Working at metro is a solid entry-level job if you don’t mind physical work and a fast-paced environment. The role involves a mix of customer service, food prep, stocking, and maintaining cleanliness. You learn a lot about handling, quality standards, and safety protocols, which can be valuable for moving into higher roles in the department or store.

The job can get demanding, especially during rush hours or sales events. You’re on your feet the entire shift, dealing with heavy lifting, constant cleaning, and occasional messy tasks.  Customer questions can be repetitive, but interacting with people can also make the day go by faster.

Overall, it's a decent job for gaining retail and food-handling experience, but it definitely requires someone who’s okay with physical work and staying busy.

The actual work as a grocery clerk at Metro is... fine. Mundane at best. But the problem lies with management; depending on the store, communication can be extremely poor regarding availability/vacation time off, and they will sometimes flat-out ignore availability. Also, my store had a revolving door of ASMs every few months which was very odd and made communication even worse.

Overall it's okay  as a part-time job if you're in school or bored over the summer as a student, but there's very little room for advancement after that. You have to get put on a waiting list to go full-time which can take years and the company is very cheap, often electing to just have the part-timers pick up the slack in a department of a full-timer quits.

The best part is you are your own boss and fastest you work the more your performance going up

No stress for me because I live the job

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The company has the best warehouse equipment and have the best flexible hours, the supervisors interact with the employees very nicely and the seniors always help the juniors at the workplace

Work flow in the evening is ok

Working at Metro Inc. as a store associate has been an incredibly positive experience. From the beginning, the work environment felt welcoming, supportive, and team-oriented. Management consistently treated employees with respect and made an effort to recognize hard work, which created a motivating atmosphere throughout each shift. The training process was straightforward and helpful, allowing new employees to quickly become comfortable with daily responsibilities and customer interactions.

Overall, this was a good workplace with a friendly team and a fast-paced environment. I learned a lot about customer service, communication, teamwork, and staying organized during busy times. The job can get stressful when it is very busy, but it also helps you build confidence and experience dealing with different customers. Management and coworkers were helpful, and it is a good place for someone who wants to gain work experience and improve their people skills.

Over work and unfair wages, management has high expectations for you even if you’re working by yourself. As soon as you call in due to your body hurting from over exertion management will throw a fit and think you’re faking it.

If you're looking to start in logistics it's a great place to start. You have to be a self starter as training and information is not shared very well. With a bit of work you can be a go to person here. Good intro to union dynamics and dealing with management. Do what you can, moving up is a combination of right place right time right opportunity with the right manager. 


I'd have given 1 star if i didn't meet such wonderful people, I tried my best too run a great department. And store level bosses did nothing but interfere. 
No one ever got fired, just don't take the job too serious, and the job will never expect you too do more. I learned this  too late and cared too much, thus i butted heads with store level bosses, and out I went. 

They have very thorough training and there is a lot of guidance for newer employees. They give you other things to do besides cashiering when its slower, which stops the job from getting too repetitive. Overall a great place to work. 

started off as as a cashier and was promoted to supervisor. The pay for the amount of work you do is not great. But I was on good term with my managers so it made the workplace bearable. The customers was what made things bad
