Very toxic work environment. You are left on the field with zero to minimal supervision. The pay is absolutely terrible. You are always in competition with people who are only hired because they are either related to the big bosses or are family members of theirs. 
You work with people you cannot trust and will throw you under the bus the first chance they get. 
The management is also no good, some of the bosses have never worked in the field and are getting to make decisions that should involve the sheriffs who deal with the public and inmates on daily basis. 

Working conditions often include no breaks, little ability to drink water or eat throughout the day, unpredictable schedules including hours of overtime, limited ability to schedule doctors appointments etc. Management is not flexible or accommodating. Benefits only available after one year of term positions, no benefits or sick time if casual status.

Great place to work if you have a powerful personality. Pays way too low for the type of work and potential risks. Does not receive the funding for proper equipment, risk assessments or changing criminal dynamics. It will take a dead Sheriff to elicit change that can be found throughout other jurisdictions.

Job is great, something different everyday. I trusted the inmates more then I trusted 90% of the back stabbing other officers. Management promotes co-workers to"Rat" on other officers & reward people without integrity whom lie to further managements agendas.

A typical day at work was very repetitive. I found the management wasn't the best and didn't always do what needed to do to support their employees. The hardest part of the job is having really demanding lawyers to work for, when there is no support in accommodating how to make things work.

Stay as far away as you can from the Justice department!
In 5 years or less you will need mental health support! 
The shifts are awful. You are part time for over 5 years. Atmosphere is always negative as you are working with criminals everyday!

Zero management skills anywhere. Toxic work environment. No work-life balance with a constantly changing schedule, less than a day’s notice on your next shift, overtime every day. Garbage wages.

Managers treat staff like children. They are petty, giving warnings for arriving a few minutes late, wearing pants that look like denim, looking at your phone briefly. No positive feedback received for work well done, only focus on negatives. Disappointing experience 

Management was racist and discriminatory. They were condescending and tried to sabotage any upwards movement unless you were caucasian. They were not supportive of non Caucasian staff going to school.

Love it. Can be a career but also good experience to get into other law enforcement agencies. Corrections can be a challenge but as long as you keep your other lifestyle choices good you can have a long career in corrections.
