Marble Slab Creamery

Marble Slab taught me to always be ready for anything; Every day holds something different. 
A typical day could mean rolling fresh waffle cones, making fresh batches of ice cream (which go into pans, cakes, and litre tubs), decorating cakes, making back-up products, cleaning, and serving customers. At first many of these tasks include constantly checking recipe and instruction sheets. 
As a manager who has been with the company for years I have knowledge and experience in all aspects of the company. This allows me to comfortably and confidently lead my team. The employees I manage are mainly high school and university students, so I strive to make it a fun, welcoming work environment while also ensuring corporate standards are met and customers are satisfied. 
In the competitive ice cream market, with shops like Dairy Queen constantly adding new products to their menu, Marble Slab has had to create and change our products as well. This is what I find to be one of the most enjoyable parts of my job: learning and tweaking production techniques to ensure we are doing things in the most logical, timely way possible.

The environment is very team based. We work together as a team and solve problems by getting team input!

The onsite manager works with staff. 
As well the owner cares about staff and makes herself available for staff to contact her as another layer of support. 

The more I put into this job, the more opportunities I received (advancement to different roles, increase in pay).

There is also a tip program which boosts pay - so the better service we provided as a team provide, the more tips we earn!

During the spring & fall, sometimes shifts get cancelled, this is because work is weather dependent. Being a closer or cocloser are shifts always needed so it makes sense to train yourself to these positions.

I graduated from University and moved away. I stay in contact with the owner. She is a great mentor for me.


For a first job Marble Slab is a great start. My coworkers were great people and many ended up being good friends. Management was okay, they were kind people, but their security and safety planning was faulty. I worked winters with alone with very minimal security and no emergency planning. I have been put in dangerous situations countless times due to lack of any sort of safety measures for employees. No back door, no panic button, security being available for only half of my shift. Plus, winters in an ice cream shop mean slow hours. Great for students, not great for anyone who gets bored, and great for anyone looking to harass a lone female employee. However, summers are fun, but can be stressful and hard on the body due to long, looong lines of people. Tips are very much a bonus for summer lines. Not a bad job, not the best either. 

It’s quite a laid back job. The staff is very friendly and easy to work with. There is no trainer so you just have to learn from other staff as you go along. During a normal shift the work consists of cleaning, serving customers, making shelf products for the front, refilling items, and checking out customers at the till. Management isn’t amazing. The manager at where I worked struggled to message back and isn’t consistent at properly putting days off into the schedule for employees. My biggest downfall when working there was there were no tips available because the manager stopped setting up the tip option on the machine which was quite frustrating for all of the employees since we did have them for a while and it made quite a difference in our paychecks.

By all means working at an ice cream store should be great. But it is anything but at this store. Management/Owners do not care about you. You are on call and required to come in regardless of your plans. If you are scheduled to work at 1, and are called to come in at 10, then you will be there at 10 until the end of your scheduled shift. The boss will ask you to spy on your co-workers and undermine the supervisors while doing so. Very clear that upper management in the company doesn't care about its employees and the work culture as despite seeing them in the store a few times, no one was ever asked if they like the job and are being treated well. If you share anything about your personal life it will be used against you. Do not work here.

First off, I worked at an extremely busy location during Summer/Christmas time.

The managers and owners are flexible with your scheduling as long as you had valid reasons for never being able to work certain days or times, they always accommodated my schedule requests during my school year and even during summer again, as long as you requested time in advance.

The hours are solid with an average of 15~20 hours a week depending on your desire.

The salary is bare bones minimum wage but includes tips.

The work does get monotonous and boring, but that is remedied by your coworkers.

Overall I would recommend this place to someone looking for their first job or has a strange work schedule.

Fast pace environment with many tasks, such as cleaning, making cones, cakes, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream, and cupcakes. Greeting customers with a positive and welcoming attitude, and serving customers to their desires. Although it is a struggle to get past rushes, but with patience, it goes by fast. Management is excellent and organized with schedules. I've learned to make ice cream and such, and I've learned a lot about customer service, and keeping the work area clean and organized. Co-workers and I will change shifts and cover for each other when needed. Most enjoyable part of the job is probably the ice cream.

Multiple rounds of employees were fired within the first two months of opening, simply for being mediocre (while being paid minimum wage and receiving mediocre training). Some employees were also fired for using their phones during a 5-minute bathroom break or for having them on their person during their shift. You were expected to constantly be doing something, even when there was nothing left to do because you had already cleaned all of the obscure places you could think of and done a full inventory and refilled everything possible. Overall, not worth the stress. 

I love working at Marble Slab Creamery specially doing morning shifts because then I get time to check what all needs to be made to get things going. Less customers during morning so I get ample time for doing production. Another thing I like is the freedom I get because that gives me more space to do what I want to do leading to giving more output. My boss/employer is really good at that. I really learned to work fast and to work without supervision. Sometimes its really stressful when there is so much to do but I have very less time as I dn't like the work to be piled up. But all in all its fun and best place to work at :)

I spent a few years working here and in the beginning they are very kind to the staff but after a while they expect you to know and be able to do just as much as someone who has done it for years. They are very rude when you approach them when needing time off even if it is because you’re sick they have made people work even when puking during their shift. The staff environment is always friendly you make good connections with the staff when the owners aren’t watching you on the cameras and calling you to say stop talking. Please don’t work here if you can’t handle being yelled at or just being treated like a horse
