I enjoyed working there, Had many opportunities for training that I took advantage to further my knowledge to help the community, The environment  was challenging at times , I leaned how do deal with conflict resolutions with volunteers in the kitchen, and with the community to resolve problematic situations.
     Are slogan was We All Work Together To Help One Another, which was true ,as we said it everyday
     I enjoyed the compliments from the community upon when serving coffee, lunch, dinner, The community often gave presents like flowers, or vegetables from there gardens , to the volunteers and staff.

Loved the work and the people that I got assist.  The company itself has no loyalty towards the staff.  Personally, I was blindsided, after a decade, and let go without good cause.  The only reason, that I could see, was that I had surgery in one week and my medical insurance was pulled immediately.  Jobless and medically unfit to work anywhere with no coverage for medicine.  Even was cheated out of one day.  

Staff are continually asked/expected to go above and beyond.  Mamawi does not, however, feel an urge to treat the staff with basic human kindness.

I would strongly recommend not making a commitment to a company that can not commit to their employees

A typical day at work requires you to read all logs and sign in. The day usually consists of making sure the boys who live in the home are taken care of, eg: fed, clean, appointments are booked, scheduled or attended. Logging all of the boys days, factual reporting.
Co-Worker's are great, they are responsible and essential to the workplace. They keep the home in balance.
Hardest part of the job would be when crisis's occur. 
Most enjoyable part of the job is working and doing activities with the youth, bonding is lovely, sometimes hard, but when you break down that wall, it is a feeling of success and accomplishment.

I used to be a formal employee for years at this establishment. It was my dream place to work, assisted in numerous work and volunteer opportunities, the staff there is favored, if you aren't apart of their staff's family than you are not prioritized. I was an Indigenous staff that worked hard at my job and I was constantly faced with backlash from other immature staff members. This non-profit organization used to be so fun to work at, and to participate in youth councils but I was one of the few that was pushed out. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
They had meaningful dinner parties and good code of ethics.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My Teamlead was condescending and rude n did not keep things confidential between emploee n herself. Never approved appointment requests/ time off on a timely manner.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was unorganized. But, the ideas were good.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was stressful. But, repetitive and at times unsupportive

When I first started working at Ma Mawi the work culture was amazing. I had the opportunity to learn from some amazing women who imparted their wisdom and experience on me and taught me that no matter what the situation is, you can always approach it with kindness and compassion. Unfortunately since the current Director is in power, Ma Mawi has lost most of its long term staff and the culture has changed.

Learned community outreach, relationship building and mentoring. I listened to the stories of everyone who I saw.  Workplace culture was poor. The hardest part of the job was lack of communication from staff members.  The most enjoyable part is the community members. They make it worth while. Even with the rise in violent encounters while on shift.

Thw work is very stressful. You always feel on edge and worried about things going wrong. Management is very micromanging and not very supportive unless they need you for something. Makes it hard to support employees when the funders come before anything else. Management isn't trustworthy and will turn on you no problem, no matter how much you've done for them or how hard you've worked.

Its been awhile since i worked there but i did visit and involved myself with events there.  
There are so many people there that make community residents feel like thats thier place too.  They will never turn anyone away and make everyone feel at home.  They have so many programs there that will help winnipeg residents to cope with alot of problems inner city people have to deal with on a daily basis.

The director of the care programs is educational intelligent but not emotionally. She is often very harsh to staff. Which effects your willingness to work. 
Mamawi doesn't pay enough it is not enough to live off of. 

Overall it is a great place to work. They promote culture and diversity.
