From what I see, Max Aicher purchased a building and rolling mill that was severely abused and under-maintained and it has taken years to get it running to what it can do today; the company and it's employees continue to push to make it better.  It has taken a lot of time and money to get the mill operating like it does today and I think people who first see the operations don't understand and appreciate the transformation.  The commitment from Max Aicher is nothing short of amazing; he has taken an old mule and turned it into a work horse.

It's now 2019 and the company has recently had success in adding a second shift which shows the success MANA has had in turning around the business.

Management has turned over which can be worrisome but so far I'm happy and impressed with the result.  There is genuine care for the people and the business.  New management wants this to work.

The hardest part of the job is watching the daily struggles of others.  The company still needs to be seen as a new and growing company.  Along with that are the troubles of a new and growing company, not yet running near full capacity.  Tough decisions need to be made on where to spend money and where to save.  We know things could be newer, cleaner and easier but easy is a product of success.  I have a feeling this company is on the edge of this success and it's current employees will begin to see the benefits of the success in the next couple of years.

It's only a matter of time...I'm glad to be in this company before the success.  It will be a great story to tell how I was a part of the change.  I see a bright and prosperous future here.

Advice...get in before it's too late.

I got hired at MANA straight after graduating as a Quality Engineering Coordinator in the Quality Department about 4-5 months ago now. 
I find the current stage that the business is in to be exciting because it is essentially a start-up company in a 100 year old steel mill (formerly Stelco). 

Some may find this stage to be arduous, but I find the challenge invigorating and I love feeling like I am building something. I love the team that I work with and can't wait to see all the opportunities that unfold. For instance, I am excited to be working towards my P.Eng.

I have a HUGE variety of projects that I am working on and the things I do day to day change, including product development, health and safety awareness, product certifications, calibrations, product trials, report writing, lab and equipment development, and the list goes on.
I am busy and I wouldn't have it any other way.

It is certainly a process to establish and improve our different procedures, improving communications, as well as maintaining team morale, but I am confident we will get there.

Unfortunately this company was not well managed when it took over an existing and well established business.  Had the new owner had the opportunity to have continued production and customers without the 2.5 year hiatus the company would be in a very different situation today.
Plusses:
A facility that could produce a high quality product with minimal cost;
A middle management team that is second to none in quality and leadership;
Leaving the company before we had he chance to really make things work was the hardest part of the job.
Assisting the team in making the plant run as best we could under the business conditions we faced.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The other workers are the only thing that makes this job okay.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
the lack of organization and lack of knowledge of the upper management.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
toxic, unsafe, very fast pace when things aren't broken.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
punch in and slave away for very low industry standards. try not to die from the old equipment, and shotty crane men.

Bad place to work, all the leaders think their job is more important then the
other leaders (foreman's) job.
They offered no vacation pay for first year, 30% pay cut and said there were never any lay offs at MANNA, only to be locked out after helping them start up the Mill. Can't believe anything they tell you after what they did to their workers in 2013. And you can't believe anyone who wants you
to call them "Doctor" in front of their last name.

Most of the management couldn't organize a two car parade. If you're a summer student watch your fingers from being crushed after being left alone and not supervised. If you like the company of the labor board visiting every month this is the job for you! Don't worry if they fire you, maybe just maybe they will rehire you lmao...



MANA is a great company to work for. I got hired 2 years ago and plan to stay long term. My boss treats me with respect and I get along with all employees. We are like a family.
They promote many people from within. If you stay here you can make a good career.

There is zero organization and supervision is very arrogant and have zero training to be a proper supervisor. They tell you they supply tools but everything it 100 years old and unorganized takes you longer to find the tools then to do the job. Most things don’t get fixed proper it’s just bandaid after bandaid

All departments are out to get each other. No communication between departments. Unsanitary lunch rooms and washrooms. Old steel mill that uses old technology so you can’t apply anything you learn anywhere else. Management is unorganized.

I mean it’s not the worst all the time at lest, and you can make some money but you probably won’t stay long; it and it really feels more like a circus a lot of the time because of a lack I’m communication
