Making Waves Swim School

A good day at Making Waves for me would be opening the pool getting everything ready for the day. Then teaching my students  And lastly closing the pool. We all wish when we go to work that it will be an easy day. But unfortunately, that is not the case. The hardest part of my job was making sure parents are happy with the service they are getting. If there were issues we had to make sure I understood the problem and tell the parent what I would do to make it right and make sure it happened and that they are satisfied.  Throughout this typical day at work, the best part would be working with my peers. The reason for this is because they culture in the workplace is easy going as well as making sure we got our job done. What I learned working at making waves was how to make sure all parents were happy.  That was done by letting them talk, while you listen and understand what they are trying to say and then help solve their problem.

When working here you have to start as a coach whether or not you have previous training and are qualified enough to become a head coach or supervisor. They only promote within company. Management isn't on site often so that could be a good or bad thing depending on you. You only get 2 shifts off per 10 shifts and you have to find your own cover in advance which can be difficult if you suddenly get sick and management gets mad at you for that when there is no real way that you could've predicted it. Also if you go to school and are planning to return in the summer, I highly caution you. I worked there for 2 years and when I was planning to return, they only gave me 2 shifts even though I said I was available for 10 a week and gave all the shifts to new people. 

y experience working at Making Waves Swim School was very disappointing. A major reason was the management style of Marcy. I found her to be rude, dismissive, and inconsistent in how staff were treated. There appeared to be clear favoritism, which created an unfair and frustrating work environment for many employees.

The company also maintained very strict makeup lesson policies that often seemed unreasonable for families. As an employee, I did not feel supported or valued, and I felt there was a lack of respect and understanding toward staff from different cultural backgrounds.

Overall, I would not recommend Making Waves Swim School as a place to work. The workplace culture, management practices, and lack of inclusivity made it a negative experience.

The only bonus to working here is seeing the little kiddos and being part of the little family the team has become. As soon as senior management is brought in, it becomes hard to see the bigger picture and remember why you took or even enjoyed this job in the first place. Heaven forbid you make one honest mistake, regardless if you are able to/did fix it, you will be let go. They claim communication is of the utmost importance but never actually talk the talk, staff and clients can see how poor communication truly is. The hours are outrageous as well. There are plenty of other swim schools, this is not one that I would recommend to anyone. Both employee wise and client wise.

-a welcoming workplace, with people to greet you as you walk in for your shift and many people the same as age me to have conversations with 
-hardest part of the job would be keeping your class in order when you have a crazy class or when one student needing more working on than the others 
-most enjoyable part of the job would be knowing that you're making a difference in a families life each time a student perfects a skill

Making Waves is a very lively place to work, the staff and management are great and understanding, and they provide opportunities for advancement. Class sizes are small, you always have access to help if you need it, and it's pretty easy to catch on to the system. The interview was very easy, you just get in the water for a couple hours and help out the instructors. There are only two downsides, sometimes things like report cards can get a little unorganized, and as of right now, pay advancement is not at the same rate as working with the city. Despite this, I think Making Waves is a wonderful place to work.

One of the greatest jobs you could possibly pick up as a teen or young adult! Awesome staff and upper management while I was there, both the trainings and modules are incredibly structured and you can tell the company truly does care about their work, employees and clients! Learnt and picked up so much from this place and I'm grateful to have been able to experienced it. Patient & Flexible

On a typical day, you would go in. Teach kids. All while the head instructors are talking, doing absolutely nothing. Also, to become a head instructor is very hard, you normally work for 2 years and have to have a good pass/fail rate. Kids are usually hard to teach. And the hours are long, a shift is normally 5 hours. Management will normally also pressure you into taking more hours or another shift.

This job offered a lot of opportunity to grow as an entrepreneur and a teacher. I was able to implement my own creativity along side the standard guideline of the course, and eventually got promoted to head instructor in order to oversee multiple classes at a time. I also met many of friends here and was able to make connections through parents.

Making Waves has a team-based atmosphere that is very conductive to productivity and overall work enjoyment. The staff roles are excellently segregated and very clear, however, there are too many certifications required to advance to decently-paid roles.
