Magnotta Winery Corporation

A typical day at Magnotta included greeting customers, offering wine tastings, running the bistro solo, ensuring product is stocked and front faced. Washrooms cleaned, floors swept and mopped. Helping the manager do there job as they are always running around with a scatter brain. Dealing with customer requests and complaints. Also helping customers with carry Out's. 

I learned alot about wine and how it's made and what types of grapes are used to make it.  I also learned about flavour profiles and scent profiles. 

Management will let you go for no good reason and say it just isn't working out even though you work really hard for them. They had to let people go with severance because they just didn't like them even though they did the job correctly. I suspect racial differences and that is very wrong. 

It should be an easy going laid back atmosphere however, the chaos behind the scenes is a bit wild. They demand alot from cashier's but don't pay much for the work you do. 

No benefits or dental. 

The hardest part of the job is dealing with managements unorganized chaos. There end of day routine is extremely outdated and very confusing. They really need to update the point of sales system. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is the customers and helping them choose the right wine for there occasion. 





I was hired when they opened. I experienced 
two locations, Cambridge and Kitchener. I started part time while I was in school (this company worked around my school hours) and when the management saw i was done school they offered me fulltime which I was very excited about. I had so many cool experiences working for Magnotta. I ended up getting a job for what I went to school for so unfortunately I had to resign after a year. Thank you magnotta for working with me, I appreciate all you did for me and I learned a lot that will help me in my future.

Worked at the Beamsville/Niagara location as an Assistant Manager. Didn't feel like I was an AM, only when it was convenient for the Store Manager or when she didn't want to do something. Micro managed beyond belief. Wasn't allowed to participate in any decision making. Store manager and upper management played favourites. A few employees got away with everything while others (or most) got heck for even breathing. Pay was good. Work/life balance was  mediocre. Was told at hire I would get one weekend off a month, that did not happen. E

Very good place to work if you are a student, in high school or university, looking for retail. The beginning is a little bit of work, as there is a lot of product knowledge involved, and learning about wine (of course because you're selling it). It is not too hard, you can do it little by little, and overall it is kinda fun. Management is very flexible with work hours, and understanding that you're a student, which was amazing! great location to work at.

Very poorly managed company from top to bottom.  Head office does not care for their retail employees who make their sales.  Zero chance for a pay raise or advancement. 

The job description says this is a open door company who appreciates ideas and leadership but actually shuts down any ideas or opinions which are given by employees. 

Would not recommend to anyone. 

I started as a Retail Sales Associate and promoted to Key Holder.  My manager and supervisor have been great in teaching me all about wines, beer, and spirts, food pairings, and how to deal with customers.  This is a great place to work, employees, and managers make working every day fun to be. 
Management is very helpful they listen and ask for feed back all the time.

Magnotta was the best retail/customer service job I've had in my many years working in the industry. The biggest pro working there was management really has your back. If a customer treated you negatively, they were addressed. You weren't expected to take abuse from people. The pay was standard minimum wage but it was a fun working environment and hours were plentiful. They also did their best to give you a good work/life balance. 

Can be very busy but also very rewarding.  Company/owners care about their employees and recognizes their efforts by providing perks, etc...
There are many long tenure employees at Magnotta.
Very safe place to work.  Health and Safety is paramount for Magnotta employees. 
There is a lot to learn working here and the owners are in support of accelerating your career for future advancement.

Working in the wine industry is a rewarding and you get to learn a lot.
The business is family owned and run. Open door policy and friendly work environment. Not a big box stores so you are treated like a human being, and not a number. Fair advancement opportunities in middle management. Lots of long tenured employees in all departments.

Terrible place to work. I was there for 
a long time and barely made enough, they expect you to do so much with such little pay and proper training. They have so many rules and regulations, they will work you to the bone. Don’t even get me started on management, it’s absolutely terrible. They come with rules and policies as they go and act as if it is life or death.
