A typical day at work would really begin in the lunch room in the morning. The atmosphere given off of what people did the night before, would typically give a glimpse and an expectation of how your fellow co workers were going to operate.  
Seeing this pattern and different trade workers like this, gave me insight as to how to work with people in order to find their strengths and weakness throughout the work day. 
Because our job scope consisted of us to working in living homes, I understood quickly how and why management chose certain people to do certain jobs (keeping the customer happy, comfortable and satisfied)

The hardest part of the job was entering into a premises without proper information of the job scope.. ie)wrong questions being asked or not enough questions. This would cause time loss as well with frustration with some people (understandably).... This is where my confidence as a team leader grew.
Most enjoyable part of my job was learning new things... learning a bit of new trades, learning people, learning the cause and prevention of damages in homes.  (destruction and reconstruction)

Every morning there was a team meeting to discuss our work day plus we had a safty meeting once a week. There was always something new on a daily basis, such as flood or fire damage in rural saskatchewan. Our management staff were the best, they made sure our working environment was safe and there was always a job to do. The best part of working for Lydale is working with people that became family, that made for a good working team. On one rare occasion, we had to do a clean-up where a man was found in his home after three weeks decomposed. I was assigned to clean the main living area and it was like seeing his last few hours of his life. I often still think of this incident to this day, not only as a learning experience but a gift of strength. Working for Lydale Construction was an adventure and enjoble to work for.

The management is terrible on the emergency crew, not only does the manager not know what she is doing, she takes everything personally and makes everything personal. Nothing is taken professional, she only worries about being friends with everyone and talking behind their back as soon as they turn around. 

The crew you work with is great, but again management turns you against everyone to that they look good. If anything is done wrong, expect to be thrown under the bus even when management tells you what you are supposed to do, so you do and then in the end they were wrong. But they can't take the responsibility for their actions.

I once worked for this company. At first they were kind and courteous. But when innocent mistakes were made, rather than sit down and discuss methods to resolve them, they let you go. On top of that, that cut your throat after you leave.
Face to face they smile. Once you leave the room, they are quick to swear and gossip. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed my time there. It was the after stuff that hurt the most. Especially when I did nothing wrong.
It was very disappointing to have a company that was rumoured to be good then have them turn on you in the manner they did. I would not recommend them to anyone. Not a very classy company at all!

Management is alright, though sometimes cutting costs at the expense of productivity. Same with safety standards, going above and beyond the recommendations and hindering certain aspects of the job (eg. not being able to use OLFA knives for drywall cutting).

Dirty work with little recognition, either in terms of thanks or pay. Christmas bonuses minimal with lack of employee incentives to also cut costs( like Christmas party)

A typical day at work was great, got to travel all over and out of the city and jobs you worked with great people.Overall working for Lydale was very good at the beginning however once new management came in employees were getting fired left right and center or basically quit themselves because all rules had changed, jobs had changed, new standards for everything. So for those employees, friends and family who were their from the start were the ones that were gone because of the changes in management.

Knowledge, education none of that matters, if you are buddy with branch manager you are safe, regardless how dimly lit you are. If the owner for once took time and had some honest conversations with his field staff he would be in shock how poorly managed this operation is, and the manager has always someone to blame. 

Office staff are a tight non-inclusive group including the manager. Hire people and lay them off constantly as they don’t seem to have much work, I guess that’s why the inner circle leaves all the time to go golfing or go out for lunch while excluding anyone that doesn’t fit in with them.  No training provided and zero safety measures, PPE was a paper mask even for industrial fires and asbestos.

I could have continued my job hunt and gotten something that would have taken me further, but instead my time and skills were completely wasted.

The management sucks in this place. Especially the owner. He will throw anyone under the bus at the first chance he gets. Some of the admin staff in the Calgary office are the rudest people I’ve ever met and are torture to work with. My position with the company was wrongfully terminated. I miss the employees on the various crews and some of the project managers but not the admin staff or the higher up management. I worked a lot of overtime with no compensation or recognition for the hard work I put in.

Lydale Construction is a good place to work if you are wanting to learn multiple aspects of construction.  The company cares about the well-being of their employees and do not shy away from spending the $$ on training and safety supplies to ensure the workers are properly equipped.  Unfortunately like pretty much all companies there are a few bad seeds that are difficult to work with.  Overall I would recommend working at Lydale as it has been a good experience for me.
