MAIN STREET PROJECT

When we start our shift, we do a hand over meeting, then we tidy up and start our days with making/serving breakfast and coffee. A lot of our day consists of supporting community members, helping with applying for housing, and normal everyday activities such as providing clothing and shower supplies as well as helping people feel safe and welcome. We monitor potential drug poisonings and lower the risk of OD with the use of oxygen therapy. We also use narcan and cpr on persons already in OD/drug poisoning. The best part of my Job is the relationships I've been able to form with the community who uses MSP but also with the Staff and management of MSP. 

I loved my job working for the Main Street Project for the last 3 years, my time working here has been extremely productive and educational. Working with approximately 90% of an aboriginal community and culture has been comforting and informative. Management tends to restructure often and has very little communication with their staff. I have found a lot of micromanaging within the organization and it has given most staff a bad taste of the kind of work we do as employees seeking more within the field. I have grown lots of relationships with staff and clientele and am very appreciative to have met these individuals throughout my time here.

I had a co worker literally use the bathroom in a bucket and management would not do anything. If you want to do work with the community and do something meaningful do not work here. Most of the people were here are here for a pay check and didn’t have any experience working with marginalized people. The turn over rate is super high because of the stressful work , bad management and no opportunities for advancement.  During the cold there was a time a co worker were lying and telling people we were full during the cold at night and management did not care. Overall my experience was bad. . 

Main Street Project was a superb employer and I enjoyed my short time there.
I was laid-off due to restructuring however this has no reflection on the company.

I was responsible for entering invoices into Great Plains and ensuring they were accurate and reflected the goods produced.
I also reconciled the company credit cards matching receipts with statements.
The management team were excellent and provided me with a lot of assistance with an accounting program I hadn't used before.

This was a great job with many opportunities to grow skills. I Found the climate fast paced and I was always learning.  Met many great people who showed much commitment to the population we served.  I had a chance to grow my human resource skills and networked with other community agencies in a way that I feel left a lasting impression.  This is about community and integrity.  We go in with the sense of it, and we should leave before that sense is threatened.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with a team who cares about those less fortunate. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The system that were left to work with not having enough resources. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It can be intense at times however, people work together to be there for one another

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Getting to know each relative and showing support where it’s needed

The workplace culture is great, there is a lot of time spent making sure peoples day to day experience is the best it can be by providing snacks, massages, etc. and the office socials are amazing. Everyone is very friendly and always make time to help you when your in need. There are great training and development opportunities and you get a sense that it is a company that is going somewhere, there is always a drive to be bigger and better than before. Overall a fantastic company to work for!

Advocating with clients on a daily basis & and using crisis intervention, interpersonal and communication skills networking with other agencies. Co-workers work as a team and hardest part of the job was losing a client due to poor health or violence.Most enjoyable part of job was the appreciation by the clients for all your endeavors working for them.

Low barrier agency which serves clients that other agencies will not serve due to addications an mental health issues.
Excellent Managers, Workers have dubious work ethic due to previous lack of leadership

I found my feelings working at MSP to be mixed. Not all workers have same background and training or approaches to working with community members, this impacts community members experience as well as staff.
