Overall an excellent place to work. I suppose I just fell out of love sort of speak with the job/type of work. There is ample opportunity to move around within the company and province. They are extremely supportive and understanding towards life issues. Holidays are plentiful after so much time. They offer moving expenses paid for. The benefits have changed hands and been reduced, not a huge change but some. 
What I dislike is how they have transitioned as a whole. They have left PR in the dust and removed almost all sense of community with the exception to the major centres to indicate saving money but I can’t see that it has saved anything. The company is so top heavy with Executives is gross. The ability to go and do your job without political BS is non existent and certain employees look for every reason to attempt to get out of work or push back at any directives. 900 and some employees left during our VDP and it feels like the work load is killing the current employees with no help in sight. Another 800 eligible (allegedly) to retire. 

We had five different sections in our department. Each month we would rotate sections. In a typical day I would microfilm account payable, retrieve drawings, make c size prints, work in the darkroom or microfilm the drawings. I also answered the phone and took orders for drawings etc.
We would get new equipment all the time and I would learn how the operate it. When I worked here there were courses on how to communicate and dealing effectively with fellow employees, other departments were our customers.

The management was excellent. They encouraged me to take courses, continue learning and challenge myself continually. This company believed in their employees and it showed.

It has been a while since I worked there and I can’t think of anything that was negative about this position. I enjoyed learning new equipment and taking courses. Overall everything.

Hydro Old days the older generation got to experience is over. Management is in for itself. went against workers rights during covid and forced testing amongst employees at the time. We all showed up every day and busted our butts for out foreman/ sup. our lead hands were top notch guys and 95% got along. There is always one brown nose kinda guy. generally great guys to work with. Pay is garbage in the world and day. barely make ends meat starting off. cant get training or little perks for pay increases. management wants free labour. Management shows up to sites not wearing safety boots, glasses, or sometimes hard hats. it's just a hit and miss really. like any company. the only problem I had was with management acting like power tripping non leaders.

Manitoba Hydro's culture has taken a horrible turn for the worst in the past decade or so. Due to the many projects that were on the books the internal engineering groups felt it was a perfect opportunity to bolster their numbers so they hired probably twice as many new engineers to put in high ranking positions. Most of these individuals were fish out of water and the arrogent kids they hired straight out of University came with zero experience or knowledge and they were very bad at performing their duties. If you were not an engineer you were irrelevant...this disrespectful attitude was felt through the corporation and moral is still at an all time low.

Two thumbs down for Manitoba Hydro!

- typical day was nine hours long that included completing work package for the day with two fifteen minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch break
- I learned the skills of power electrician and station operator that required working both independently and with a team to achieve a certain goal
- management was able to supply the tools and resources necessary to complete job tasks
- fellow staff were amazing to work with as we worked together as a cohesive unit complete with mutual respect
- the hardest part of the job was the isolation in northern manitoba
- completing your task for the day and going home safely was the most enjoyable part of the job

I have worked at the hydroelectric construction site, project planning and currently as a maintenance engineer. A typical work day is usually busy such as providing engineering assistance to the field workers, visiting sites and attending both internal and external meetings.

I have learnt new ways of getting things done, better ways of managing subordinates and best practice cost reduction strategies.

Excellent coworkers that fit perfectly well as a team. The hardest part of the job is supporting the electric and natural gas franchise of the company. The most enjoyable part of the job is the yearly performance increment.

I worked for Manitoba Hydro for 17 years. You will find that most people that are employed with Manitoba Hydro are long-standing employees, my 17 years is nothing compared to most people that have been with this company. Advancement can be tricky, the one aspect of the company that I always felt needed Improvement was nepotism, however, it is an excellent company in so many other ways. The employees of this company are amazing; friendly, outgoing, and hardworking. I enjoyed my years there very much. It is a well-paying company with excellent benefits and retirement opportunities. It was only due to relocation opportunity that I took an early retirement.

MH is a good company but suffers at times with government interference or politics playing too much of a part in decision making. Like any company has some employees with a subpar work ethic or sense of entitlement but overall the people are great. 
If you're willing to work hard and improve yourself there are plenty of opportunities to advance.
I worked 32 yrs with the company and many of my personal friends are people I worked with. I feel very fortunate to have made career there.

Been with Hydro for almost 20 years. I've stayed so long because of my co workers. Typical day is organizing work loads solving problems, answering emails and telephone calls. Workplace culture is fair. Management is my eyes is knowledgeable and fair but lacks person to person communication skills. Best part of my job hands down is the people I work with day in and day out. I've reached my potential at my current position and need to be challenged which I don't get much anymore. I'm looking for adventure a challenge and most importantly helping others and making people smile.
