I had a poor experience at Maple Leaf Disposal along with many others. The management is fragmented and listens EXCLUSIVELY to the Owner. The Owner does not visit and introduce himself so the fate of your employment lies in the hands of a person you may never meet and makes all the decisions. This sounds crazy I know but TRUST appears to be his biggest issue when it comes to Management Team. The Mgmt Team argues constantly and there is more name calling and labels applied to staff than ALL of the jobs I have had combined. They swear constantly and angry responses are more than tolerated. They are laughed at. I do not think there is ONE Manager there worth keeping. I believe the Owner should sell this business OR he should hire another person to aid in the development of this business. He is too RICH and too IMPORTANT to care about the unit. Just be cautious when applying to this employer. Make sure you ask a lot of questions because they DO NOT reveal any information willingly. In any case, I HOPE that they have changed and wish them luck.

it is a diverse enviroment of demands and need that needs to be solved everyday

When the trucks break down during the day and you have to transfer all the pick ups for the next day

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
get to the office, check what was done the day before, check whats need to be done that day, communicate with drivers, communicate with customers, solve problems, re arrange the schedule, receive and review working papers and receipt coming from the drivers, prepare next day paperwork for drivers,

Company seems to be going down hill. It's main concern is signing contracts and making money when it should be about customer service and looking after your employees(then the contracts and money come naturally). Sales team makes some customers sign 5 year contracts (fine print) when they only need a bin for a week this leads to chaotic and sometimes violent encounters when management tells you to return a bin the customer no longer needs or wants on their property. Very poor Management and dispatch. You get 1 route and it could be good or bad but you don't get to change. You could be doing easy runs of sawdust on the highway all day or you could be stuck in richmond running mouldy fish all day every day(this doesn't change)

Lots of extra work with no reward, the keep firing all the guys who can actually complete routes and bring in guys that do 1/3 of the route in 12 hours. I learned I am worth much more than how I was treated here. Management is an absolute joke, 4 Ops managers in 4 years… lol. The entire sales team has no idea what they are doing or where to place bins once sold to a customer… lol. Dispatch doesn’t know what they are doing either. Have to sequence your own routes cuz they can’t figure that out either…. Some guys doing 110 bins a day, some doing 40… LOL the actual job itself was fine…. This company is horrible. 

i have worked at maple leaf on and off for since 2001 and in almost all departments.  Toilets, roll-off, front-end, office, sales, and even some yard/shop stuff.  If you are willing to work they treat you well.  the pay is a little low-end, but you need to push for more.  if you show up to work and put in a decent effort then you will be treated as such, if you expect them to go out of their way and you are not willing to go out of your way, then move on.

Maple Leaf was a fast paced environment and I made some lasting connections. I had a very diverse job that suited me well. Most of the people that worked there were good people. Management was sometimes difficult to deal with but the company was undergoing a transition and that can make sometimes demanding situations. I enjoyed the fast pace and helping customers.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It was local  and the people were polite. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Little to no training and management couldn’t give direction in a timely manner. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Decent but at times, high level of stress due to deadlines.

Too bad they are so messed up there. The past owner was running the place for the new owner, was selling off equipment and other assets. Was purchasing unneeded items. Theft was rampant so they put in a camera, saw the guy but did nothing. Just said he didn't know!! Know What?? That there was a camera? Or that theft was wrong?? Crazy!

This company is very toxic.. managers speak down to you and dont make you feel needed or appreciated. There was no training and have to figure the job out on your own. No communication anywhere within this company. Will make you pay out of pocket for work related things and not reimburse you. 

Well, you have people who have never been in a truck in there lives trying to give calls that are so far from your route, if you don't stand your ground you'll never complete your day. Unbelievably unorganized and an uncouth trashy atmosphere.
