Macro Properties

Having work-life balance is very important to me and in my 7 years there was never an issue with flexibility on hours to accommodate events in my personal life. I must note though that the flex time is a perk given by the current Property Manager of my portfolio and does not necessarily reflect the views of head office.

The ownership believes strongly in education, and Macro has a very fair policy on training opportunities. If a certificate course can benefit both parties, you are almost surely guaranteed to receive approval.

There are not set pay rates based on position. You are essentially paid what they think you are worth. This works out well for some compared to set rates, but not so much for others. I personally am completely content with my compensation for bringing skilled labour to the maintenance department.

There is never a shortage of work to be done, but maintenance can be frustrating due to a lack of future thinking. The general mentality is "how can this be done economically right now?' rather than considering spending a bit more on material or effort to save in the future. You will also be coming in behind paid contractors to handle their oversights after renovations, which can become disheartening.

There is a lack of communication amongst staff and management, and a lack of "team" mentality. Hierarchy, title, and interpretation of job description rule rather than teamwork based on the strengths and weaknesses of all staff. Often it feels like everybody wanders in each week and bumps in to one another while hopefully accomplishing tasks. It is of great personal benefit to be able to see what needs to be done and take your own initiative to just complete those tasks without waiting for the idea to go through the chain of command.

Safety training is kept up to date and there are safety guidelines on paper but one needs the resolve to say no to work procedure sometimes, as there is a cavalier attitude towards safety. This is especially prominent when following safety guidelines means outsourcing a task to a contractor.

Like anyone you would spend 40 hours per week with, your coworkers can get on your nerves but generally everybody gets along very well and the atmosphere created when the workers are together helps with decompression.

The current Property Manager is great for having your back with difficult tenants when the situation warrants it.

There are no shortages of staff lunches. Ending the day early on Fridays during the summer are not guaranteed but have been consistent. The current Property Manager aims for tenant retention, which makes it much easier to gain timely approval for repairs, which means less people angry at the person fixing their suite.

Overall, I would recommend Macro as a potential employer but with disclaimers. If you come from a higher performance field, you may be very frustrated working here. If you are content with whatever happens day to day, there are never ending repairs/plenty of work and some good perks.

Working for Macro Properties is always something new, each and every single day. Management is always helpful, inclusive, and always willing to teach a new skill or task. They are respectful and believe in actually helping a person learn instead of constant negativity. As my job changes on a daily basis, I never really know what the day is going to bring. As an Administrator, I work with both management and the public in things like leasing, showings, documentation, complaints, etc. I also do more behind the scenes, such as a newsletter, accounts receivable, accounts payable, scheduling appointments and contractors, etc. I've learned an incredible amount from not only my immediate manager (who is probably the best manager I've ever had the pleasure of working with) but our Head Office team in Toronto is also awesome to work with.

I started working with Macro Properties in 2019 as a Contracted Maintenance worker and within a few months moved into a permanent employee role in the Maintenance Department. A year later, I moved into the Administration Role and have been here for just over a year.

My day starts with the regular customer's early arrival-due to early shifts they work, always a pleasure to see on a regular basis!
Whether for just a cup of coffee and a sandwich to go, or a full meal.
I've gotten along well with all fellow co-workers, and was sad when the company decided to close the business.
The hardest part of the job, was when a co-worker was a no show, and I had to work solo on a very busy day-of which was just about every day.
And for the most enjoyable part, was meeting different customers from around the world and seeing repeat ones on a daily or weekly basis.

As an office administrator at Macro Properties, I find great satisfaction in my role. My daily tasks include collecting rent, processing invoices, managing work orders and communicating with our tenants. While the variety keeps me engaged, the most rewarding aspect is witnessing the joy of new tenants moving into their homes. Out teams consistent occupancy rate presents a challenge, as it's tough not being able to accommodate everyone who applies. However, this is a testament to the quality of service and properties we offer. I am fortunate to work under a manger who embodies respect, understanding, and a strong work ethic. Their leadership creates a positive and supportive environment, making Macro Properties a great place to work.

Enjoyed working gor the company.  Upper management usually cordial and easy to talk to.  Always a new adventure daily .  As former maintenance then working in office driving to the various properties mainly tenant relations, company did pay for my fuel with an allowance for repairs.   Coming from private management then provincial government housing it was a learning curve however senior management always willing to answer any queries. 

The staff were great to work with and most everything was a team effort. Being in the maintenance dept. there was always something new or challenging to do and learn. The Manager and Supervisor were always very supportive. I always enjoyed working with the building tenants and looking after their needs. One of the most challenging parts of the job which became the most fulfilling, was troubleshooting building equipment and HVAC system problems.

If you are skilled and knowledgeable worker, don’t waste your time to apply or work here in prince rupert macro properties. Manager and supervisor will do their best to  screw you and blame you on their own mistake because they afraid if somebody much better on them. Main office they are very good but they don’t know what are real problem in prince rupert macro properties.

Macro Properties has been a great company to work for, to help me grow my skills, my self confidence and its being part of a team!  My days are filled and busy, always something new and challenging. The team support is phenomenal and there is always an ear to listen and advice to find! I am treated fairly, we have great workshops and weekly meetings to keep in touch and updated. It has truly been a great experience!

My HR position with Macro Properties has been a highlight of my career. I enjoy working closely with our employees and Head Office team members on a daily basis. Our employees's wellness, training, work environment, compensation, health and safety, growth, engagement, and feedback, are all top of mind in every area of our business! Our managers are incredible leaders who value their teams.

Best company to work for in Toronto. If I didn’t move my family. I’d still be there. Always treated like family by owners. Great upper management.
