Macs Convenience Store

As I'm a field staff I'm as such working 24 hours, as I'm in contact with my dealers through Blackberry all the time. I get up in the morning, check my emails and respond to them. Check competitor prices and Gas surveys and change the Gas price accordingly according to the company policies. Then I'll be out in the field visiting my dealers, discussing about their problems and talking about the latest promotions and other Call to action for that period. If they need anything and it is available in my trunk I'll get it for them or else bring it on my next visit. I like visiting dealers and listening to their problems and suggestions about improving the standards, I do tell them the limitations of the company and whatever help I can provide to increase the sales I go forward and do it. A dealer visit is a great experience about getting information about competitor activities, dealer requirements, company's image, learning something new everyday, making new friends, implementing company's policies, discussing dealer problems and solving them, it is a personal contact and means a lot to our business partners i.e. our dealers. I visit 2 -3 dealers everyday and make sure I stay with them for 2 -3 hours and discuss everything that I've on my weekly organizer. It is always better to go in details whenever you are visiting your dealers to utilize the time to the maximum. By properly organizing myself I save time and repeated visits every now and then.
The management at our office is very helpful and friendly. Our Director has a Monday meeting at the start of the month where he discuss about the important things to be done and other tasks to emphasize along with our routine chores. He shares his experience with us and helps us if we need any.
The co-workers are very helpful, whenever we have a new team member joining our team we all try to help him learn about the job as comfortably and easily as possible. We teach each other about the new things we learn, as someone maybe good at one thing and weak at other.
I don't think that my job is hard, I've job satisfaction and I like meeting and interacting with new people, like helping and educating my dealers, always created a very friendly but firm relationship with my dealers. There is a mutual respect for each other.
When I'm in the field visiting my dealers, meeting and explaining prospective dealers about the company expectations and how they can become a successful partner with us, I enjoy that part a lot.
In the evening I go back home, check email and submit reports to my Manager if any.

Each and every Mac's is going to be run just a tiny bit differently then the last due to factors like location, traffic, stock and staff. That being said I've had the joy of working at both a good and a not so good store. A typical shift is going to involve a lot of tiny things like sweeping and moping, filling shelves, and working with money. At times these things can seem like a lot to remember, but each thing is only small and you learn them very quickly. Like brushing your teeth, getting dressed, making coffee, getting gas, charging your phone etc it all falls into place, I promise!! The hardest part when you start is going to be getting used to where things are in the store and remembering the codes for the til. The more you try to learn, the faster you will, so don't be afraid. When you get to know your customers they will become your friends! The hardest thing after that is dealing with grouchy customers that seem like they are out to ruin your day. My advice: find time for a large coffee or a smoke and move on! They go away, and your day continues just fine. The best part of the job is when your best customers come in; the ones who think your the bomb. They smile and wave and you know that their day was just made better by seeing you behind the counter and not someone else. You feel like a super hero. That, and when little kids come in. They are SO cute! And so nice and fun to help. Every store you work at has the chance to become like home to you, but at Mac's, they make it priority. Joining the Mac's family (with the right manager!!!!) is the best customer service job I can think of. Good luck!!

Where to begin.  If you’re hired, Keep your eyes open. 

First of all. They OWN you. Literally. Don’t believe the work life balance promises. Get used to calls at all hours of the night and be prepared to work weekends without being ‘asked’ 

Management functions solely on self preservation. In the area I worked in alone, five Market Managers have been through the revolving door in the last couple years. Backstabbing and openly criticizing other managers is commonplace and apparently ok. You will see for yourself if you are hired into this disorganized mess. 

I’ve honestly never worked anywhere where I’ve seen more inept upper management. My direct supervisor alone was the worst manager I’ve had the curse of working under in all the years of retail I’ve worked.  This individual has been responsible for losing so many good people and is never held accountable. 

Save yourself some hope. Apply anywhere else. You will be set up to fail from the very beginning. 

My main regret is I should have reached out to the people I was to replace shortly after I was hired to learn the truth. It would have saved me some time find out the truth and leave this mess way earlier than I did.

A typical day at work would include meeting up with my work partner and evaluating the days events to ensure the rig is equipped with all the necessary supplies. We would call the event coordinator for any last minute information and then drive the truck and trailer to the event. At the event we need to set up the equipment and serve cold Frosters while promoting the Brand name and talking to people about the program and services offered.

After a weeks events I was required to supply corporate office with post evaluations for the events, expense forms and ROI for the week.

I learned a great deal about evaluating the effectiveness of the marketing program and problem solving when things don't work out as planned.

As a two person team working together 24-7 all summer, you learn to work in harmony with another person and to respect each others working decisions. You also learn a lot about communicating opinions and making suggestions in a way that s respectful and supportive.

The hardest part about my job was communicating with my co-worker in a way that was constructive without being objective.

The most enjoyable part of the job by far was meeting new people all the time.

for cashier/drive-thru it was clock in and wash hands get to work taking orders and getting the orders together and handing them out to the right customer, dealt with cash, debit and credit card transactions and also balanced tills
for maintanence it was cleaning the grill, floors and doing dishes
for cook it was preparing the burgers and cooking the meat, stocking the freezers with what was needed, counting what was thrown out

what i learned was how to operate a till and how to work under stress plus how to coordinate my time to help everyone when my work is done

management was great very nice and helpful when needed

co-workers were very nice and helpful with answers to questions or anything someone wasn't sure of

hardest part of the job was to learn how to work under stress and how to leave my problems at the door when i can into work

the most enjoyable part of the job was the challenges and the staff events that was organized by management

I strive for excellence in all we do. I am ambitious first and foremost for the cause, the organization, the work- not ourselves. I demonstrate an iron will to do whatever it takes to make good on that ambition.

Our Company recruit, retain, and promote based on qualifications and attitude. Their i found that the company encourage the continued education and training of their work force. They appreciate and recognize the balance between work and family. Families are important.

We as team respect and honor each other, communicate openly and include all involved parties in the decision making process. They facilitate creative thinking and consider all input.

Convenience Store Employee Works under the direction of store manager to perform cashiering, cleaning, stocking and inventory duties.

A typical day at work consists of counting the lottery, cleaning coolers, mopping floors and working with the public. I've learned quite a bit from working at Mac's. I learned that I have very good communication skills with customers. I also learned that I am able to work shift work and long hours. My manager was a great person. She was very understanding when there was any issues. She would always compliment you if you did a good job. But she was always able to give you constructive criticism if you did not complete a task in the proper format. I had a great relationship with all my co workers. I got along well if everyone and I always tried to make the workplace more enjoyable. The hardest part of my job would be doing inventory. It was a very long process and you had to make sure you counted everything! The most enjoyable part of my job was serving the customers. I had a lot of regulars that came in everyday and they always made me laugh. I love communicating with the public and I can build a re-pore with people very fast.

i started this job working weekend midnight with a dealer and over the next few year they started to leave me with the responablity of the keys when they went away and proved to them i could be trusted them the dealer moved stores and the macs head office left me in charge for over a year runing it a a corprate store then they sent me to do training at head office when the put in the bank machines and the new pos cash registers then they put in a new dealer in and the new dealer kept the staff and then slow let everyone go at the time i just found out i was pregant  he keep me for little while til he felt comfortable inputting invoice  then he let me go saying he couldnt afford all the staff. the hardest part was trying to do everything right and it was also what i enjoyed was working with the customer and staff manged scheduling staff bank deposits working straight days im putting invioces and ordering product  and alway learning more 

Being the Asst. Manager is doing a managers job with less benefits. The day begins with the Gas survey and taking decisions to raise or decrease the Gas price for the particular store. Usual days I'll have to  do jobs a regular cashier till i the next shift personal comes. Take inventory and make orders of the products that are short of. When the shipment arrives verify the delivery and place them at their particular locations. Also administer the proper maintaining of the store, its cleanliness. Look upon the customer complaints and assist them to have a complete satisfaction of their experience at the store.
Hardest part was to run the store with a single shift personal and also do all the chores like making and receiving orders. Enjoyable part is the satisfaction at the end of the day of being able to complete all the work with the least number of employees.

the day starts with a regular duty of reviewing the paperwork and cash sheets. but as the day progresses, i have lots to do so the time goes by very fast. i have worked in other companies as a manager but some of them were too much reliable on manager and some of them were boring and had no advancement opportunities. but in Mac's; there are always opportunities available and if you deserve for the job then you will get it. also the flexibility of schedule is the most important aspect of the job and for me it stills the show. the hardest part is to continuously perform and hit the expectations of the company with all the day to day duties to perform. sometimes it can be exhausting but the best part is if i feel frustrated then i can have all the help i need from by bosses, co managers and the staff.
