You are required to only wear the newest clothes from the store and though you are compensated by 50%, 3 items would be equivalent to working 4-5 shifts. Managers would call you basic for not maintaining a wardrobe, wearing a 'decent' amount of makeup, or having your hair done. Would ridicule you in front of the store on what you were wearing was plain. Your style had to be at least a '7' and makeup a '7' to sell on prime shifts like Fridays and Saturdays. The clothes were definitely just alright for what they were priced as I had many lose a button or eventually rip first to fourth wear plus styles revolved around every two weeks as it is a fast-fashion brand. 

There were many discrepancies at the time I worked there which made the environment tense at times besides the already present cliqueyness and favouritism. The sales floor was small so managers would often be observing you and for the most part come directly to correct your selling strategies. Up-selling was more mandatory than encouraged which would make both you and the client uncomfortable. 

I would not recommend this job for any previous Sales Associates as you may end up losing more money buying into their brand. The environment is one that could wear you out after a couple months.

Every shift was filled with anxiety and stress to reach our outrageous daily sales goals. If we did not reach these goals we would be scolded and given attitude by management. The clothes are horrible quality and overpriced. Staff are fake and judgemental and extremely materialistic. If you are not decked out in designer you are looked down upon. Almost all of my money would be spent on buying their cheap clothes in order to model their most recent pieces. There were many times I would text my manager telling her I couldn't come in for personal or health reasons and she would not even reply and then treat me poorly at the workplace. There were just many unrealistic expectations and if they were not met, good luck working anxiety free. For minimum wage I wouldn't subject myself to another minute of that underpaid, stressful job. Not to mention having to stay overtime to make sure everything was completely properly spaced. It was not fun dealing with hours of anxiety just to stay an extra hour or more cleaning up the store.

I was employed at M for roughly 3.5 years, throughout my time there we had various managers because they couldn't "handle" our team. This company thrives off the line of: "caring about their employees" when they DO NOT. When problems occurred, management did absolutely nothing, especially SUPERVISORS and DISTRICT MANAGERS. 

Management was absolutely horrible which was why I left. The store manager only cared about how her employees dressed and looked rather than their overall ability to learn, improve, or compliment their employees. Many times she would call her employees BASIC in front of customers/her OWN employees. 

Pay cheque wise, you'll blow it on their clothing. You're required to wear recent/seasonal pieces and if you don't you will be called BASIC and/or written up. Don't let that 50% off fool you. 

The only plus side working at M was meeting amazing girls who became my best friends, which was why I even stayed for that long. 

I DO NOT recommend working here unless you want to be broke and called out for not looking "good".

A typical day at work involves calling everyone who walks in "babe!" which is already cringe enough. Training is demeaning, you are taught about the 5 "ideal" girls that M caters towards and if you don't fit the mold you are ridiculed by managers who will call you basic. Management is horrible, some closing shifts end past 1am and the closing duties are not distributed evenly. There is very clear favouritism and seniority. Hardest part of the job is having to follow people around while calling them babe and dealing with management. Only good thing about the job is the 50% off but the clothes aren't even that good.

terrible culture. awful management. petty coworkers and drama. overpriced but basic clothing that you have to basically force customers to try on and purchase or you’ll get in trouble. they barely give you hours so you get one-two shifts in a 2 week pay period if you’re lucky (that isn’t even enough to afford the clothes they make you wear). i could go on, but if you go in and ask any girl working there if they genuinely enjoy their job, they’ll tell you the truth. so many girls (including me) quit after 2-3 months because that’s all they can handle. do NOT reccommend working here.

Constantly felt undervalued, and the extremely competitive environment made it miserable to work there.  They make you buy clothes only from the store. Every pay-check I received went right back into maintaining a wardrobe from the clothes in the store. You stay 2+ hours after closing to clean up the ENTIRE STORE, ex. vacuuming, hanging up the clothes so the hangers were EVENLY spaced, and refolding everything in the store. Many times I went home at 1am in the morning, and they WOULDN'T LET YOU LEAVE before it was 'perfect',

Great place to grow and develop as a young professional; works with very notable, high profile, and reputable Canadian clients . Very team-oriented culture. Management open and very approachable — both with respect to day-to-day operations and with to long-term growth initiatives. Generous amount of vacation time, extensive health benefits, education support (not formal policy but treated on case-by-case basis), and thanking programs in place.

Worked for M Boutique for 6 years and definitely can say it’s the best retail workplace I have worked in the 12 years that I’ve been in retail. Definitely recommend working here if you love fashion and providing one on one customer service. Met so many amazing people while working here. Built many friendships and mentorship with the people in this company.

This Job was a lot of fun. Current fashion is the main interest with working at M Boutique, new product would come in almost everyday. The managers and coworkers made the job extremely fun! its like family when you work at M, everyone bonds over fashion and has a great time sharing there fashion advice/ styles with customers.

I always felt welcomed when working here. Everyone was very supportive, they would help each other to succeed. The training was very good and the manager would not make you feel like you had to go out and sell until you were comfortable.
