprenticeship after 2 years of basic learning of the machines. Never happened after almost 8..

 It was the dirtiest, laziest, cheapest and least organized company I've ever worked for. And I still ended up wasting the majority of a decade with them.. They're the type to tell you they're going to give you a raise, and then just don't and then deny ever saying anything. They have no care at all for their employees. They will keep loading more and more jobs onto you, so they can save on labour costs and then never give you a raise even if you're doing 5 people's jobs all at once. 
They only start to fix mechanical and even health/saftey issues once they legitimately break or cause someone injury. They seriously don't care at all.

Save yourself the disappointment, and just go somewhere else. There are much better and safer jobs that pay way more (even if you don't have education). These liars will only waste your time and slowly kill your soul.

The job isn't very difficult, it's very repetitive but you quickly get into a routine. Be ready to work 6 days a week 46-50 hours a week. Starting pay is fair at 14.75 an hour with a .50c shift premium for afternoon and night shifts. After a three month probationary period you'll be making decent money, being paid for quality parts and you'll earn $18-25 an hour on an average day. 

Worst thing about working here is that the shifts rotate on a two week period, working day-day-night-night-afternoon-afternoon. Because of the noise and earplugs communication with coworkers can be difficult, which I enjoy because it lets me focus on my work.

Everything you need to know will be taught on the job, quotas are not difficult to meet. Plan to stand for the entire shift, there are no standing mats as you're working on metal grates. You're given all the PPE you are required to wear, and you're given $100 for work shoes. You're going to want to get the most comfortable you can find as your feet quickly become sore.

Working as a machinist is both challenging and rewarding. It requires precision, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of materials and machining processes. Every day brings new challenges, whether it’s setting up complex CNC programs, troubleshooting machine issues, or ensuring tight tolerances on critical parts. The job demands patience and attention to detail, but there’s great satisfaction in seeing raw material transformed into a finished component with perfect specifications.

The work environment can be fast-paced, especially in production settings, and maintaining efficiency while upholding quality standards is crucial. There’s always something new to learn, from mastering advanced machining techniques to staying updated on the latest technology and tooling.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of being a machinist is knowing that your work directly contributes to industries like aerospace, automotive, and medical manufacturing. It’s a career that offers stability, growth opportunities, and the satisfaction of creating something tangible with your skills and expertise.

Management is friendly to all employees and your positive and useful views and ideas are valued. One who wants to learn and utilize his knowledge are encouraged and also get chance. Learnt all aspects of Materials Management -  Inventory Management, Capacity/ Production Planning, Shipping and Receiving, Physical Inventory. Learnt interaction with Customers for demand / Suppliers for material. Learnt the process of new product launch. Management is very cooperative and encouraging for new ideas and views  for lean suggestions. Co-workers are friendly and cooperative. For me the hardest parts of the job is how much you complete you feel still we have more to do to improve and bring better for the company and yourself. The employees have freedom to express their views, Management is ready to respond your even most silly concern and satisfy. As a Planner, I have been trying all possible methods / ways to minimize inventory level with optimizing flawless production to meet customers' demand.

In a fast-paced and challenging setting, every task demands focus, quick decision-making, and strong prioritization skills. First thing machine set up- Check all tool holders and cutting edges
Next run test part- check for proper dimensions within tolerance
adjust depth of cut using numerical input
send part in for quality assurance
run machine with minimal down time to achieve max productivity

the hardest part of the job work the constantly rotating shifts which made in hard to adapt to a given sleep pattern

excellent team relationship between most co-workers but i found a certain amount of lack of care regarding important and sensitive measuring equipment by others

What i most enjoyed while working at Linamar was the excitement of always being able to improve, and solve problems. Wether it was a machine fault or a way to refine my own process it always gave me a sense of accomplishment.

The first couple years were great, but after management changed the whole place went down hill fast. 
The pay is garbage for the amount of work they ask you to do and it takes a long time to make your way up to a decent wage. Also, be prepared to work 6 days a week and sometimes 12-13 days straight depending which way your shift rotates. 
They do not care about their employees at all. After working there for 8-9 years, myself and a lot of other long time employees were laid off before employees that had only been there less than a year. They made us believe we would be called back but that never happened. If you have a voice or opinion you will be targeted the most! They only like the quiet ones who don’t stick up for themselves or others or who don’t know their rights. 
But I will say, a lot of my coworkers and supervisors were great! Management not so much! 

I have been at Linamar for 3 years and I have had my share of watching people come and go.  It is rewarding if you are liked by the supervisors because you will see more money on your paycheck.  On hot days, we worked will very little heat breaks and our system to check how hot it is, is locate near the fans.  Get used to the heat.  They do not value you like they tell you.  The one positive aspect to the company is that their competitors and other organizations pay more and even with a year under your belt, other HR departments in organization will hire you away from them.   People who smoke are top dogs where I work. Management knows this.  They also have alot of experience the company cannot afford to lose.
