I am thrilled to write an outstanding review for Mareas Therapeutic Services. The passion and dedication of the two women who run this company are evident in their day-to-day interactions and their commitment to the children, families, and staff. As a specialized support worker, I am extremely happy with my job and the overall experience of working for Mareas.

Mareas Therapeutic Services provides 1 to 1 support and behavior support to families and children, and I feel a strong sense of purpose in my work. The company values the work we do and provides fair compensation for our efforts. While I do not receive mileage reimbursement, I believe I am still fairly compensated with my hourly wage, which is higher than what I would earn at other jobs. Additionally, I do not have to drive too far, so I come out ahead in terms of compensation.

What sets Mareas Therapeutic Services apart from other organizations is the people who work here. I am grateful for the support and encouragement I receive from my managers and feel that my efforts are appreciated. I trust the people I work with, and both managers have been supportive and instrumental in helping me succeed. The work environment is inclusive and respectful, making interactions with the team enjoyable. The company provides the time and location flexibility that I need to balance work and personal responsibilities.

Most of my work tasks leave me feeling energized, and I am achieving most of my goals at work. Mareas Therapeutic Services encourages professional growth by offering training opportunities, such as first aid/cpr training, and other professional training opportunities that positively impact my job. I appreciate that the company is open to reimbursing for professional learning opportunities, and all I had to do was ask.

If you are looking for a job where you can make a positive impact on children's lives, I highly recommend Mareas Therapeutic Services. It is a fantastic company to work for. Respect goes two ways, and as long as you maintain open, respectful, and honest communication with colleagues and management, this is the place for you.

The job itself could be great if they restructured how they run these programs. You independently  work with the children/youth to support them for a few hours, depending on the contract, the hours may vary. 

The management team did give some great training initially and did go over each contract with you which I thought was great. Although, personally I feel there should have been a designated "trainer" or individual from management who would go with you to the first shift of every contract. There were times when I would show up to houses with poor living conditions or individuals would be there that were not expected to be. It would have been much more comfortable being able to do the initial visit with a partner. 

A huge downside is that they DO NOT pay for gas and you are expected to drive everywhere with these kids, often between cities as their main office is in St. Catharines. I think I would have stayed with this job much longer if I wasn't spending what I made on the gas I was using to work. 

You also get paid monthly which is extremely difficult to manage. They can also cancel your shifts within 24 hours of the shift if the family calls to cancel. You do not get paid for the shift unless the cancellation is very last minute.

Overall this job has the potential to be really great but unfortunately there are too many cons

Mareas is a great company to work for if you are creative, resourceful, well educated, and thrive working independently. Would be a great side/second job IMO.

Pros- kind/insightful/helpful management, sense of trust, independence, rewarding work, appreciative clients/foster parents, flexible schedule, well paid, enjoyable activities during shifts, compensation for mileage/meetings, spending time outdoors, two designated office spaces to utilize with crafts and games

Cons- short hours, limited resources, personal time spent planning and writing case notes, no peer interaction/support, lack of training, long travel with personal vehicle all over Niagara Region, constant use of community/public spaces, paid once a month (independent contractor), tax season difficulty, winter season can be highly limiting, work can sometimes feel more recreational than therapeutic 

I am an MSW doing direct practice therapy with people of all ages, but mostly children/youth. Mareas is a great place to work. They give you a lot of control of your own schedule so you can decide how many clients you see a day and when. The space is beautiful, comfortable, relaxing- everything you would want from a therapeutic environment. The owners/managers are very available and responsive and will listen to your input. There are always tons of supplies and resources on hand to expand your counselling activities/knowledge/practice and there is supervision available whenever you need it. The staff in general are passionate about their work. 

As a specialized support worker i worked mostly independently, though i was able to check in with my manager regularly. We would work together to plan strategies and activities to help my clients reach their goals. Very rewarding when you can see the changes you helped create. 
Mareas made sure i had all the important info i needed and that i felt confident going in to work with the clients.

As an independent contractor I make my own hours around my current school commitments.
- I learned a lot in training about Trauma & how to interact with kids & youth who have experienced trauma.
- I have always felt that if I needed directions with a client I could connect with someone on the team.
- I enjoy connecting with the teens especially & showing them a different path. 

As an independent contractor I am able to create my own schedule around my other commitments.
I appreciate that they take the time to match my skills and interests with clients.
I can attend all their trainings for free. I love seeing the impact and results when I am working with families.

- I love feeling that I am a part of a bigger picture in supporting families & Kids
- The hardest part of the job is watching the current situations that families and kids are facing. 

Mareas truly cares about their clients and their employees. The managers are so accommodating and are always kind and respectful. Being able to manage your own contracts makes it easy to work around your schedule if you're a student, have kids, etc. I would highly recommend.
