Right from the start of your employment, Lordco breeds a culture of mediocrity. Everything you do is "good enough." Coworkers who have been employed there a long term are especially at fault for this type of culture.

Management is downright negligent when it comes to employee concerns. Yes, they're good pencil pushers for head office, but when an employee asks to meet to discuss an issue with a coworker, we're listened to, the manager will appear to be sympathetic, but not a thing will change. I learned to deal with problems without the help of management.

There is a deep, deep habit of bullying in Lordco from the long-time employees. If you're one of the lucky ones, they'll take a liking to you and you'll be accepted by them, but you'll be forced to watch them bully other employees based on their appearance, weight, mental health issues, personal lifestyle, etc. I was applauded when I spoke of drinking alcohol after work, but chastised when I mentioned going to the gym or going for a run. When I began standing up for myself and others being bullied I was immediately gossiped about by the manager and his small clique of long-term coworkers. If this sounds like a high school culture to you, you're right, because not many of the employees here have an education higher than a high school level and very few have an intelligence greater than a grade 9 level, despite graduating.

I have never worked for a worse internal company culture and I never will again.

Beyond the internal issues, Lordco's customer base is a collection of reprobates, degenerates, and otherwise foul and vile individuals. Apart from a small minority of customers at Lordco, the vast majority are aggressive, obnoxious, unintellectual and ruthless. I'm an extremely patient person, but as your work shift and employment progress, the more and more these low-brows begin to wear on your psyche. You'll spend your whole shift with your back up, constantly on guard from the gossip you know is going on behind your back and the aggressive, cheapskate customers in front of your face.

There are few rewarding aspects of Lordco, but there are some. Firstly, the benefits package you can apply for is outstanding (but head office will dig deep for any reason to disqualify you from getting it). Secondly, the free lunches for employees working weekends are kind of Lordco. Thirdly, you'll learn A LOT. Even if you're not interested in the mechanics trade, you'll come out of Lordco with more knowledge about automotive and industrial related stuff than when you went in. Lastly, there's room for promotion at every Lordco if you work hard enough, but there is a ceiling you'll never pass.

Overall, Lordco has a culture of bullying, employs only disinterested management, and you are forced to help bottom of the barrel of society on a day-to-day basis. If you have other employment options, take them. Only use Lordco as a worst-case scenario.

The hardest part about this job is just learning about what parts are what, and where they are stored in the back room.  That being said, there are always people around who know where to find things, so this really isn't much of an issue anyways.  

Otherwise, you'll be driving around town to shops and customer's homes, as far as Oyster River or Parksville, on a daily basis.  Not much interaction with the customers either, pretty much all of them are content with you just dropping off the parts and receipt and driving off without a word.  The cars all have a tablet that has a google maps style GPS route that is pre-programmed before every trip, so there is no worrying about not knowing where you are going.  

When the orders are coming in slow, there will be stock to put away or shelves to organize/tidy up, and sometimes you'll wash your car if it's nice out.

The management team (in the year 2020 that I was employed) were friendly, super helpful, and willing to go out of their way to accommodate reasonable requests for time off and what not.  Never had a single issue with either of them, and I always felt at ease whenever they were around.  Also, if you put in the time and prove yourself to be a reliable employee, they will be very supportive of you for advancement opportunities when they appear either in location or throughout BC.

The pay isn't spectacular by any means, but there are a lot of other jobs out there that are far more difficult that pay the same.  Also, after 6 months you'll get (some really good) benefits, and if you don't crash your car after a year of working, you will be awarded with a $100 bonus, and this increases by $100 every year you work so long as you continue to drive safely.   

The only issue I had while working there was that, occasionally, a couple of the non-delivery driver staff would vent their frustrations regarding their job or mistakes made at the drivers, which could be annoying to have to deal with.  Luckily though, the total time spent around them in a day would probably amount to no more than 30 minutes as you will be driving most of the time on most days.  

Overall this is a pretty good job for anybody looking for steady full-time work, whether it be as a stepping stone or if you want to stay with the organization and move on to roles such as management or driving bigger trucks for longer distances.  If you make a career out of it, it can end up paying well and will also provide you with a pension.  

I worked at Lordco Auto Parts and, unfortunately, my experience was more frustrating than fulfilling. While the company has a diverse workforce and some genuinely knowledgeable and helpful coworkers, the overall work environment left a lot to be desired.

In my opinion, there's a noticeable amount of favoritism. Workload distribution is unequal—those who consistently work hard are often overburdened, while others who are favored or tend to push back are given fewer responsibilities. This kind of imbalance impacts team morale and productivity.

The compensation did not reflect the workload, in my opinion, and I felt the performance review process lacked transparency. In my experience, we were required to sign off on reviews whether we agreed with them or not. However, the signing was mandatory. This made the whole process feel unfair and demotivating.

Paid sick leave was also a struggle. Even though I followed the proper procedures—like informing my supervisor ahead of time—it was very difficult to get approval or receive paid sick time off. I had to follow up multiple times, and if the leave wasn’t approved before the payroll deadline, it wasn’t corrected at all. I experienced this personally in January 2024 and again in March 2025. Despite being eligible, I never received the pay I had earned, which was very disappointing.

The workplace environment also had some safety concerns in my view—there was a lot of dust buildup, and some shelving seemed unstable. The systems used were outdated and extremely slow, which made everyday tasks frustrating. It was difficult to get leadership to understand or address these challenges.

Although many employees are knowledgeable and committed, I felt their contributions were often overlooked. Recognition and opportunities for training or advancement seemed to be offered inconsistently, with no clear communication about how decisions were made. It was hard to see capable team members go unrecognized while others with less involvement were favored.

Overall, this workplace might work for those who prefer to lay low or have the right connections, but if you're someone who values fairness, accountability, and recognition for hard work, this might not be the right fit based on my experience.

I started working at Lordco nearly a year ago and was told the management is something that I need to watch out for. I didn't understand at first because everything seemed wonderful, until my three month probation was up. 
I have since learned that when you are in your three month probation you are favourited to make you stay. Management is kind, understanding and flexible, but as soon as those three months are up everything changes. He becomes hostile, angry and makes it hard to come to work everyday.  We are told to "leave our problems at the door and just do our job" but we are physically unable to leave our problems at the door as the problem works in the building with us. We are told on our kelowna runs that we are too close together but when we slow down we get in trouble for being too slow. Same thing happens with deliveries. If we are too fast we must be speeding but if we are too slow we need to hurry it up. Keeping in mind we must perfectly follow all driving rules, signs and speeds otherwise we could get written up from people calling us in. We are unable to stand up for ourselves otherwise we are arguing. Our schedules constantly have mistakes but when we bring up these mistakes we are told "the schedule isnt wrong, i dont mess up" which is untrue. I have personally had to deal with some severe medical needs being ignored as i am "too young to be sick" which has caused me to be unable to perform my job well without severe consequences. Despite me telling management about these needs I am told i am lying constantly and that i need to "suck it up and deal with it" when i am physically unable. I am stressed beyond belief when I g into work as I am terrified of getting yelled at and not being able to explain what I am doing and why without getting yelled at more. Our lunches are always extremely late if we get them at all. If it hits 3pm and we havent had our lunch break yet and ask we get in trouble for asking and taking a late lunch. Our boss always comes into the back yelling about us not doing any work when we are actively working and trying to get things done. This causes the rest of our staff to get overwhelmed and start taking out their stress on us and it is just a downward spiral. If you care about your own health (mental and physical) please do not apply here.

I enjoy working with my coworkers at or near the same job level.  They take the time to train and demonstrate the things I do not know.  I constantly learn.  I enjoy the quick pace of the job and the advancement the company seems to have.  I feel I'm decently paid for the job expected.  I enjoy the job culture.  Nearly all of my customers are positive in dealing with and they are obviously the best part of the job in that they respect they need my help just as much as I need their continued patronage.  That is where the good parts of my job end.

I look forward to being yelled at in front of customers and coworkers if something has been done incorrectly.  I also enjoy problems being exaggerated to the point of them being almost lies where my manager does not listen to my side of issues that have been brought to him/her about my performance. I relish when my manager complains to me about problems I may have with a procedure in that I may not have a clear line to follow, yet he/she has had zero involvement with my training.  I find it hilarious that I get into trouble for issues or hindrances that occur at other Lordco locations as if I am supposed to be accountable for what others do not do to get the job done.  

I have yet to have any kind of constructive criticism with my manager to discuss how I may improve except to tell him/her that there are many things I have not been made aware of to not do except to be informed by my coworkers to avoid a certain set of procedures unless there's not an alternative.  Instead, he/she runs our store with extreme stress and negativity when there's been no contingency for these situations.  We do things to ensure we're not being yelled at and to avoid confrontation.  We don't have meetings.  We don't discuss how to properly do things.  There's no manual.  There's no real paperwork except a training course to show how to be a counterperson at a very generic level.

I accept we have a business to run and we all share in how that should be in line with Lordco's expectations, but dumping all of the negative expectations with little to no actual positive and helpful feedback and the minimal involvement from my manager makes this job incredibly difficult.

I personally loved this company for many reasons and would love to return to it one day. A typical day at work as a salesman is easy stand at your desk answer the phone and greet customers as they come to you, assess their problem with the vehicle and source them the parts. I knew nothing about cars when i started this job and when i finished i was able to tear down and rebuild an engine. The management is a complex system at Lordco, Upper management at the head office was fantastic. However the store in house management was based on the location I worked at 5 locations during my time there mainly from moving also being placed where i was needed 3 out of 5 of those managers were fantastic, 1 was OK but i didn't work there long enough to know him as well and the 5th one and i did not see eye to eye on anything, and treated his employees poorly, the only reason i left this company was because he made me choose between work or college so i chose college. The co workers were amazing at everyplace i worked there accepting people who like to have fun at work I learned so much about the company from them that without them i would have never moved up so fast like i did.The hardest part of this job was, well there is a few parts, 
1) being able to communicate effectively with some customers as not all spoke perfect English.
2) lots of heavy labor was involved which can be tough for some
3)schedule flexibility there isn't much room for it

The most enjoyable part of the job though was how upper management treated you, Every year you get a Christmas party all paid for and through out the year they held contests for sales, where you can earn all expenses paid trips and if the trips were on your days of work you got paid to be on those trips as well.

I’m a student still, so I have school Monday through Thursday, so the company was kind enough to offer me a part time student schedule, so I work Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

Generally my shifts consist of ringing customers through, stocking shelves, sweeping my area and keeping paperwork organized and done. On Fridays and Sundays I’m the closing shift, and Saturdays I open. I’m still learning the morning shift paperwork, but I’m adapting to doing both opening and closing paperwork. 

Management is super helpful as well. If I’m stuck on something or make a mistake, management is there to help. Same goes for my coworkers.

My coworkers are what makes the job so enjoyable in my opinion. Very kind, helpful and understanding when a mistakes been made or if I’m stumped on something. 

But with every job comes it’s ups and downs; whether it be a bad day, or things just seem impossible to complete, most of the time it’s finding stock in the back for me. Most of the time whatever I’m trying to find is out of stock or being ordered, but it can sometimes frustrate me, because while I’m doing stock I run back and forth from the back to my till to ring customers through. It’s gotten easier for me to do but in the beginning it was tough.

And while things can get confusing, my favourite thing about the job is being able to help customers and coworkers however I can. It’s a good feeling knowing you helped someone with something they were stumped with, or having conversations with customers and joking around.


I’ve learned so much from the short time I’ve been there, and I really wouldn’t want another job, I like where I am :)

Management thinks of you just as another statistic, thinks being paid minimum is a godsend, belittles you all the time and questions your work acting like you don't know how to do your job. Nitpicks meaningless things to make sure they're "delegating" you constantly. Management will talk about owning up to mistakes and taking responsibility, but then when you own up to a mistake you've made they get upset and throw a fit. Management also picks favorites, mostly the front house/Counterman and cashiers are all fine, but the back like shipping, warehouse and delivering all are not on that favorites list. Management promises a "raise" a year when in reality it is just minimum wage going up that is your "raise." They will say "your raise is going up 7%," but then your raise only goes from the old minimum to the new minimum. Management just doesn't know how to communicate fairly with their employees. There is no respect they give you at all when talking to management, even when you're explaining something on why you did it a certain way they will still get mad, so pretty much all you can do is just be an "ok" man, because if you say anything to defend yourself or protect you or your coworkers, they just say "Don't talk back to me, or stop arguing with me" so you can't even stand up for yourself without them saying you're just a problem maker that doesn't care about their job like they do. I have been working at Lordco for over 3 years and none of the people here are the same, completely different staff in back and in front except for the favorites that have seniority.

Lordco is all about themselves and does not appriciate the employees they have .
Coming right from their mouths , Their employees are disposable .
The don't give medical benefits to the young people with small children. Even though the young people are full time employees the leave their employment status as part time .
The other thing about Lordco is they feel they can put you down , curse at you and bully you .
They also won't pay overtime, if you work orvertime you have to bank it at regular time and then can only use that time when they want you to use it .

Lordco talks about how they are a family oriented company but in reality that family only includes their immediate family .

Managers sleep with the employees, outside sales people sleep with store manager , and it is a free for all if you are making money .
But employees are prewarned that they are not allowed to date anyone who works in the company or their jobs will be terminated.
There have been cases where average employees have been made to move to other stores because they were dating someone in their store. and then found out that the store they transfered too had people dating in that store . so why is it right for one employee and not another.
Another thing you might want to know is if you go into the store and complain about a price or say you can get is cheaper somewhere else. the next time you come in you may pay double the price . Because the parts people can change the pricing . So never make a counter person mad .

The best part of working on the counter was the people...the customers and my co-workers.  

The co-workers were quite professional and efficient, despite being poorly trained. We worked for each other and tried to help each other whenever we could.

In my experience, Lordco is chronically understaffed. This causes workplace stress and little time to learn about the very wide product offerings. What makes it more challenging is that Lordco doesn't give coffee breaks...just your 1/2 hour lunch.  This is tiring and hard on the body.

I also noticed that inventory was a problem. Even popular items were often out of stock, especially towards the end of my time there.

Many employees complained that they never received overtime pay, and were often expected to stay past store hours if customers were around after closing time.

I opted out of their extended health plan because it was very expensive. 

Lordco has a successful organization built on customer service, but the employees are overworked, not paid for it, and as a result, morale is very low.
