You will see adult toys. This is an adult store. This is the environment. But that's not the problem. The people who are customers are great people, well-mannered, and some of the most regular people you'll ever meet.


No. The real problem is the literal roller coaster you will endure working here. There is no rhyme or reason for half of the decisions made, you will be promised things/hours and then thrown half of them and told to grovel. You will make schedules and have lesser tiered employees take half of them at their will. You are working at an enigma of a store. Outstandingly obtuse, blindingly deceitful, and frighteningly demanding for a minimum wage job.


My dear friends,

If you want to work at an adult store, try working at Aren't We Naughty, even the Stag Shop. Mom and Pop stores that look grimey on city-slick corners probably have more ethics than this franchise. Please trust me on this. You'll be thrown around so much, have your hours tampered with to the point of no return that you'll want to leave.

After working for the Loveshop for over a year, I can conclude it's something that varies depending on store location but, in my experience, was a great job. You may think that adult toy stores are gonna attract a really weird clientel but, to tell you the truth, the vast majority of customers are the most normal people you can imagine. There was a lot of stuff to learn as you go, but once you have the knowledge on products (which doesn't take long, really), you get to help people out with what they perceive as a daunting and intimidating subject. It's rewarding and fulfilling! 

I have genuinely loved working here. It's not overly busy most of the time, plus customers are fun to talk to and interact with. The hours can be a bit... inconsistent? But otherwise, the manager I had was super understanding and wanted to make everyone's schedules fit together. 

As you can imagine, you do get the odd weirdo, there are harassing prank calls on a semi-regular basis. You may run into people you know and learn more about their personal lives than you'd like to. But considering how laid-back the job was overall, those are small complaints.

One thing I will say is the managers are not paid enough. They put in a lot of work, even outside of hours, and barely make more than the regular sales associates (y'know, minimum wage).

Each time i go into work, i have to prepare myself for harassing phone calls and underage people trying to come into the store. 
I have to ID every person who doesn't look 25, because many high school students are around my store. 
I learned that if customers are making you feel uncomfortable you are allowed to ask them to leave, and how to deal with inappropriate situations.  I also learned how to work with many adult toys and was able to learn how to sell each one properly and enthusiastically. 
The management was completely unprofessional. My manager was threatened by how well i was doing in sales at the store and reduced me to one shift a week. The manager would hire other people and during the training she would bash the other employees (including me) in an attempt to scare them and prepare them not to like anyone. 
My co-workers were amazing, they were reliable and were happy to switch a shift if needed. The co-workers made everything better.
The hardest part of my job was dealing with the cruel management.
The most enjoyable part of my job was making the customers happy and feel comfortable talking to me and asking me questions. I had the opportunity to meet all kinds of interesting people!

I love coming to work! Management is very dedicated to their role and to this company.  I can definitely feel the passion, and it is real - this is a great place to work.  This role is really all about how you handle the challenging customer, prioritize the day's tasks and juggle your shift with time management. There are alot of interesting moments. I get to dress up mannequins, be creative with displays and do the store window to match the season or events that month.  The work I put in shows at the end of the day or in the morning when I wak in to a beautiful store. I pick customers' brains to find the right items for them, embarass myself with random people, and learn from customer feedback about great or horrible product experiences.  The employee discount is nothing to complain about. They have staff incentives, commission. We sell cool stuff! 

It is really not just a job. It's fun stuff to help people choose. Like, do you want a hot pink or baby blue dong with your peaches and cream lube? I like that. 

Being in the shop and helping customers is great, most customers are super sweet and friendly. The other things that come along with the job is horrible, upper management is horrible, they clearly show which employees they favour and which they do not. My location lost 3 people within 1 month. Upper management cannot properly communicate with their staff. They say they’ll do one thing and do the complete opposite. There were days where they said they’d come by the shop to help figure things out but they wouldn’t show up. They had to do a complete cleanup of all the previous staff at my location. I did a 12 am closing shift by myself only after 2 shifts. They do not properly train you, you’re left to figure stuff out on your own, and you close out your own till. You work by yourself majority of the time unless on the “busier” days, but even then if there isn’t enough staff you do it yourself. I wouldn’t work here ever again.

Now that I no longer work here, I can post an honest review. This was one of the most disappointing jobs I’ve ever had. I started off loving it and then ended up feeling pushed out by management. Out of nowhere, my manager started having problems with me and accusing me of things. I got next to no support for personal matters and even ended up missing a friend’s funeral because I worked that day and my manager ignored my message asking to cover. At one point, my shifts were also given away and when I asked for them back because I needed them to pay bills I was met with hostility. I wish it weren’t that way because I genuinely enjoyed helping customers feel more comfortable and informed on what was otherwise very intimidating purchases. Don’t work here if you expect any kind of support on personal matters. Helping and educating customers is fulfilling but ends up not being worth it in the end.

I’ve been working for The Love Shop for almost 3 years now and I have to say it’s the best job ever!
Upper management is very supportive and available at anytime of the day. 
The staff are kind and helpful. The best part of this job is helping customers find the perfect product for them and having them smiling while leaving and of course wanting to come back to add to their collection of toys. 
The training that we all received from upper management is incredible and you definitely learn a lot from them.
As fun as this job is, I find you also have to take this job seriously. Working one on one with customers, making them feel comfortable while at the store and making a purchase and of course helping the customer find the product perfect for them.

in terms of the actual job, it’s stressful when you first start because of all the products you have to learn but you slowly get the hang of things and it comes naturally eventually.

the environment isn’t for everyone. it can be intimidating and overwhelming for some but coworkers and management were the kindest and most understanding people.

after your first week/two, you typically work alone during your shifts (which can be a bit overwhelming but you get the hang of it).

the discount is really good and the pay is fair 

some customers you’ll love but most customers you’ll find will make you lose faith in humanity.

the best part: the coworkers and especially the manager (she is truly the most wonderful person ever).
