Mahogany Salon and Spa

I worked at Mahogany Salon and Spa for almost a year as a GSR. For the most part, the staff was very friendly and welcoming and I did enjoy it. The management team did go out of their way to give recognition and we were always shown appreciation with gifts and rewards. There were a lot of perks to working there.

The downside was that it was long hours and little pay. The GSR team works extremely hard and they probably have the most stressful job of the lot, so I feel like they deserve better pay and benefits. We would usually work on average 9-hour days and the whole time we were standing on our feet and supposed to be wearing fashionable footwear, like flats and sandals. We were given a one hour break per shift, so essentially standing for 8 hours a day, which, like I said, was tough. 

There also wasn't really much room for advancement. 

It is an upscale salon and spa, so I found that some staff and management could be rather uppity. I found a couple of managers to be mean to staff when they were just doing their best. I really liked the owners though. 

All in all, it was okay. Not the worst job but not the best job.

I found my time at Mahogany very rewarding and I learned a lot about being part of a good team. As someone who was newer to the industry I was nervous at first but I received excellent training from management and my team members and the owners.  The training I received there has served me well in my career. It is a steady pace each day, and you will have the opportunity to make many clients of your own. They have been around for 15 plus years and that alone says something. The only reason I left is that I moved away.  I often find myself comparing my current workplace to Mahogany and how well it was run. 

My typical day at work was to ensure that the workplace had all the necessary supplies nrequired for nthe workers at the Spa. Ensuring cleanliness and safety requirements were met to prevent any adverse effects to the customers.
I learned the value of cleanliness, how to ensure others adhered to the protocol for cleanliness and the value of good work habits.
My co-workers were professionals who manage client spa needs and treated them with respect.
I did not find much to complain about, but the most enjoyable part of my job was the comeraderie with the other staff and our employer

I love coming to work everyday.  I feel when I leave work that I have been treated respectfully by my co-workers and managers.  I really like their management style of their open door policy.  I enjoy the fact that I can go to them with questions, feedback or concerns at anytime.  
One of the reasons that I have chosen to work at Mahogany is their training and continued education.  A day doesn't go by that I haven't learned something.  If there is a skill that you are really wanting to learn this company helps you achieve that.

A typical day here includes being worked to the bone - you probably will not get a lunch and they will make you will also have to stay late for your guests. All that work and they will not appreciate anything you do for them. To them the staff is all replaceable - direct managerial quote right there. Dont waste your time and find a place that will value you. If you're set on working here and making this place work there is lots of training opportunities....but at what cost are these worth, heed with caution.

Mahogany salon and spa is great place to work if you like to be busy and booked. The esthetics salon and gsr teams are awesome. You will meet the most hard working and nicest people. however the main issues at Mahogany lies within its lack of leadership and the unsafe environment they create. Unfortunately I strongly believe that this will not change and with be the ultimate death of the spa. It is also why their is so much turn over and they lose the best of the best.

Working at Mahogany taught me so much. The staff and management are friendly, welcoming and helpful and are always offering opportunities for training and development in all departments. The culture of the workplace is professional but fun and I loved working with clients and staff everyday. 

Management was rude and untrustworthy. They were nice at first and than showed their true colors after you had been there for a bit. Told me in the interview they had a large turnover because the job was a difficult one and not many people could handle it. Come to find out it was actually due to the Management. Save yourself the time and apply somewhere that will appreciate you. 

Everybody understands what they are to do in providing an excellent customer experience. 
Many perks like free lunches and treats the owners bring in fairly regularly. 
Everyone feels valued and included in the company plans and direction. 
Great place to work. 

Workers are great very supportive and easy to get along with, clientele is awesome very appreciative of the effort you as an esthetician put into them. The TEAM is great, GSRs, Hairstylists, Esthesticians and Laundresses work hard together to make a nice work environment.
