Some wonderful people in finance and some bad apples are kept which really lower the morale. 

Extreme favouritism is given to older employees, they over look bad habits and allow situations to occur that others would be let go for. Some make massive mistakes and it's overseen. 

Can't approach the president to discuss any findings or to report rude or condescending higher ups. Told by managers if you do it's a gamble for your job -sets a bad morale and makes people leave. Recommend a suggestion box or something confidential so employees can feel heard. 

Lack of organization on acquisitions of new sites which is frustrating for those divisions and those employees at head office working with them. 

It seems that people aren't held accountable for much. Issues reoccur. Employees from the divisions don't always do their tasks and you constantly have to find a work around. 

Good benefits and decent pay. Staff lunch every first Friday of the month. Nice Christmas party and bonus to employees. Dress is business formal/casual. No jeans allowed. Mostly all cubicles layout. 

I was fortunate to report to the controller whom was an amazing supervisor and had an open door policy. I also worked alongside the AP manager who is a wonderful asset to their team.

Overall a decent place to work. Like many companies there are things they really need to work on.

Unfortunately no exit interview was given. 

My experience with MacEwen Petroleum was a very positive one. I worked out of Kemptville. I was introduced to everyone and found all to be very easy going, personable, friendly, and caring. The staff as well as the managers were very easy to get along with and genuinely good people who talked to me politely and treated me with respect and care. I was trained by someone who did an excellent job at being patient and took the time to explain things through so I was able to operate, load, and unload the fuel trucks properly and in a safe manner. 
Overall my experience was a great one. I developed good relationships with everyone and felt welcomed. All the drivers I got to meet were very down to earth people, hard-working, and patient with me. They were able to teach me many things, in which they all explained it through so I understood it confidently. Overall the office staff. managers and all workers through the Kemptville area are great people to work for.

What is the best part of working at the company?
If you are willing to trade a day’s pay for an honest day’s work, senior management respects shows their appreciation in various ways.  If you show entitlement on a large scale, you may as well move on 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You act as your own boss for the most part,  Make sure you put the right type of fuel in the right tank every time,  Do it safely and be courteous.  My hardest boss to get along with is me

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Mostly amicable . Workers here tend to get along with everyone.  Things seem to change quickly and people always seem to rise to the occasion 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Looking at a computer screen and because of me extended experience, I tend to do a lot of mentoring

The company does treat it's employees to gifts and seems to be quite understanding when time needed off etc - which is great and much appreciated. The pay was good and the benefits were great!
However, there is a major disconnect when it comes to training, reviews, management & HR. It really looks like a "them against us" when it comes to management & staff. Unfortunately by the time this is realized it's generally too late. 
Working as part of a team is extremely important, however, some departments have cliques which makes this almost impossible to join. After my time with this company I have had no less than 6 previous employees come forward with the same concerns.
There was always lots of work, which was great!


What is the best part of working at the company?
They push you around and you don’t even know weather or not you will have a job on a Wednesday or Thursday

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The dispatcher you don’t know where the work is. You have to set it up yourself and instead of them, setting it up and doing their job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The drivers and the people that work on the floor and repair things are good people that gets pushed around by management

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You work hard and the people that’s there are good to work with except for the people upstairs

MacEwens as a whole is “meh” and corporate doesn’t seem to know how to effectively communicate, the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. So often times, their unnecessary walk-ins to check on the store are completely unnecessary and they complain about the most pointless useless things that don’t matter. My boss (the franchisee) is an amazing boss and working for her is the only reason why I stuck around. She motivates, encourages and leads by example. It’s a typical retail job in that, you’ll get good customers and bad customers, you just have to smile through it all and enjoy yourself however you can.

Individual sites are a goid mix of excelkent running sites and deficient sites. The company is working to build itself up to be part if the big leagues. 

Individual retailers manage both the staff needs vs company requirements. 

I give the retail level and individual sites 4 stars. Short one star for lack of benefits. I give the company itself, 3 stars because there seems to be deficiency in organization moving into the big leagues. The owners of the company seem to focus on revenue building rather than clientele and B2B building.

I learned to develop strong communication skills with this job, thus leading to me to pursue social work. 
Management was tough as it was switched over a few times but as a chain store this is to be expected. 
The workplace culture was pleasant among staff but often times you are working alone depending on the size of the Mac Ewen. Which leads me to the hardest part of the job and that was the location, many times employees were quite frightened to work alone at night due to the fear of people robbing the store.
The most enjoyable part would have been all the people I had the opportunity to meet and learn so much from.

-Easy going day, serve customers and talk to regular customers.

-I have learned time management, hands on skills, cleaning, interpersonal and social skills.

-Great management and employees always are appreciated, easy going bosses and flexible on days off and switching work shifts between employees.

-Co-workers are great! Friendly, social, and responsible.

-The hardest part of the job is to handle both the cash and the gases that come. With good work ethic its not impossible to handle everything as I have been doing so for many years.

-The best part of the job is to have a social life at work, and make new friends in the community.

The other drivers are good, the pay is fair, but after that it’s all downhill. The uniforms provided arnt proper for fuel haulers, the office spends a shocking amount of time for even office staff talking poorly about everyone else from other offices, drivers, management and customers, especially when MacEWEN has made a mistake and they need to do more work to do the job properly. They will also run equipment with problems like busted speedometers and if you bring it up they pretend they knew nothing about it and it should be fixed yet they just find someone willing to run it. End of the day this is just another dysfunctional company that says one thing yet expects something else.
