MD Financial Management Inc.

As a disclaimer, I worked at MD before the pandemic so I'm not sure what it's like now. Overall, it's a good start to any recent grad looking to start their career. The employees are nice and the food in the cafeteria is great. I do believe that most of the divisions at MD are decent and that you can learn a lot in them. 

However, regarding my division and my experience it wasn't a positive experience that I hoped for. The workplace culture wasn't the greatest-I have seen employees being let go and the turnover was really high throughout the year. As a result, I think this has created additional anxiety in my department and thus the workplace culture was a bit hostile and I felt like I was expandable. Seeing knowledgeable employees going to other places made it difficult to do the work in a proper and timely manner. In addition, management's priorities were not in-line with employees' needs-there were signs that management favours their buddies more than their employees' concerns and genuinely helping employees with their problems and reach their potential. I felt undervalued, and overworked. Management is all over the place and there seems to be a lot of managers switching from one division to another which doesn't help. It seems that management's thinking was based on short-term benefits which makes problems worse. Also, in my division, I couldn't see any opportunity for job advancement in the long-run; management doesn't seem to be interested on helping me with my career interest at MD.  

On the plus side, I am thankful that MD did take a chance with me. I was able to meet employees around my age group which was great.

- working at MD is a learning curve, it enhances knowledge and experience and we get to learn a lot
- management depends upon manager to manager, overall its good
- hardest part is time management and prioritizing your work for the day and keeping on top of your work
- most enjoyable part are team meetings, team lunches, other benefits/gifts on several occasions, 2 week vacation and supportive colleagues

Growing organization which promoted advancement & learning.. A large corporate environment but would enjoy a smaller office. Enjoyed the learning opportunities. I had no problem staying the course with many software updates. Would like to find a 'better fit' with more interaction with clients and customer service.

I have worked for MD for over a year In a term position it has been a fabulous experience from the start. I have always been made to believe I am a part of the organization.  They treat there employees with the upmost respect.  I would openly tell anyone applying to go for it.

Great place to start and develop a great career that provides good merit rewards.  Constantly evolving to stay in pace with other wealth management companies.

Heavy workload but good team environment.  Training is provided but needs to improve company system to define job positions and requirements.  Clients receive excellent customer service and company is trending towards better technology for future clientele.

Great Company to work for.  The people the culture here at MD is amazing.  Beautiful Calgary Office.  Flexible work hours, work life balance, you can also work from home.  Just an amazing place to work.  Stress free, everyone cares for each other.  I would recommend MD Financial to everyone.

The corporate culture at MD Financial is extremely supportive and inclusive. They place high value on the mental health of their employees and the highest levels of management have created a safe, supportive environment. 

Enjoyed the team, the challenge and work environment.
Perks included occasionally working from home. Great boss, really cared about his team. Loads of out of office team building activities.

Enjoyed interacting with the clients (internal)

A good company to work for with lots of room for advancement.

Pros:
Good workplace culture, and room for lateral/promotional moves if you put in the work.

Cons:
Too many short term/contract positions without benefits and low pay.
